We use Centramatic balance rings on our trucks. They are so much better than tire beads. Look into them Sam. They really work. Id actually love to see a video on them. Lol. Keep up the great entertaining content. I rarely comment but I felt I had to. Thanks

When I was with my fire department, we had the good years on the f550 mini pumper we ran. Rear was great, using them as steer tires was not. The mileage we put on the truck a year was less than 2k so it wasn't terrible but not great on front, rear was amazing. That truck rode like a tank either way. Good look and great functionality on them good years.
The Florida forest service uses them too, but not in front, can't remember what they have on the front for their rigs. Good purchase Sam, great trucks and love the content.

I have these exact tires on my 15k dump trailer and they are awesome! Been on for 2 years with tons of tread still and the trailer is use every day for landscaping and always loaded heavy with dirt, sod , demo debris etc.You will love them, they are very tough against punchers and wear like iron. Awesome video Sam

the dealer i bought my truck from put my winter steels on for me the first winter. i had to beat the back ones off with a sledge hammer in the spring, they'd rusted on. this fall i applied never seize on the steels before i put them on, this spring the backs literally fell off as i was taking the lug nuts off. made my life soooooo much easier.

do not run more then 80psi in the tires unless you change out the rims. we have problems cracking rims at 110 psi on standard steel trailer rims

I have those tires on my RV Hauler. Class 6 SuperCruzer. With the trailer on, drives are 11,000 lbs. Run 90 psi in the rears. Tried less but felt like it was moving around. They sing a little on some roads at 65 mph towing the rig. But never been stuck in sand or loose stuff , My steers are G647’s 245’s. X19.5 . Those tires when used on the drives just dig holes. The 622’s float real good and sit on top of soft stuff, Which is the reason I put the on instead of the 647’ RSS. Run 100 psi up front. See 110-115psi on the TPMS with 7880lbs on the steers. The rears are only carrying 2750 lbs each which is nothing, but felt like I needed the 90 psi. You’ll like them, all season with plenty of sipes in the tread.

Trailer tires is a good topic. I use 17.5 with 5/8 studs and for easy upgrade on 7k axles that run 16's the Boar Wheel Company has low profile 19.5 that match the stock 16" bolt pattern and tire dimension within half inch or so clearance.

On your 5500, if you don't already have them, it is recommended to use the nylon spacers between the steel and aluminum rims. It helps to reduce corrosion due to electrolysis between the two different metals. I had a similar issue with my fifth-wheel camper tires, they had 8ply tires on it, but I upgraded to 10 ply on 15 inch rims. I have been looking for 16 inch rims for it so I can get heavier tires for it. The 10 ply are a improvement but they still want to lay over when turning. The trailer when loaded for a week long outing is just over 10000#, which makes me also question if the axles are even heavy duty enough. Great informative video. Keep up the good work.

I've gotten alot of good advice from you bud 👍 I'll be upgrading my tires on my 30foot flat deck gooseneck to 14ply now. My pickup looks great with Steeles but will be upgrading to alcoas in time 😎 Good idea with the tire pressure. I'll double check mine. As for tire brands I use nitro for summers and winters. Nitto Terra grapplers for summer and nitto exo grapplers for winter. Stay away from trail hog tires. They barely last 30,000km.

Years ago I bought a new 3000 pound small enclosed trailer and the first thing I did was to replace both tires with radial tires. Past experience bias ply tires would over heat and blow out if you didn't keep the air pressure up. Also adding electric brakes really made it fun to use.

I keep two dump trailers going for a tree service and only three years old, 0ne has a whole new tubing 10 ga floor and new weld on OEM suspension and axles and the other almost as much rebuild work. There is no future commercially hauling with those and CDL/big trailer equipment trailers is the way to go.

I have great luck with Cooper overall. Running first set of 20s similar to what you have in grandmas truck. I run trailers pretty much daily but only avg 14 k trailer 23000 pound total truck and trailer. 20s I have are amp all terrains have 25000 on them rated to go 65000 have way more than half tread left and they have worn very even. I have ran then mostly in Texas but made one trip to Tennessee and back. You are right about the trailer ties have the 14 plus ply on gooseneck best tire ever. Ordered on trailer extra 125$ each (Lamar) brand trailer. Which has been great. Just put 14 ply on our dump trailer it came with junk. Great improvement also. Have learned a lot from your videos. I bought the Milwaukee impact because of this one in fact.

I agree!! I just got rid of my 10 ply tires on 7x14’ sure trac dump trailer. Went with 16 ply. Got tired of blowouts and nails getting in easy. Only 8 month old trailer. Spending thousands of trailer should have 14 ply tires standard!

Toyo m608z is a good tire that I put on my 5500 ram. I also went up a size to 245 70 19.5 and they have a 16 ply tire. I reality with the 16 ply tire my ram 5500 went up to a ford 600 with the tire upgrade. That's all ford did to get to the f 600. I also agree with your tires on the dump trailer, I put on the 14 ply and it was a night and day difference. Good luck and stay safe.👍👍

I wish a diamond c dealer was closer I need a dump soon so I’m going with a local dealer that sells cam super line. For mostly hauling fire wood being towed by my f150 the 6x10 will be plenty strong enough for me. I’ll have to remember when I go to buy another big trailer to opt for the 14 plys. Thanks.

I run those good years on the back of my semi and they work pretty good also we run them on our tow trucks they kind of skied around until they harden up but other than that they're pretty good. We've always changed our own 19 fives all we do is put two bags of weights beads inside.

As a tire technician, I'd recommend looking at coats or preferably hunter for tire machines. They are great and simple to use!
Check around with local tire shops to see if they are about to update their equipment. I know that some Discount Tire/America's Tire locations will sell their old equipment when new stuff comes in, might be able to get something for a good price.

Hi Sam. You were asking about pnumatic tire changers. Don't know anything about them. However, I did just see an ad for Kentools. They make all the support hand tools for tire changing. Even for heavy duty tires. If you like tools they do seem to have nice stuff.

I did that several years ago. Loved it until the centers started breaking out of the wheels. The stiff sidewalls don't flex as much so the wheels have to take the hit. Over the road it's great. For short runs and lots of turning the 10 ply seem to work the best. That's my experience.

another great video Sam, yeah it never pays to cheap out on tires, whatever i own/drive i will pay extra to get better quality ,mileage and warranty passenger or truck tires it just safer and makes sense, last set i bought were Michelins and they give 3mpg's better than the last set and ride quieter and better, for a used tire changing machine a shop i worked at awhile back had a Coats 40-40 and it did up to 19" rims and max tire diameter of 38" and was one robust machine and that same shop still has it as a backup machine in case the new fancy one goes down and needs to be serviced, the new ones are easier on the employees back when doing truck tires or those off road tires, don't know how much a used one is i just know that 40-40 sure did the job and always seem to be reliable 👍

I thought my 14 ply were good until I put on the 16 ply this winter. Do not get even warm on the highway. The tire shop that mounted them had to resort to the six foot manual bars. Stalled out three different tire machines. Did you get the all steel version? Higher rated. My 14 ply were 4400 pounds per tire at 110 psi the 16 ply are 4540 pounds per tire at 120 psi. Love those balance beads. The rear tires really wear when you tow heavy. They got to do a lot of pavement grabbing. Every revolution the tires are trying to get traction on a new surface. So a tiny bit of slip occurs on the tires. Gravel well they are really slipping a lot. I do not have Ford Wheel Drive and my rears wear about twice as fast as the fronts. I loved the Nitto Terra Grappler in load range 126. They quit making it. I have a set of Dura Grapplers on now at load range 126. Good pavement traction in all conditions but not worth a crap in any sort of mud. I am following the Kanati Armor Hog reviews as that could be my next tire at a load rating of 129. I don't give a rats patootie about wear. If they cannot carry the load properly they are useless.

I run a Brownell 10 ton hydraulic boat trailer (~8,000 empty, 28,000 max loaded) behind an F-450 short wheelbase chassis cab. Pair of 12k Dexter stub axles on custom airbag swingarms. Running 235/75/17.5 Hercules Strong Guard HRA..... J rated.... 6,008 single on Alcoa rims. They hold up pretty well considering the abuse (multiple daily dips in salt water and stupid hard turns) I put them through and the bad camber issue from the manufacturer failing to pre-camber the axles. I have to flip them on the rims to get full life.

The tires are rated to haul x amount of weight at the max tire pressure on the side wall. Running low air pressure creates unnecessary heat on the tires which is a tires enemy and will cause them to blow. At 90psi that's 80% less air than what the tire is rated for. So you turned your 4,000 pound rated tires into 3,600 pound tires by reducing tire psi. Sure the tires is still capable of hauling 14,400 pounds at that pressure which is over max on 7k axles. Running lower air pressure is simply weakening the sidewall of your new tires which is what holds the weight to help reduce side wall flex/roll.

@@VBELTandSON I'm a firm believer in the tire manufacturer knows best since they developed and rated the tire. As another fella mentioned rim's is designed for certain max psi also.
You want rough when light or empty. I run 120psi in 16ply steers and 115psi in my drives, not sure what ply my drive tires is, prolly 14. We run the 16's on the steers since they can carry right around 13,000 pounds.

The Big Tex trailers come with Good Ride tires...AKA "Blow Ride". At around 30K they start separating. They are 10 ply load range E tires that say they are good for 3520 Lbs. single, but obviously that's over rated. I put Hercules 901's rated for 3750 Lbs. Haven't put that many miles on them yet so the jury is still out on that.

Not cheap...Northern Tool has some that run about $1,979. Tuxedo Semi-Automatic Swing-Arm Tire Changer - 37in.L x 48in.W x 41in.H, Model# TC-950 says it will do up to 47” tires and up to 15” wheels...don’t think it will be a cash cow for you as you mentioned.
But yeah I’ll be going to G rated tires next time for my dump, equipment, and or moving trailers...all dexter 7k axles...that’s a lot of load with 14k in sand and 10k in logs without blowing a tire , My dump has a big old sticker saying 9,500 Max load on her and dumps are heavy as it is....I’ve also cooked several E-rated in the summer anytime I’ve gotten much over 70 when passing...and one shredded last time I went to the local land fill...sounds like the G rated tires are “G”
    Commented too early in...🤣😂🤣
I’ll be glad to see how the G rated tires do~Jon

Westlake are terrible from my experience on trailers they came on my 14k dump trailer, I didn’t upgrade right away because westlake was there upgrading 14ply so I figured I would try the 10ply to start needless to say I they made it about 5k before they started flaking and coming apart,. I run the Continental HDR on my dually with 20k on them now and not chipping or flaking but I’m in NC so I’m not dealing with super hot pavement like out west where you are, I can tell you that there’s a huge difference between them and the Cooper Rm253 that I started with on my 19.5’s. Vision hauler makes aluminum 19.5 that I have and you get 4 positive offset and 2 negative so I can rotate with out having to break the whole set down and remount and balance everything every rotation

Well .. ! It's actually good to see a person fit wheels correctly , one should always wire brush wheel mount/wheel studs and smear - not paint - never-seize/copperslip to prevent corrosion - trying to beat a wheel off with a sledge is not fun - hope you put some between the steel and alloy? or do you prefer removing twins as a pair ? .As for fitting and tyre pricing your side of the pond ,sheez rip off or what ! . As for mileage would have thought 30-40k was good for a pick-up/flatbed , if you can get more ... bonus . Been a while ,long while ,but last set of rears I accuired for my unit (4x2...295/80x22-5) I got about 100k kms before they needed a tread re-cut ,the fronts back then were about £180 fitted etc and i got over 100K kms , (fronts become spare drives when require a tread re-cut) I averaged 8-9k kms a month bout 100k a year bit low but hey .

Cinder blocks ? I thought they were made out of concrete. 70 years ago we put our cinders from the coal furnace on the driveway.

Don't tell Freightliner or Mack not to mix steel and aluminum wheels have worked for class dealers for 20+ years and it's common practice for the manufacture install in this manor. If it were and issue the drums would have to aluminum

I did the same on my 43 ft 5th wheel camper right when I bought it. I don't know why they put the cheapest 10 ply crap tires on them. I put 17.5's on my 40 ft flat deck equipment trailer when I got it. I don't play with cheap weak tires.

Anti-seize / Lube is ok but you need to reduce the lug torque ( check proper torque ) Lube makes it easier to reach bolt stretch ( this is what "tightens" the bolt ). This would be good but the gorilla at the tire shop OVER tightens and causes the bolt to stretch into the permanent deform region. A stretched / deformed thread will cause removal problems along with corrosion. Thanks

Hey Sam I have a to tell ya a story about my way to a job last week ! So I took this grading job in this remote but exclusive horse community not far about 50 miles from me . Customer says road is narrow and steep and I have to be escorted in because the trailer anyhow I headed in towing my TL10 enclosed with only a bucket I have the Factory counter weights on rear and two 5 gallon water fire extinguishers on back . I figure it weighs 11500# with my 25’ deck over Pintle that weighs 5800# includes binders etc .... any how I use my 6.7 2016 3500 crew long bed srw Aisin so I’m headed up this six mile Windy road and I’m using my push button shift to stay in right gear and I’m babying it watching my temps etc . Then this One steep hill with a hard right turn at bottom I missed the shift from 3rd to 1st and the hill almost stopped me then it went to first and I gave it gas and my tires started spinning and no more forward progress then my warning light started beeping saying trans hot !! was 217 and started sliding backwards as tires spin I hit the brakes of course as I stained my shorts lol !! I had to put it in 4x4 to get up the hill definitely woke me up lol .first time I ever had to use 4x4 on pavement I’ve been on many dirt roads in 4x4 but on pavement Was a first for Me !!! Mind you this narrow paved road has no shoulders with signs saying danger 1000 foot drop offs. Best part after three days of working they’re and jobs done customer wanted a discount umm NO ! Haha ever had to do that ?
