Rust in Peace, the whole album is awesome. One of my all time favs. That album inspired me to practice guitar like 6 hours a day when it came out, on top of playing in a band. Marty is pretty bad ass.
And yeah, they're American. One of the "big four" of American thrash metal with Metallica, Anthrax, and Slayer. They basically help put thrash on the map.
Edit: BTW, Dave Mustaine (singer, sole consistent member) is still to this day putting out Megadeth albums.

Fun Fact: Megadeth's lead singer (Dave Mustaine) was Metallica's original lead guitarist, but they fired him due to substance abuse just before they recorded their first album and replaced him with Kirk Hammett, Mustaine actually wrote all of Kirk's guitar parts on Metallica's first album Kill Em All. Holy Wars…The Punishment Due is widely regarded as one of the best Metal songs of all time. Megadeth’s music has an attitude or edge to it directly coming from Dave Mustaine. When he got kicked out of metallica just before metallica recorded their first album Dave Mustaine was determined to be the best and he’s had a chip on his shoulder for getting kicked out of metallica for quite a while, I love it cause it comes thru in the music his attitude and aggression…

The second half, "The Punishment Due", is about the Punisher comic book series.

After listening to a lot of material from both Megadeth and Metallica, I don't think it's fair to say that one band is better than the other. Both Megadeth and Metallica have their own styles. Your reaction to the guitar solo from Dave Mustaine had me laughing my head off. The album that this song is from "Rust In Peace" is the debut of what became known as the classic lineup of Megadeth involving the late Nick Menza on drums and Marty Friedman on lead guitar which lasted from 1990 until 1999.
Megadeth just celebrated it's 35th anniversary back in 2018. Megadeth is an American metal band that started in 1983 after Dave Mustaine got kicked out of Metallica and is one of the "Big Four" of American thrash metal with Anthrax, Metallica, and Slayer.

Yes, the first portion of the lyrics were inspired by the situation in Northern Ireland ( up until the Middle Eastern sounding solo). Megadeth were playing a concert and someone was selling bootleg t shirts. When confronted, the vendor said it was for " The Cause ", which is the Irish Republican Army. Dave drunkenly introduced a song during the show by saying " This is for the cause" which sparked a riot, and the band had to be evacuated from the country in a bullet proof bus.
The second part was inspired by The Punisher.

I played guitar at the time (still do). I got the sheet music for this song. I wasn't a great guitarist, but I was a bit of okay. But the sheet music looked like it was a misprint. I couldn't even comprehend how they made it sound like that even though I saw every note on the sheet. It was way above my pay grade. Next level stuff. I can play some of their stuff now, but honestly I would rather just listen to them play it. :) I saw them live on the Dystopia tour in 2016. They closed the concert with this song. After an entire set of brutal metal. And they crushed it. That solo was just as good live as you just heard in the video. Subscribed!

I slowly started to listen more and more of Megadeth and I came to the conclusion that I love Megadeth music way more ! It’s the technicality and catchy harmony of their songs. Not that Metallica doesn’t have them. But Megadeth has more of that complexity behind the music. Now my favorite band is Megadeth. Check out any song on the Rust in Peace album ! ( which is in my opinion the best thrash album of all time ) The solos !! Check out those Megadeth solos ! Metallica is not even close to them ! Megadeth is just amazing

The sick the dying and the dead is really good but if you want more like the one you watched there’s Hangar 18 (might be hanger I'm British and we spell words differently sometimes… because we can I guess) and if you just want crazy megadeth then you might wish to visit five magics… but then there’s so much to choose from both earlier and later. It’s a literal musical goldmine you’ve landed on here. Im biased as a fan but seriously.. . A lot of this you’re going to want to hear!

This solo by Dave Mustane(ex-Metallica pre Kirk Hammet) is awesome but Tornado of souls off this same album is another legendary solo especially among guitarists. That one is played by their second guitarist Marty Friedman.

32 years ago, I bought this album on cassette tape at Turtles Music. I unwrapped the cassette, put it in my car's FM/AM Cassette radio and started down a journey I could not have imagined at the time. I probably had that same look you, Lilly Jane, had during that last solo. Megadeth was not the first Thrash Metal band I listened too, that would be Anthrax "Among the Living", but the musicianship simply blew me away. I have been hooked on Megadeth ever since. This entire album, "Rust in Peace" is killer. Not a bad song on the album. "Peace Sells..." is my favorite Megadeth album. Not as technically good as "RiP" but more raw, just beating out both "RiP" and "Killing is My Business..." which is 35 minutes of pure manic.
For deep cuts, and there really aren't any on this album, listen to "Poison is the Cure" or "Take No Prisoner." The other songs are plays more often, which everyone love.

This song was written after Dave accidently started a massive fight in Northern Ireland during the "troubles" (essentially a civil war between protestants and catholics in the area, lots of people died) and had to finish the tour in an armored vehicle.

All our bigger metal acts are HUGE over seas, to this day. Megadeth very well could have inspired many bands from Europe, Asia, where ever, but specifically South America. South American audiences are insane!

The game Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock included this and 2 other songs that was a part of the game's Campaign or Quest mode as it was called in game, once you get to the final battle of the game, you play the 3 Megadeth songs that include in order; Holy Wars (1990), This Day We Fight! (2009) And the third and final song which is Dave's most difficult song that he had ever written prior to the setting and release of the game, he wrote Sudden Death (2010). I'd definitely listen to those 2 if you haven't already.

The cool bit: the singer is also a bloody incredible lead guitarist. In this song, the first two solos were played by their ‘primary’ lead guitarist at the time, an absolute genius called Marty Friedman; the last solo was played by the lead singer and rhythm guitarist, Dave Mustaine. Dave Mustaine was, back in 1982 and early ‘83, the original lead guitarist for Metallica. They put em out on his arse because he was a mean drunk and also did more or less every other drug he could get his hands on, which led to serious friction. His ‘revenge’ for being sacked from Metallica? Start a band that is heavier, faster, and is-in general-comprised of more virtuosic musicians. Megadeth tended-in the early days-to be the darker and more nihilistic of the two bands. Just like Metallica, however, their songs (all of whose lyrics were written by Mustaine), began to mellow out a little when Mustaine got sober (after, I believe, his 13th stint in rehab) and found religion.
He is STILL, however, a mad wicked guitar player and songwriter. He didn’t suddenly become a gospel singer or something; he’s just eased up on the whole ‘life is empty and meaningless; I stay alive out of spite’ thing.
This song came off their finest record, Rust In Peace. This was probably their best lineup. (The only original member still in Megadeth is Dave; he gives the impression of being difficult to work with.)
Other songs I would recommend (This
includes some deep cuts that’ll set you apart from the casual reactors, and bring you some subscribers that are more than just part-time fans):
    Lucretia
    The Conjuring
    Wake Up Dead
    In My Darkest Hour
    Tornado Of Souls
Hangar 18 (watch the live version from the ‘Rude Awakening’ live album to watch Dave and his lead guitarist trade riffs)
She-Wolf (also from the ‘Rude Awakening’, also featuring a wicked extended guitar solo and a drum solo)
    Ashes In Your Mouth
    My Last Words
I Thought I Knew It All
    A Tout Le Monde
    (Good Mourning) Black Friday
P.S. I strongly recommend that, when searching for these songs, you include the search term ‘original version’, because they’ve remixed and remastered all their albums about 12 times, and the ‘improved’ versions all sound shite.
P.P.S.: Love your reactions; you’ve got a lot of energy and a lot of attitude-the kind of personality that used to make for a fucking wicked rocker, back in the 90s before rock and metal became purely the purview of lone guitarists slaving away in their basement with a rack full of gear and Pro Tools, playing all the instruments themselves to record songs that maybe a couple hundred folks will hear-if they’re lucky. You would’ve loved it back when, instead, we all had bands, and if we didn’t have a venue to play, we’d play at high school or University parties, or we’d just put on a bonfire concert in the middle of a field at night, running our gear off a generator. Anyroad, hope this helps. Cheers…and keep digging for great music!
