Great video today. Really appreciated the historical survey. Makes me want to get the book and read through to find out more about my tradition. I've spent time in other traditions here in Australia, but for the last 6 years I've returned 'home' to my baptist roots. I found the comments on the general and particular baptist insightful. I identify with the particular (so 1689 ...I've loved studying this myself along with the Westminster confession). And I would say that here in Oz even in the congregation where I worship, there is a mix of general and particular...I would say that the general (more arminian like) is the majority though.
@@jasonbourne5142 why do you say that? Do you just like to pot shots at people and run. You have given no reason for the comment. All I can assume is that you dont agree with my view. It is fine to disagree, but you have not given an argument, just an assertion.
@@friendlyolbumclearly he has already heard your sales pitch from Catholicism since you guys tend to be cookie cutter Christianity. Just respect his sovereign choice to be baptist and trust God’s sovereignty.
Praise God for the truth of the Early Church, it still stands today despite people from within and outside of it that try to destroy it. It’s a miracle that the Apostolic Catholic Church is still standing .
I am from a Catholic family, but surprisingly my parents enrolled me in a Baptist Academy and that is where I finished elementary school. I even got baptised there(second time) though it was superfluous. I went back to the Catholic Church, and now I will remain a Catholic. Just trying to fulfill what I vowed during Confirmation. I learned a lot in that school about Jesus and the Bible and for that I am thankful. My mother in some way does regret that I went to that school. Though past is past, and I believe God was forming me in that school.
@xtraordinairartist9469 That's a lie . The Roman catholic church did not write the new testament that's a blatant lie. The rcc didn't come until 300 years later and then only persecuted the original church and murdered millions of Christian men , women and children along with bringing into the church pagan practices . This is the true history that the rcc tried to rewrite.
Me and my house are Baptist Fundamentalist... Your Explanation confuses me... Being a Baptist are just people who repented, and Accepted Christ as their Personal Saviour... We are not CALVINISTS... We only do one thing as Baptist... SOULWINNING... The KJV Bible is also the WORD OF GOD...
I have an interest in the origins of phrases (eg. Invite Jesus into your heart...), practices (eg. altar call) and beliefs (eg. Once saved always saved), etc. If you have any research knowledge of such topics, I'd love to hear what you've found. I'm always looking for additional details, especially dates and names. Thanks.
@@billlee2194 I don't know, I am muslim, but I'm sure most baptist pastors would have no problem explaining the origins of those concepts, have a blessed day
@@myotheraccountissuspended921 I hope I am wrong but I would be surprised if any of them would have that information. If seems what I hear or read is merely them asserting such ideas or slogans. For example 'have you invited Jesus to be your personal Lord and Savior'? As much as I have been able to find, this particular slogan question arose from the Great Awakenings of the 18th & 19 centuries. It was possibly an outgrow and evolution of the Puritan movement after that group lost membership in the Church of England and it's ecclesial authority and sacraments. They turned inward in search o 'signs' that would show that they are among the elect. My understanding is the 1st Awakening theorized that such an approach was workable. The 2nd Awakenings the means were introduced which included the anxious bench and altar call. From there such slogan/questions as I cited arose. At least that's my understanding. One interesting thing about modern Protestant Christianity, especially in the more fundamental branches, is a lack of knowledge that their Reformers of the 16th C. would be considered Catholic by most of those congregations. That's because the Reformers practiced authoritative church polity and authority through the Sacraments believing those Sacraments to be normatively necessary for salvation and they had a strong veneration of Mary. That while today's Protestants I mentioned have separated salvation from the Sacraments and they tend to have a distain for Mary, which, of course, I understand the Muslim position on Mary is much closer to the Catholic view at least in honor. God bless
When we consider that in a time where Christianity was a new religion and believer’s Baptism (Credobaptism) naturally looked like it was the predominant view of baptism in the Church, I find it to be a bit dishonest to categorize that as the “ancient” practice or “normative” practice, given the development of the Church’s religiosity. In other words, when virtually no one has ever heard the Gospel, OBVIOUSLY most of Christianity will be consenting believers desiring to be Baptized. That says absolutely nothing about the Apostolic theology around Baptism. All it says is Christianity was a new religion. I just think it’s kind of telling that there’s not a single passage in the entire Bible that describes Holy Baptism as anything like an “outward expression of an inward change.” I think that should tell us something is a bit off with how Baptists assume Biblical Soteriology works. There’s plenty of Scriptural evidence that we are JUSTIFIED by believing and having faith, but there’s virtually ZERO Scriptural evidence that we are actually REGENERATED by believing and having faith. That’s God’s work. That’s the Holy Spirit’s work through the Means of Grace: Word and Sacrament. Historically, Baptists have always falsely equated justification with regeneration and, personal-experience talking, it causes a lot of confusion in the long-run.
Baptism was a regular practice in ancient Israel prior to Christ’s appearance so wouldn’t believer’s baptism just be a continuation or extension of that practice?
@@emf49 No, because the Baptism of John is not the same thing as the Baptism of Jesus. They’re two different rituals that serve two different covenants. John admitted in all the Synoptics that they’d differ and St. Paul even clarified that they’re two different types of baptism (e.g. Ac. 19:1-7). Baptist theology just can’t get past John the Baptist on this issue.
1 peter 3:21 "and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also-not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ," this verse clearly says baptism (water) is a symbol of what saves us, (the baptism with the Holy Spirit in regeneration) so in effect is an "outward expression of an inward change". John the Baptist said " 'I baptize you with water. But one more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. " this is why Baptists see John as they do, because he clearly stated another baptism was coming and it was not a baptism of water that would save. as for being regenerated by believing romans 10 says "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." a dead man cannot know he is "justified" unless he has been made alive (regenerated). yes we believe the Word is a "means" to get people to Jesus, but unless they actually believe, the gospel is just words. the reading and preaching does not "regenerate" or else everybody who hears it will be saved. you must hear the Word, accept it as true, which means you have put ur faith in Christ. no church or sacrament has ever saved anyone. Jesus alone saves. He can save anybody, anywhere, at anytime. a person who is alone on a deserted island can be saved as easily as a person in the grandest cathedral taking communion everyday.
@@caman171, Okay…let’s deal with the first text you used here. I suspect you are not reading St. Peter’s FULL statement here. Read verses 18-22 as a whole. It does not imply at all what you are saying it does. Also, it’s the NIV, among other mainline translations, which very uniquely translates ἀντίτυπον as “symbolizes.” Though even with that, your assertion here still remains unsupported. The term basically means “anti-type” in distinction from “type.” Peter is setting Holy Baptism up as the “anti-type” of an Old Testament “type” which would foreshadow the Sacrament: the Noachian flood. Therefore, Baptism is a fulfillment of the flood, not the exact same thing as the flood; a key principle of exegesis is that the New Testament “anti-type” is ALWAYS greater than the Old Testament “type.” So in context, no…1 Peter 3:21, the text which literally and bluntly states that “Baptism now saves you,” does not at all say that Baptism symbolizes something else. Rather, Baptism has a direct connection to the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as the text says it does…and as St. Paul also says it does in Romans 6:1-7. How can Baptism, a mere expression of repentance from Essene Judaism that John the Baptizer put into practice as a way of paving the way for Jesus, “now save you”? Simple: “through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.”
@@its_just_marvlus you're correct that it started with Satan and his 'church', the vatican. Christians still keep Holy the 7th day Sabbath - counterfeit's do not.
It was a way to separate the Christians from the Jews, we started meeting on Sundays because that's when the apostles met (on Easter) and in celebration of Easter we kept that tradition alive. It is a mystery to me why all Baptists are not Seventh Day Baptists. I am not an official member of any church but I believe the Seventh Day Baptists have it right. When I was a teenager in a Southern Baptist Church I became convinced of the Sabbath. I had always been taught that theBible and only the Bible was the only authority for Baptist belief and practice yet we observed Sunday instead so that told me that we were not going strictly by the Bible as I was being told. None of the arguments for Sunday observation ever made any sense to me. Today I do not attend any church but I watch services on Saturday mornings from the Connecting Church in Milton, Wisconsin Wisconsin on TH-cam. As far as I know there is no Seventh Day Baptist Church within 1400 miles of where I live.
I noticed that there was no mention of the Seventh Day Baptists. I’m sure that they must be one of I if not the smallest Baptist denominations. I think they are almost unknown. One time I read that there are more than 30 different kinds of Baptists.
MAT. 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth; for one is your Father, Who is in Heaven. We must not take MAT. 23:9 out of context. It's proper & necessary context is in comparison to every other explicit & implicit use of the word "father" as a spiritual or clerical title or term of endearment in the NT. Explicit - LUKE 16:24, 25, 27, 30 24. And he cried & said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me,... 25. But Abraham said, Son, remember... 27. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father,... 30. And he said, Nay, father Abraham; but if... ACTS 7:2 And he said, Men, brethren, & fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran, ACTS 22:1 Men, brethren, & fathers; hear ye my defence which I make now unto you. PHILIPPIANS 2:22 But ye know the proof of him, that as a son with his father, he hath served with me in the gospel. 1 JOHN 2: 13. I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known Him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father. 14. I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known Him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, & the Word of God abideth in you, & ye have overcome the wicked one. In 1 JOHN 2:13 & 14, fathers = bishops & priests young men = deacons children = laity Implicit - 1 CORINTHIANS 4: 15. For if ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 16. Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me. 17. For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, & faithful in the Lord; who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church. 1 TIM. 1:2 To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, & peace, from God the Father & Christ Jesus our Lord. 1 TIM. 1:18 This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee; that thou by them mightest war a good warfare; 2 TIM. 2:1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. TITUS 1:4 To Titus, mine own son after the common faith; Grace, mercy, & peace, from God the Father & the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour. 1 PETER 5:13 The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; & so doth Marcus my son. 1JOHN 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 1JOHN 2:18 Little children, it is the last time, & as ye have heard that antichrist shall come; even now are there many antichrists, whereby we know that it is the last time. 1JOHN 2:28 And now, little children, abide in Him; that, when He shall appear, we may have confidence & not be ashamed before Him at His coming. The blatantly obvious implication of Paul, Peter, & John referring to other Christians as their sons or children is that they (Paul, Peter, & John) are their fathers. How do we explain this apparent contradiction? The word "your", used twice in MAT. 23:9, is plural & collective. The verb "call" is also plural in its original Greek: καλέσητε, indicating plural & collective action. So MAT. 23:9 could be translated: And all of you (collectively) shall not refer to any man upon the earth as the father of all of you (collectively). For one is the Father of all of you (collectively), Who is in Heaven. Jesus was commanding that His Apostles/disciples/Church should NEVER COLLECTIVELY REFER TO ANY EARTHLY MAN AS THE BEGETTING & BEGINNING FATHER OF THE ENTIRE CHURCH, on earth & in Heaven. Many Protestants, because their anti-catholic bigotry is based on emotional reaction instead of intellectual research & intelligent reason, have developed contradictory & ignorant opinions on the subject of church leadership titles. For example: they say that because Jesus is our High Priest we don't need any human priest. But for Christ to be our High Priest, there must be lower priests beneath Him. Such Protestants have no problem referring to a fellow human as their "pastor". They might not know that "pastor" is Latin for "shepherd". Jesus is the Good Shepherd (JOHN 10:11 & 14). So why do they need a mere mortal human being to be another shepherd over them? Maybe they need him to financially fleece them & turn their minds into mutton. Which relationship is more equal; that between a shepherd & his sheep, or that between a father & his child? Here's the answer: JOHN 5:18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill Him, because He not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was His Father; making Himself EQUAL with God. That verse implies that when Catholics & Orthodox call a priest "father", they are making themselves EQUAL with him.
Exodus 20:3-5 (KJV 1900): Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God," Considering the passage above, please justify praying to Mary.
There is a term to describe changing the subject completely to avoid addressing the matter at hand :). I heard the term a few months ago but can't recall what it is. As far as praying to Mary, yes Catholics ask for her intersession, as the queen mother of the King with the type being king Salomon and his queen mother Basheba. Revelation 12:1 tells us Mary is in heaven and, from what Jesus told the two disciples who wanted to sit next to Him in His kingdom but Jesus said the places had already been decided, I can tell you, based on the fact the Basheba sat on a throne at the right hand of Salamon, my money is on Mary being seated at the right hand of her King Son. Add to that Revelation 5:8, we are told that the saints offer our prayers to God, therefore, we know they, including Mary, hear our prayers. We must also consider that the people under Salomon were said to go through his queen mother with their request, I think we can safely say the same is true in Mary's case. Wouldn't you want to honor your mother that way if she had given birth to you? Consider also that we have the bones of all the Apostles but Mary's tomb is empty. Should we be so surprised when we read that Enoch and Elijah were assumed into heaven. Is Jesus not capable of so honoring Us very own mother? Why is she so hated when her own Son honors her and when Revelation 12:17 tells us she is also our spiritual mother. I really think it is because the Protest has never ended. Therefore, anything the Catholic church teaches is rejected even if it's recorded in Scripture. That's unfortunate and sad. Still, the Church prays daily for unity with our separated brethren in Christ.
John the Baptist is the father of the resarection of the water practice of cleanseing.all others are just modern fragments of John the Baptist. John baptized represents a new life in love light morals and principles, a better man,its merely a symbol of its ritual as useing water as its basis .
Finally, someone else has actually read their Bible and knows where the baptist originated from in the 1st century with John the Baptist and his baptist disciples. Tasked first with the great commission, before the cross and resurrection, before Jesus came to be baptized they were already spreading the gospel and baptizing people. They continued after Jesus ascended to the right hand of God. When Jesus and the dispelled went to Some cities and towns , the people said, we knew you were coming, John the Baptist and his disciples told us, this is literally biblical history of the the first group/christian church in scripture. I'm literally shocked this guy is a teacher of the Bible and is teaching future preachers and ministry workers thinking baptist came out of the reformation period. Such a shame 🤦No wonder there is so much division among baptist. So much confusion they are getting brainwashed with by teachers like this.
You’ll find out quick that the Protestant “churches” were founded by some vainful men . The Catholic Church was started by Jesus and the 12 apostles. 🕊️
When Abraham circumcised himself, the "default" position was credo circumcision. The "default" position later became pedo circumcision. Both were God's will, according to the Bible.
Abram has a tradition of Chaldean.. remember his from Ur and its on Babylon or modern day iraq now, and we all knew that Babylon has many dieties.. Including the moon god.. Yeah, Chaldeans are known as Moon worshippers, not the moon we saw on heaven, but The Moon god. Think, God said, I am the Lord your God, You shall not have no other gods before me... But ELOHIM or GOD is a council.. It consists of powerful dieties.. Like the Trinity. this gods exists and we call them angels today, and one of them is the Light bearer or Lucifer that considered by most as satan, which is wrong.. Satan and Lucifer isnt the same.. Theyre both Antagonist of the Bible, but If you know History, Archaeology, History, Antropology in short if youre WAKE in reality. You will know what im saying.
Incorrect. God commanded pedo circumcision from the very beginning even before Abraham himself was circumcised and then both Abraham and his 13 year old son Ishmael and all his male servants of every age down to 8 days old were circumcised on the same day.
This is perhaps the most helpful explaination for the Baptist movement online. There seems to be a reluctance to provide actual Baptist history for some reason and to try to create some continuity from the beginning of Christianity.
I guess the more I watch youtubers throw around church history as their proof for their origins it just makes me wonder who is doing the cherry picking? This guy said "the default position was believers baptism" and then for a thousand years it switched....then it was recovered...Can anyone prove by those same writings their position either way? Where/what writings does this guy get that comment from? Can he prove it? I'd like to hear the citations from the writings where he gets this macro statement.. ...(the default position). If that's true then Catholics in their detailed citations are the true cherry pickers, because they freely qu0te the church fathers, not just make statements. I've been praying for help on all this, because I am thoroughly confused. If it's not cherry picking your sources and citations to prove your point, then what is it? How do I solve this unknown without direct intervention, like a sign from God, or giving up my life to study the actual writings of the church fathers myself? If you say, "well just read the Bible'", well, which one? The one the Catholics put together with 73 books, or the one which the Protestants improved with 66 books?
Hello everybody! I can afford to disagree with the historian, since his words that Baptists are not the direct heirs of Anabaptists are, to put it mildly, untrue. It should be remembered here that John Smith's group moved to Holland and joined the Anabaptists, where John Smith himself later died. It should also be remembered that Evangelical Baptist Christians in Russia in particular and in the territory of the former Russian Empire in general are the direct heirs of Fraternal Mennonites, that is, Anabaptists. But the Baptists took the name for themselves for historical reasons.
“Baptist” is simply someone who “rebaptizes” By that definition, you’re right, because anabaptists believe that. Where you’re wrong is that the mainstream “Baptist” evangelical church is 10000% descendent from the Church of England, which is who this video is about. The Baptist churches that are of direct descent from anabaptist traditions are very few in number and are exclusively in Europe.
Sorry this is 2 years late, but the Baptist are traced back to the first century with John the Baptist and the baptist disciples preparing the way of the Lord, they were tasked with the great commission first. This was before the cross and resurrection. Even before Jesus came to get baptized they were already spreading the gospel. They continued this after Jesus ascended to the right hand of God. This history is literally from scripture. I can't believe this guy is a teacher of the Bible and thinks baptist came of out of the reformation period. Such a shame🤦no wonder there is so much division among the boss it denomination.
So would I rather have slaves (by defalt) to the Fed. Gov., or to fair and Godly volunteer slave holders? (Whether they be white, black, yellow, or pink). That is the real question. Now we have Gov. system. Is it working?
I'd say that's probably true for many especially the more fundamentalist leaning thinkers. I grew up Baptist and research and even asking questions seemed to be discouraged. To be fair to those dear folks, they were mostly blue collar workers so keeping food on the table and going to church was as much as they had time for. Plus, we didn't have research ability we have today.
Origen (185-254) Homily 5 on Romans he writes: “The Church received from the Apostles the tradition of giving baptism even to infants. For the Apostles, to whom were committed the secrets of divine mysteries, knew that there is in everyone the innate stains of sin, which must by washed away through water and the Spirit.” That’s quite a while before 500 AD.
The gospel, which appears to be a little secular story, is truly a mystery to be known only by revelation. In the 16th chapter of John we are told: “I came out from the Father and came into the world. Again I leave the world and I return to the Father.” In these four short phrases we find the pre-existence of Christ, his incarnation, his death, and his ascension. I could put this in the first person, plural sense and say: “We came out from the Father” for we are told in the 1st chapter of Ephesians: “He chose us in him before the foundation of the world.” So all of us were chosen in him. That is why I can say, “We came out from the Father and came into the world. Again we are leaving the world and are going to the Father.”
Hello friend, at the point of 9:17 minutes into your video you literally said, "you get baptize you get saved" This is exactly, what one of the many different cults do, they change the doctrine of salvation, saying water baptism is what saves you from your sin is demonic! Water baptism only shows, that you are saved by grace thru faith!
I hear about this Trail of Blood. Is there any early historical evidence for this claim. I've read a number of early church writings but I've never found anything on this Trail of Blood. If those documents don't exist, is would seem to me a conspiracy theory is the only alternative.
So this is actually about the history of the name “baptist” not the history of those who hold to baptistic core doctrine which can be traced back to Jesus Christ the chief cornerstone of a church.
I keep hearing about Baptist roots going back to the 1st C. Can anyone direct me to some primary sources from the 2nd C. farward? I've found a good number of primary source writings from those early centuries but not for Baptist. Thanks
Blatantly incorrect. If it were to be correct, the early churches would have believed that. You can’t name a single group that held the core Baptistic doctrines. And please. Don’t name the classic “paulicians or Waldeans” argument. I really don’t feel like making you look like an idiot online.

How come all the earliest Christian’s in the earliest century’s universally believed in baptismal regeneration and a real physical presence of Christ in the Eucharist
The best answer to your question is the belief in baptismal regeneration and the real presence were handed down from Jesus to His Apostles and on to the early Christians. It's well documented in the early Christian writings especially the real presence. It's also in the NT but it must be read through the early church writings by the Apostles' disciples who still had the preaching of the Apostles ringing in their ears. Those writings are the best kept secret commentaries on Scripture.
@@billlee2194 it was a rhetorical question I already believe in it. My point was the earliest Christians were not Baptist like this lad claims they are
@sird2333 I was about to say the same. "Baptist" is the only "denomination" you will actually see in the Bible. What I think alot of people misunderstand about Baptist is we are not protestants, because we never reformed out of the Catholoc church, because any Church that looks to the Bible for all matter concerning belief and practice will be "baptist". Which is a name levied on Bible believers by other churches that consistently persecuted them. I think if Baptists could just go by "christian" that would be more appropriate, but every church and cult believes themselves to be Christian. "Baptist" is appropriate because although we belong to the church that Jesus started, just as Christians submit themselves to Christ in baptism, Jesus submitted Himself to the spiritual authority of His day, John the Baptist. So the name is appropriate.
it's prophetic that the apostles would address the believers in their epistles to the regions/palces they were settled. The HOLY SPIRIT knew that names of congregations would come out at the end of ages! So we know that everyone who repents & receives Jesus Christ as his LORD & SAVIOUR and works out his salvation becomes a believer & belongs to the body of Christ! So i believe that the believers this time are scattered in congregations that teaches the true gospel that was taught by the apostles. And so a religious denomination that believes, teaches and practices the apostles doctine will eventually have true believers in their groups despite not being in any baptist groups...
there is no such thing as receiving Jesus if he hasn't called you, the first move is always His, so we end up having so many people who claim to have received Jesus, whereas nothing has been first offered to them by Jesus so that they would accept it.
None of the early church fathers were anything like Baptists. Credobaptists have brought more doctrinal corruption into the Church that the Romans Catholics ever did.
We have the same faith that Abraham had when he circumcised his household and it is of no surprise that in every case a believer with a household also had his whole house baptized in the NT.
Religion comes from man wanting to get GOD on their side. Most of the Bible is written to Israel to show them that this is never going to work. God showed Paul the correct way to God so we should follow Paul as he follows Jesus (who by the way is the God who created us AND saved us). Those who want to go to heaven and BE WITH God forever must believe what God did for you. You did nothing... not getting wet, not confessing anything, not being "born again" per se, not knelling at an alter, and especially being part of an organized system of people taking your money from you to build really nice buildings. You worship God by doing what is right, which God has showed you thru all the scriptures. The stuff these guys are talking about is the stuff of Religion which came from Constantine's taking over the original Christian operations because these 'nice' people where getting under his skin thru his Military being full of "nice" soldiers and government operations by people who wanted to be "fair" in there dealings with the population they controlled. He took over the Church, killing millions of Christians and making the woods full of homeless people. This has led to billions of people to end up in hell because of their dependency of their "Religion" and not what Jesus did. "it is finished".
you could say Helwys started "A" Baptist church, but he didnt start a "denomination". Baptists by definition are not a denomination as each church is totally independent and beliefs vary from church to church, there is nothing that binds us together in the sense of a denomination like bishops, councils, synods etc
U R wrong. Your definition of "denomination" is wrong. A "denomination" is any name that delineates one thing from another. Also, a "convention" is equal to a "council" or a "synod". The fact that "Baptist" churches don't have bishops is proof that they are not Biblical & are not Christian. "Baptists" are "bastards".
@@ronreeder2967 convention" means "a large gathering or meeting". the baptist convention only meets 3 days per year. they have NO authority over churches, do not ordain anyone, nor can they take church property, and a church can join or leave at will. councils and synods enforce doctrine and and approve clergy and can confiscate church property. so YOU are wrong, and YOU are not any kind of christian. what do u know about being "biblical" when u called baptists "bastards"? Jesus said u will know them by their fruit. thanks for showing ur poisonous rotten fruit, invalidating anything u have to say

From my long experience with the Baptist church, full of lovely and sincere people, their theology does not contain a robust or healthy understanding concerning marriage. They hope your first marriage will work but, if it doesn't, maybe your second, third or fourth one will. They will generally just keep marrying divorced couples whether it sticks or not. I really believe their understanding of divorce, adultery and remarriage is that each sin can be forgiven so they are free to continue living with another man's wife disregarding Jesus' words to the woman caught in adultery...go and sin no more.
Oh man, if you only understood the the context of Church history. “Apostolic succession” is really a controversial doctrine and you shouldn’t hinge church legitimacy on it especially since it seems like circular reasoning
@@adamduarte895 Apostolic succession was not controversal until the Protestant Reformation. Provide me evidence. I guess there was there was apostasy for 1500 years.
No I’m not saying that. I’m saying the magisterium arose within a specific context of history. It’s not a necessary part of Christian doctrine but made sense for that time (possibly). Additionally, the Word is clear in Acts about the priesthood of all believers as being set apart by the work of the Holy Spirit and that thus authority is given to the entire body not a select group of bishops or pontiffs. Secondly, 2 Timothy makes clear that the Scriptures themself have special authority and are God-breathed. The problem with Apostolic Succession is that it itself gives itself infallible authority close to Scripture which man cannot rise to that authority

I find it funny to know that Baptists were originally the radical Puritans. Because nowadays the Baptist tradition seems to many as the bare minimum system of Christian faith and practice. Contrast that to the Puritan tradition, and many people would argue that the Puritans were the radicals. I am a devout Christian who also is a Baptist. I grew up in a Baptist family and I had a large Baptist extended family. I love hearing the story of how one of my paternal great-grandmothers was the only Baptist in the family at the time, and she made sure to raise her kids in the Baptist church. My granddad and his brothers and sister all eventually got saved and practicing Baptists in their own rights. My granddad, who currently serves as a deacon of the Baptist church I also grew up in, is largely what you can call a patriarch in our family. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not created, of one essence with the Father through Whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried; And He rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father; And He will come again with glory to judge the living and dead. His kingdom shall have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Creator of life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who together with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke through the prophets. I’m pleased with the historical dates, he was on point.
@@j.sethfrazer hmm so what do you know about the baptism of Jesus? Gbu, brother.

1JOHN 2:28
And now, little children, abide in Him; that, when He shall appear, we may have confidence & not be ashamed before Him at His coming.
So MAT. 23:9 could be translated:
And all of you (collectively) shall not refer to any man upon the earth as the father of all of you (collectively).
Here's the answer:
JOHN 5:18
Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill Him, because He not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was His Father; making Himself EQUAL with God.
That verse implies that when Catholics & Orthodox call a priest "father", they are making themselves EQUAL with him.
Exodus 20:3-5 (KJV 1900): Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God,"
Considering the passage above, please justify praying to Mary.

This is perhaps the most helpful explaination for the Baptist movement online. There seems to be a reluctance to provide actual Baptist history for some reason and to try to create some continuity from the beginning of Christianity.

Great video, but why didn't he talk about the blood trail controversy?
I must read up on the trail of blood. I'm thinking I won't find any historical evidence before the Reformation.
Roger Williams believed in the law of liberty. it is where separation of church and state comes from. it is the source of the first amendment
History is "his" - story. It varies from who the "his" is. Just something I heard a long time ago. Truth without bias is hard to come by.
That's true. We all bring our own biases to an discussion.
From the layman's readings I've done on what you share, I would say what you say sounds reasonable.
“Baptist” is simply someone who “rebaptizes”
By that definition, you’re right, because anabaptists believe that.
Where you’re wrong is that the mainstream “Baptist” evangelical church is 10000% descendent from the Church of England, which is who this video is about. The Baptist churches that are of direct descent from anabaptist traditions are very few in number and are exclusively in Europe.
I always wondered where Baptists came from.

That's true. The Church was also influenced by pagan philosophy starting with the Apostles.
Baptist has a rich history and regret to see most Baptist believer's Don't know the history.
Origen (185-254) Homily 5 on Romans he writes:
“The Church received from the Apostles the tradition of giving baptism even to infants. For the Apostles, to whom were committed the secrets of divine mysteries, knew that there is in everyone the innate stains of sin, which must by washed away through water and the Spirit.”
That’s quite a while before 500 AD.
Plus, you can fast forward to Luther and Calvin who both taught Baptismal Regeneration and practiced infant baptism.
Origen was a heretic
Secular repeat is not knowing who you are, John 17:5 is yours, but your still blind like John the Baptist and Saul before waking to Paul.

Jesus got baptized, by immersion, by John the Baptist, who recognized Him as the Savior

Thomas Helwys started the Baptist denomination after splitting with John Smythe, sometime after 1609. Look up those 2 names.
you could say Helwys started "A" Baptist church, but he didnt start a "denomination".

That is a false religion. It’s not in the Bible John the Baptist was a baptizer, not his own religion.
Provide a single shred of evidence of your church being apostolic. The Catholics can, can you?

He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried; And He rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures.
