    Thank you so much for your tutorials! I just got this exact lyre and there is almost no music to practice with out there. It's very daunting to get an instrument with little support. Your music is so beautiful that it makes me tear up. I suffer from extreme anxiety but feel pure bliss when I hear your videos. Thank you so much for both the relaxation and the help to those of us who are learning.

    Thank you so much for this tutorial you have such a calm smoothing voice and great teaching method that allows one to easy apply what they have learned . I have been m a saxophone player for many many years but always wanted to commit to different instrument for years. I now have the time and have ordered my first Lyre and while waiting for it arrive I am self educating myself on how to play it. I am very excited to get started and only wish I have the discovered the beautiful sound of the Lyre and the art of playing it years ago. Anyway I am enjoying your videos very much!!

    I am very grateful to you. I have a similar lyre 19 strings. I love it but you’re the only one who takes the time to teach. On chromatic expensive lyres they play with a straight hand technique and don’t use their thumbs. Please can you help me understand what is best? Thank you

      @harpmusica5234  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well it’s really about what works for you. There are lots of different techniques. I also play the harp so I use my harp techniques in my lyre playing and I find them comfortable. Have a look at my harp tutorials on this channel (I have two). Some lyre players find them helpful 🙂

    I tried this using the lower notes and I must say it sounds quite good. You can’t really do the droning. (I’m sure their is a way)
    But I haven’t managed to make the droning sound good yet in the low notes

    Can I just apply any old nail polish to the strings, madam?😬 I'm scared to mess it up, but really need the navigation help.

    • @harpmusica5234
      @harpmusica5234  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can always use little stickers on the pegs if you don’t want to use nail polish 🙂 or maybe (although I haven’t tried it yet) a washable felt tip might work?

    Hello, Love the tutorial! I am trying to learn this on my new 10 string lyre, I have never played an instrument so its all so new to me. My lyre is tuned in the notes:
    C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C,D,E ; the second phase does sound out tune compared to your lovely 16 string Lyre.
    Can this song be played using these tuning notes on a 10 string?
    Thank you so much in advance :)))

    • @harpmusica5234
      @harpmusica5234  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! I think you would be best playing the melody in C. so roughly off top of my head would be c,c,g,g,d,eFlat,d,c. a, bFlat,c,bFlat,g,a,f,g

    • @harpmusica5234
      @harpmusica5234  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      or actually much better in D so you can get the bottom C note - so it would d,d,a,a,e,f,e,d. a,c,d,c,a,b,g,a. That should work without needing to retune.

    Now onto my first song on the wonderful lyre! How often do you tune it?

    • @harpmusica5234
      @harpmusica5234  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! I just check it before playing and I might fine tune the odd string if necessary, but I leave it at that, unless I have to change the tuning for a specific melody. Happy playing 🙂

    • @Atom_Stone
      @Atom_Stone 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just got mine and I have to repeatedly tune the chords. Seems they fall out of tune right after I torgue them down...🤷‍♂️

    • @harpmusica5234
      @harpmusica5234  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That seems to happen for quite a few people. It takes a while for the strings to settle but then you shouldn’t need to tune very often except perhaps to fine tune the odd string 🙂

    Wait so is it tuned in A or A minor? If I need to change my A string to A minor does that mean I need to change my other strings?

    • @harpmusica5234
      @harpmusica5234  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      folk tunes are often written using modes rather than traditional major or minor scales. For this tune, the strings/notes will be A,B, C (natural), D, E, F (sharp), G (natural), A. I tend to keep my lyre tuned that way because of the music I play. hope that helps!

  • @Matobit
    @Matobit 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm so confused what tuning did you do because I am not hitting those notes at all. My lyre is from G to G then G to A

    • @harpmusica5234
      @harpmusica5234  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My lyre also has that tuning. Hard to say what’s happening without hearing you play, but the notes/strings for the tune are in the description box. Check that you have tuned your C natural rather than sharp maybe? Hope that helps 🙂
