In my candid opinion, the modus operandi was a waste of resources. National Security should expressly state the particular statutes he breached and follow due process. National Security is NOT above the law. I can now understand the kind of intelligence briefing the President gets on his desk daily. I have always had serious issues with the logical reasoning of most of the security personnel i have had encounters with. It is so difficult to communicate with them. It makes me wonder what their objective is. Is it to maintain law and order by ensuring public safety and deterring crime or to as it were flaunt their muscles on the ordinary Ghanaian.
The earlier we get the sanity of our security services together, tge better it will be for us. At least, when it comes to institutions like the Ghana Police Service and the Military x, you have a point of reference but thisunit called the National Security, it must be scrutinized thoroughly before we end up rearing lions as pets only to eat us up later

  • @kindomofghana

This has very little to do with security and every thing to do with intimidation to silence dissenting voices to make an example out of Caleb Kudah and everyone involved. I am very sorry that he had to go through this. He certainly didn't deserve this and there is absolutely no justification for what happened to him. It's so sad that he felt like if he said he was Ewe they would have intensified their violence towards him. At some point GH will have to address the tribalism that is being swept under the carpet in Ghana. My sympathies goes out to Zoe Abu as well.
With that being said, I remember during the first covid 19 lock down when the police were brutalising citizens. Bernard and Samens had a discussion about it. Samens was busy supporting the police. He seemed to be expressing the sentiment that the pandemic had to be brought under control and so the police needed to do what they were doing. I won't say that he felt that things had to be brought under control by any means necessary because he did not state that emphatically, but he certainly expressed that the means the police were using was necessary.
I remember Bernard responding to him by saying that we all know where we have been in this country, where military men and law enforcement were allowed to manifest this kind of conduct and we know where it led us to. If we condone this kind of conduct for certain situations, we end up perpetuating and emboldening the cycle of violence towards citizens from law enforcement officials. These were not their exact words, but this is essentially the points they were both conveying per my understanding.
Now that this level of brutality has been brought to his door step, it is quite interesting to see him make a 360° turn on his views and now insisting on democratic procedures. I think this was the point that Bernard was trying to put across back then which didn't get through to Samens, as he firmly held on to those views; you cannot be selective about when you want the rule of law to be applied. Once you condone this sort of conduct for certain situations, you lose control of when and how it's applied, or who ends up at the receiving end of this modus operandi. This is especially when you're not part of the ruling class. Your status as a media house has earned you some level of respect, but not quite the privilege that the untouchable ruling class has. Just be mindful of the kind of conduct you endorse from those who wield power, influence and authority.
