    this makes total sense because all american dobermans have a .45 in their pants so they don't have to be so aggressive/protective.

    This is a classic example of what happens when you retool a handsome breed to be a show dog instead of the guard dog it was originally bred to be.

      American Dobermans are Fantastic Pets. However, if you're looking for a personal protection dog, American Dobermans do not really have what it takes as evidenced by the fact that if you try to buy a pre-trained personal protection dog, nine times out of ten it's going to be a working line German Shepherd, second choice will be a Malinois or X Malinois, which is a mixture of Dutch Shepherd, Malinois, and a little bit of working line German Shepherd

    • @dawncourville7453
      @dawncourville7453 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our American Dobermans were good watchdogs as well. Not all of them but but not all dogs are alike. The American Doberman has its roots in Germany. Honestly if you want to say it correctly, its a Doberman bred in Europe. Just like its a rottweiler bred in America, or a rottie bred in Germany. It's a German dog either way. Sometimes Europe breeds them a little more fierce and territorial I suppose but I prefer to let their natural instincts take care of business. Meaning I don't like my dogs too sharp. There are plenty of Americans who also breed for temperament in this lovely European based breed. Americans can produce a sound temperament too and hv bc that's what we always had growing up and they were EXCELLENT dogs. As far as the mallie or Dutch dogs I've heard good things but let's be honest, they usually end up in pounds bc a typical family over here doesn't hv a clue of what they are getting and in no way can provide the stimulus that they need to be happy. Strictly working dogs, and I'd bet the "American" ones are just a sharp. Let's do away with the mind set that Americans are Dummies who can't possibly understand what it takes to breed a sound dog. If I wanted to turn a Dobie into a trained personal protection dog there's plenty of breeders of this breed here in America who could make that happen for me. Why train it to do that when it comes natural though? The Doberman is a wonderful capable breed, whether it's bred in Europe or America, and all Dobermans originally came from Europe. Quit dumbing down any Doberman bred in America, theyre wonderful, smart , and will protect you. Not all, but most, ok?

    • @Smog104
      @Smog104 ปีที่แล้ว

      European Dobermans are known to have a greater instinctive work ethic. American Dobermans are smaller and lighter than European Dobermans but even though I’d probably get a European one here in England I’d say the American Doberman looks more elegant than European Dobermans.

I really believe that if breeders spent the money to screen before breeding they can correct this in less than 10yrs. When I was a kid our Dobermans lived to be 13 and 15 years old. Now you’re lucky if they make it to 10. I’m crossing my fingers with this one.

      Every dog can be protective and aggressive, a working line dog has more than that and a lot of confidence since about 6 weeks old when other puppies are scared and hesitant. Plus your dog might've been the most protective of it's litter while all the other puppies were too soft for protection work.
