Well obviously anyone with the know how on how to actually hot wire a car like this would know that you can easily remove the plate on the bottom part of the wheel and remove the locking mechanism and pin plate to unlock the wheel and keep it from locking. but i like how he left that off the video so that he wasnt actually teaching ppl how to steal a car
Well it's a useful thing to know, you never know when you might have to steal a car in an emergency situation. You should always have your emergency car theft kit with you, that includes an assortment of sockets, screws and jumper cables and most important is to keep your electric impact gun charged up so you can take apart the screws with ease!
As someone who's had to move cars without keys more than a few times, I know it's possible to hotwire a car quickly, though the problem comes with breaking the steering lock if you don't have access to the lock mechanism through the steering column. If you do, it's easy to start the car and drive away. I've done it both ways. Basically anything older than 96 can be vulnerable depending on the make.
@@franciscaramirez2342 Showing how to hotwire one kind of car is not going to help anyone. If you really want to learn, look up videos on replacing the ignition switch on various models, and do some self education on the ignition system wiring on older cars. Modern vehicles with key fobs and chips in the key are immune to the methods because the computer won't fire the spark plugs, but older cars are pretty easy when you actually put in the effort to learn how the car sends power and signal to the starter.
omg. why dont prisoners that escape prison try to hotwire a car? just go to a car dealership and lease a new car. surely their credit score cant be THAT bad.
@@eldafint the tank isn't filled all the way so they wouldn't get very far. but they could always ditch the car when the tank empties and find a different way to escape
Hmmm. Well were I come from they would just hammer a large screwdriver into the ignition and use a wrench to turn it. car started. Newer cars with imobilisers of course wont work like this or in the vid.
That's how GM trucks up to at least '06 are being stolen. The "security" that is in those trucks is a joke, it's all built into the ignition cylinder and as long as the cylinder is turned the trucks start. I think GM had been watching to many movies before coming up with that system... I'm not sure how they are stealing the '07+, since there's an extra layer of securty in them, but somehow they are getting around them.
+Stealing Valor I drive a 91 mazda and someone did exactly that to me just the other day. Fortunately, they failed to actually steal the car because the battery was dead. A need to learn about ignition systems in order to get it started is actually why I came here. Anyways, point is that it will work with at least some early 90s cars as well.
Oh yeah... the wheel lock lol. even my 1993 Escort actually required you to insert the proper key in order to disengage the wheel lock lol. I remember fiddling with it when I needed a new ignition switch.
Richard Phillips I heard that was true for American Escorts as well and my buddy said a neighbor used one to open my car door when I was away once. Luckily I kept nothing valuable in my car. Still couldn't start it though because the door key was separate from the ignition key.
old cars were easy. if you were even halfway hefty you could just snap the steering lock straight off by truning the wheel with brute force, lighter weight guys would just force a bit of tube down over the barrel and snap it off so you could turn the switch without needing a key. These days most thieves just break into the house and steal the car keys, it's easier.

Thanks for your time, buddy. I appreciate this, it's a great learning tool, and you deserve a beer for this \m/
As it turns out, the wheel-lock is a joke: just grab a magnet and stick it to the lock to unlock it. Small note: You need a relatively strong magnet and I'm not sure whether it works on all cars.
Matt's Garage - TakeiT most GM columns 80's ish and newer have the locking plate behind the steering wheel. I have seen people get past these by bringing a whole other column and swap them out. If you know what you are doing its under 5 mins easy.
Buddy of mine bought an 87 trans am a few months ago for the engine, the key was broken so thats what we did to move it, no locking plates or anything on that one. Then to steer he did a burnout while I pushed the rear (bought it off the shop beside us, gravel lot)
Going to be a whole lot of upset amature car theifs if they use this video when they discover almost all cars made since the late 90s have some sort of immobiliser.
There's also a thing called an immobiliser which is specifically designed to stop what he did in the video from working, usually by using an electronic system to wirelessly check for a specially coded chip inside the key. Depending on the make/model ect it will either wait for a set time before disabling the engine or simply not allow the engine to start if it does not see the key.
I want to see a speedrun, where you have the things you need and see how fast you can hot wire it, drive it around a parking lot and park in the same spot.
glad you mentioned newer cars because without my keys the car can't be hot wired and I totally forgot about wheel lock since I never use it(never really park on hills)
Modern cars since as far back as 2003 or earlier have immobilizers so if you happen to hot wire it, it'll crank the starter all day but no fuel will get released to injectors. A chip in the key must match the the car computer before fuel gets released to start.
I don't need to watch this video to know the answer is yes, some ignition locks are so bad it just takes a screwdriver to start the car, not my skill but I've see it done. And it is a skill.

Hot wiring a car, like in the movies, only works on cars manufactured before computers and steering locks.
I thought you were gona say only works on cars in the movies...lol
lol
Well, ya, only works in the movies alright. LOL
Awww maan thats no fun Larry, but thanks for sharing your knowledge.

actualy it works

I'm happy videos like this exist to crush my dreams of grand theft auto but replaces them with some cool technical information
On some older cars, bypassing the steering lock is real easy...
You brute force it, snap the locking pin and you can steer freely.
Modern cars since as far back as 2003 or earlier have immobilizers so if you happen to hot wire it, it'll crank the starter all day but no fuel will get released to injectors. A chip in the key must match the the car computer before fuel gets released to start.
thats why i loved to watch every video u had, because it was very informative...
Seems easier to just use a screwdriver in place of the key on an older car.
would it work for a 2002 windstar. has transponder key
@@JohnDoe-mp1zk if it has a chip you cannot break the ignition lock and use a screwdriver.
