  • In Game Four of the 1987 World Series, the Cardinals roughed up Frank Viola in his second start of the series, as the lefty surrendered five runs in 3-1/3 innings. The game is perhaps best remembered for Tom Lawless' three-run HR in the fourth inning (and subsequent bat flip) -- one of just two home runs in Lawless' major league career -- but also features the series' lone appearance of 43-year old Joe Niekro in relief of Viola.

Hot take: Al Michaels was a better baseball announcer than football announcer.

Jose Oquendo diving for that flyball at 22:50 looked like a body thrown out of a car...WOW... LOL!

I respect the Cardinals organization, and I also realize this was the 80's, but good lord, could Busch Stadium look any more dark and drab? It appears they only have two sets of lights on the entire field, and the stands are completely dark. And yet, I'm still watching this entire 3 hour game, haha

These games are gems to watch regardless of the not particularly close scores and the dank, drab atmosphere, if only to hear the banter of Michaels, McCarver, and Palmer. Individually they may all have people who beat them. Even Michaels isn’t Vin Scully, for example. But as a team, it doesn’t get any better than this. The chemistry they have with each other, the pure unadulterated fun they’re clearly having calling these games is just so refreshing and enjoyable to listen to.

It did look dark. I think that was just the video quality of these old broadcasts

Twins feeble away from the winds of the Metrodome, and again in 1991

To this day I’m still shocked that actually happened for a guy who hit .080 during the regular season.

The Lawless bat flip and HR stare, then the trot. LOL!! After hitting only one previous HR ever and having a 0.80 batting average. I bet he still talks about that one HR he hit in the WS!

Too bad my Cardinals had all their best players injured for this series. Great WS though.

The better team, did NOT win this series, 100% guaranteed. Just like in 2001, when the loser D'backs "beat" the much better Yankees, by a run, in Game 7, the Twins beat the superior St. Louis Cardinals, in this series. The Twins homefield advantage was absolutely ridiculous. Actually, unfair. The St. Louis Cardinals, were the greatest team in baseball, in 1987, just like they were in 1985, when they got totally screwed by that dirty, first base ump, in the 9th inning. The Yankees, are, and will forever be, the greatest franchise, in professional sports history, but the Cardinals, absolutely, deserve, two more World Series Championships, to their credit. 1985, and 1987. The St. Louis Cardinals, were the team of the decade, of the 80s, no doubt whatsoever. Screw the Dodgers.

No. I Am A Saint Louis Cardinals Fan.
Maybe 🤔 I Could Understand The Saint Louis Cardinals Getting Screwed In The 1985 World Series 🏆🚫🥺😢
But Unfortunately For The Saint Louis Cardinals In The 1987 World Series The Pitching Of The Minnesota Twins Was A Little Better Than The Pitching Of The Saint Louis Cardinals.
You Do Not 🚫 Give Up 18 Runs In The First 2 Games , 13 Total Runs In The 4th Inning Alone , And Expect To Win 🏆 A World Series Title.🏆🚫
