*Just to confirm, the only reason the top needs to be taken off is to activate the tensioner, is that correct? Hoping to tackle this on a 2014 Equinox and correct the “slapping” until oil pressure is there in colder weather. It’s fine in summer. Am I missing something obvious?*
Why did you pull timing cover? Couldn't you just pull valve cover swap in new tensioner hit it to set it reasseamble it and be good? Im just lost why you pulled timing cover? Please respond i used to work on cars went to college for it timing chains on motorcycles ive done for yrs but in cars its pretty complicated. I cant beleive they dont sale a racheting tensioner to replace the hydralic tensioner the design seems poorly designed to use oil pressure my terrain rattles on start up previous owner had timing set gears and guides changed. Im guessing the tensioner is bleeding off like a bad lifter. But i know if i remove the tensioner in back of head if it jumps time im in a world of shit. Back in the day guys i worked with used cam gear locking tools. Ive never done a newer timing set in a modern car shit kinda scares me. If its one tooth off its gotta all come back apart plus i got bad knees
Hello..i replaced the timing chain in my 2012 chevrolet captiva 2.4 is same like this one on the video.but i didnt put the upper timing guide.the one close to the sensor on the cylinder head.because the timing chain was scratching it for some reason.
valve cover off. locking pliers on each camshaft. magnetic wand against inside of tensioner, just in case. remove tensioner bolt. add new Cloyes tensioner, torque to 55 ft pounds. activate tensioner.- watch a video.
I got a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu my chain is rattling the timing chain tensioner is very weak what I be able to get away with just putting a tensioner in it instead of changing the chain to he only has 170,000 would it tighten it up
i normally love your videos but i can't help but feel you made this over-complicated. *why did you open the timing chain cover on the side of the engine?*
People if you have over 125,000 miles in this engine you need to replace all the timing components and water pump unless you want to pay someone to do it again or worse yet end up replacing the engine completely.
What was the point of taking off the bottom cover? you didn't do anything inside at all other than turn the motor, you looked at the timing marks but nothing else was done just don't see the need to remove it to put the new tensioner in. From up top what did I miss?

How come no one can explain why it’s bad to turn the engine in a counter clockwise position? It would literally just be turning the opposite direction like a bicycle chain.
My 2012 Equinox will not turn over the code came up timing chain I pulled the top off and it looks like the timing chain is still intact. Could it just be the tensioner that is bad

I would have replaced the timing chain and guides, as you are in this far.
Good information, thanks
can you replace the tensioner from the outside engine without going into the engine
How do you rset the old tensioner if its still good?
Question to what you did with the old use engine?
Why not do the Val stems?

Would it take hours to fix this or how long

Can you reset a tensioner to reuse? If so how? Thanks
Any tips on replacing just the tensioner?

you missed the part about taking off the chain
That chain was so loose, I don’t think you released the tensioner correctly

He replaced the timing chain but it wasn’t shown in the video unfortunately

What engine is that , cause your crank key was facing like 7 o'clock
Never started engine at the end of the video.
Excellent video

I buy a timing chain tensioner for a 2015 Chevy equinox but the tensioner has not pressure
doesnt have pressure until its ‘activated’, activate after installing

No torque specs? Normally I trust TRQ. Not this time. Bad video!
