      I've heard this song on many videos, but this channel uses it in every video I've seen, so I dub it the Scrap Wood City song.

    Very interesting - cool video. One minor suggestion to noobies wanting to copy- get yourself a "third hand" soldering workstation helper. Basically a few alligator clips on movable arms, but makes it so much easier to solder to the back of the pots as (around 11:20)

    • @Th12teen
      @Th12teen 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its called 'helping hands' and they used to be hard-ish to find, now you can them at Harbor Freight
      www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=helping+hands

    • @Zeupater
      @Zeupater 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Tioga Fretworks I've heard different nomenclature. So far they've all been fine, but personally I prefer "third hand." For me, at least, it's a bit more surreal, and so fitting for my way of communing with the universe.
      Also, Scrap Wood City, nice work! You took a short victory lap at the end, though the world now has one more unique, organic-sounding instrument. I found it to be not unheroic, and not lacking a certain quality suggesting adventure/s yet to come.
      I have accumulated a little selection of cigar boxes. Any suggestions for one who would like to begin to incorporate them into a similar project(s) would be appreciated.

    • @Zeupater
      @Zeupater 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please forgive. Just found such video which you have already produced, detailing said cigar box project. And as tomorrow (when I awake) will, most fortuitously, be a "Sunday at home" perhaps an opportunity to begin will present itself.

    This is so good that as an electronic tech I will not complain about the soldering, it works, that's all that matters.

      +Luís Felipe Dib thank you! Never said I teach anything! I just show how I made it, from that procedure someone might perhaps learn something or gets inspired! Really nice. I would recommend that you work on your soldering skills. Wires should be hooked and wrapped around posts to make a sound mechanical connection first. Solder is soft and wires can tear out of it. It shouldn't be used as an electrical connection, not a mechanical one. Other than that.... GREAT VIDEO.

    Aha! This is what you've been up to! Great job mate and really enjoyed this vid.
    Incidentally perspex or similar hard plastic will make a very acceptable nut on a home build stringed instrument - much easier to work than stainless steel (and maybe a bit safer too) ana easier to find lying around. You spent som time with the fret calculator - was it necessary for a slide guitar?
    Looking forward to your next brain-child!

    • @ScrapwoodCity
      @ScrapwoodCity  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark McCluney thank you very much! I liked the nut too. The frets positions are not necessary but it is nice to have a reference point on where you are in the fretboard. It helps you keep your playing in tune and learn the distances of your instrument. The fret calculator is very helpful because it helps you make instruments in any scale you like.

    Why are the dots on the frets placed on the line and not on the spaces?

    • @ScrapwoodCity
      @ScrapwoodCity  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rainday Bow because this instrument is played with a slide on the finger. When you play slide guitar you play over the fret and not in between. The lines and the dots help you play in tune. This guitar is actually fretless! I hope I helped! Thanks for watching and commenting!
