Who's here when Kenny Omega announced his fifth member of Team Elite for AEW Blood and Guts against the Team Blackpool Combat Club, Pac, and Takeshita and that name is Kota Ibushi at AEW Dynamite?
As a psychology nerd, I’m sitting here studying every second of this. The way Matt backs up that extra bit when Kenny shoved him; he’s scared because his best friend would never attack him. The rest of them are shocked, but Hangman looks like he’s surprised, but still pissed. Like “okay, but what about me?” The way Kenny’s body language shows true disappointment in himself. And the way Matt’s reaction played out is so perfect. He only wanted to help, but instead he got hurt; the way he kinda sinks out of the ring in shame. It’s all just so *chefs kiss*
The way they all reacted after the bucks left. Cody leans into the ropes in contemplation; “are we okay?” That moment, he can’t tell if this is Kenny being a loose canon or if this is something he’s genuinely messed up over. Then Marty and Hangman: Marty starts pushing Kenny at first until Kenny whispers to him, then he talks himself down; “Sort this out amongst yourselves,” And Hangman just kinda leaves. Again, that disturbed “what the hell” demeanor but he hesitant because “well what about me”. His moment was taken.
Marty trying to stop Cody, he doesn’t want this conflict; he didn’t want Kenny to act all cocky, but he doesn’t want Cody to beat the hell out of him either. And Hangman: he’s staring down the opportunity to get back at Kenny for taking his moment, but now that Cody’s acting like a damn maniac, he’s not sure it’s what he wants anymore. The “what about me” fades to “what about us”.
When Kota holds out his hand: Kenny can’t take it because he can’t grasp the fact that 1. The Elite just betrayed him and left him in the ring. 2. He just might have brought that upon himself by being the cocky mf he was. It’s the way his body shakes after he turns kota down; he hurt his best friend, got beat down by two other “friends”, then left in the ring.
The tear from Kota. He feels Kenny’s pain and god, he feels just how beside himself Kenny is. That’s when he decides “I don’t care if you want me here or not, I’m going to be here.” And Kenny is right on that level, falling into his arms.
This is AMAZING looking back now. The storytelling of the Bullet Club split is outrageously good. The seeds planted a whole year before this as the international side of Bullet Club was distancing itself from the OGs, often referring themselves by other names (Kenny, the Bucks and Cole as "The SuperCliq", Kenny, Cody and Marty as the "Luxury Trio", Kenny and The Bucks being the original Elite) and Tama Tonga calling out Kenny and attacking him for it during their G1 match in 2017....and then nothing, silence about if not for subtle reference in Tama Tonga's backstage interviews after matches and the OGs just quietly separating themselves from them as the ultimate "player" came about....Jay White...who initially refused Kenny invitation to join Bullet Club, promised to change it by having the "international" side of it implode when he took the belt from Kenny which he succeeded... There's a HUGE foreshadowing of events that happened down the line here....Kevin Kelly asking "where's the rest of Bullet Club" as the only people who appeared here were part of the international/Elite side...no Tongans, no Yujiro, no Chase...none of them. Then of course the OGs apparently sided with the Golden Lovers from here, but Tama Tonga once asked of where his allegiance stood before a match against Cody and Marty in the US between "Team Kenny" or "Team Cody", he just said "He wasn't Team Cody" but not saying he was with Kenny either. No Bullet Club appeared when Kenny won the IWGP Title, they didn't show up up until Kenny and Cody beat the hell out of each other in the US. All while Jay White subtly teared CHAOS from the inside too...and all the way to that reveal where Gedo betrayed Okada and sided with Jay and Jay revealed he basically was Bullet Club OGs all along a month later. The OGs has distanced themselves from the Elite and didn't care about the battle between the two self appointed leaders because they were serving another leader all along. Too bad the Elite left....as much as I like AEW, a true all out war between Jay's Bullet Club and Kenny's Elite would have been awesome.
@@AlexRydian I'm honestly convinced the pandemic might be the only reason why we didn't get it and why we won't gonna have that soon. Unless the entire Bullet Club migrates the US and NJPW Strong. AND the Elite would have to reunite and turn babyface probably. That's hard too. Kenny is out for some time now, Adam Cole is in AEW, which probably will lead to a similar scenario to this one in AEW with Kenny and Cole, which might have been the initial plan in NJPW too before Cole left for NXT as they seemed to be planning a split between them in the months before, with Cody taking on the same positiion Cole was in after he left....then Cody himself should reunite with them AND Kenny and Hangman would have to bury the hatchet. Which by the way, considering the great story Kenny and Hangman themselves told in their AEW feud, it's seems almost surreal to watch them have problems here already, with Kenny taking away the first big moment from Hangman as he stepped up to challenge for the US Title. Meantime, on the other side Bullet Club might soon have another implosion, with the weird "House of Torture" deal going on with EVIL and his gang. So it all feels highly unlikely....but who knows. The forbidden door is still open.
Can you believe that Kenny and Ibushi's story started in 2008 (!) in another promotion? This was ten years later and it was as if the fire and chemistry between them never went away. If they do it again in AEW, for me the Golden☆Lovers will forever be cemented as the best story in wrestling history.
I have a feeling this will happen to Kenny, too, once he loses the belt. In the beginning, he was supposed to feud with Adam Cole, but once he left, it turned into Cody. I believe they're going to pick that storyline back up in AEW. Instead of Ibushi, Hangman's going to be the one to save him.
Feels like we'll be getting Kota soon, he's been hinting at it and with the whole Elite and Hangman stuff going on right now and a huge event in All In coming up in the summer it feels like the perfect time. Ironic that Jay White, who won the title here, has just debuted and is starting an AEW Bullet Club, the main stable in this video.
