I was just about to comment the same thing haha. Conspiracy. Theres a similar one with a 2v2 smash bros melee tournament where all 3 glasses wearers did a hair flip then pushed glasses up in perfect sync haha
it's amazing how much of a difference knowing what the next piece makes. they mentioned that the high score earlier was only 30,000 or so. insane when most of these guys can max out playing normally.
Not knowing the next piece in NEStris is a huge issue as you pointed out, even bigger than in other Tetris games. In order to get a piece's DAS going as soon as it spawns you have to hold the direction way before so DAS is charged properly. Here you have to a) react to the piece and b) charge sufficient DAS before the piece hits the ground compared to normal play where this is not such an issue.
That's because the controls are horrible on NES Tetris, and the pieces fall very quickly. If they could just control the speed of the pieces (well, big cheat), they'd probably do like 500k.
Also, in order to make use of DAS in a competitive setting, you literally have to know which direction you're moving the piece before it starts dropping. So the DASers actually stood even less chance against the hypertappers than usual. Koryan--err, sorry, Kauser--looked comfortable because he probably engaged in this type of challenge in the past. Joseph also did exponentially better than most even though he was frankly quite new to tetris in general at this point in his career. But a DASer on level 18 without knowledge of piece movement would... quite naturally fail. Even Jonas himself should have lost 10 games out of 10 against Koryan in this particular format (whereas generally speaking, you'd expect him to be competitive with Koryan).
the way these guys are playing no next tetris is literally how it looked like when all of us competed in a Tetris Battle Gaiden tournament for Super Famicom at Retro City Fest, literally all of us never played this version before and it was hilarious.
Something that a lot of people don't realize is that the hardest part of bastet (bastard tetris) isn't the piece assignment algorithm, but simply the fact that you don't know your next piece. If the algorithm was deterministic and always sent you the "worst piece" it'd actually be more possible to cheese it, but because it has like a 20% chance of giving you just a random piece, you can't build around that strategy for long. Making good builds is way easier when you see one piece ahead (and for certain tetris variants that let you see even farther ahead, they're downright trivialized by top players). Of course, the evil piece assignment algorithm of bastet does certainly make it even *more* difficult.
Bad commenting. At least tell people they have won instead of droning on. Also how can you only say "great tuck" at 3:25 when he is clearly dying. Maybe mention it.
@@Fedogreen yes. I know a real good player can get a lot more but I haven't seen such a score yet. I just saw two 350K records from Ben Mullen starting at level 9.

d4nin3u that’s why the hypertappers did so well, they had an even bigger advantage over das
Even the commentator isn't immune to how similar Kauser looks like to Koryan.
they probable relatives.
The commentator probably doesn't even play Tetris or properly know what Koryan looks like though. Just here for the sick commentator paychecks ;)

This is a true lesson on playing tetris. They play just like noobies. That means noobs play bad because they don't use info about Next Piece
Spot on
As a noob I can confirm this is true 😔

I thought Hauser retired? He obviously just changed his name slightly and became Asian.

His glasses batteries died last match. He was going in blind this game.

Is kauser actually koryan? I could believe it but they keep correcting themselves and saying kauser, so confused
How do they disable next box on the NES version
You press a button when in game. I don't know what it is on console, I press shift on emulator.
Select disables the next box on both NES and GB versions. (I kinda wish there was more competitive play using the GB version, actually...)

Bc the game is over so fast, they should do double elimination tournament next time. Any reason for more Tetris is always a plus in my book.:-D
7:04 Koryan?
This was before the 2018 world championships
where ? Jonas
honestly so strange how all their skill goes down the shitter when they cant see the next piece.
Since I saw the first video I tried it and I got a tetris, I guess I got very lucky!
the underdog yes
Just forget about tetris in this mode. Just keep it as close to the bottom as you can.
