I started my raised bed garden all from seed this year, and let me tell you, all the seeds i got from MI Gardener did AMAZING! A couple other brands I reluctantly planted did not go so well. Already bought more seeds from you guys, I learned my lesson.
My seeds did amazing also. My tomato plants are at least 5 feet tall! And already picked 8 jars of pickles, and have about 100 babies and flowers still. And that was just 3 plants!
That's good to know. I just went to his website to order all my seeds but unfortunately, everything I wanted was out of stock.
@@321novrain I think his seeds are seasonal. I would check back between October and January. This is my first year using them and everything sprouted and is growing like crazy.

That is like a weeks worth of produce from just one picking of just a few tiny areas in your garden and you have so much more out there! People who think that you can't grow enough food to survive off of in a suburban back yard garden don't know what they are talking about. This video is proof! My dad always grew enough to feed our family of six from just half of our backyard. ❤ ❤❤
YEP YEP!!! i was just looking over the amount of seeds in one cucumber and told my husband there is no reason anyone should be going hungry in this world. the potential abundance that is in this world is amazing and the insane want the world to start eating bugs... wut?
my grandpa fed 10 people from his backyard in detroit back during the 30s until the 60s and even the 70s when us grandkids were around... he even snuck different little things into my grandma's one little rose bed she designated just for herself and boy that sure got things stirred lols
we have a small yard ourselves and we are trying to also utilize vertical space and even have some free range raspberries that decided they like our space so they stay just outside the fenced area, taking in the love we give and returning the love in fresh fruit... i took some seeds from some store bought mini peppers and a seed pack from luke and planted a whole tray and every single one germinated, so now i will have sweet peppers coming out of my ears lols.... if everyone that was physically able would grow some of their own food again, it would make such a difference!!!

Its a supplement. But not enough to live off of. Its very nice and useful and healthy for vitamins, exercise, ect. But, I would try to live off of a small yard.

I am always amazed at the difference between moderate and hot climates. BUT, in my hot climate, I get a long fall season and it is time to plant my fall gardens.
My peppers, tomatoes, beans and squash did fantastic this year too. I am very happy with my harvest. They grew so well somebody has sneaked into my yard while I was sleeping and picked my Banana Peppers! I was so angry! So now I’m harvesting daily and not giving anything “one more day” to grow. I’d be happy to share if they asked! Geez…I’ve shared a lot bc it’s just me. I’ve given a lot away…maybe I also have given myself away in the process too? Idk…but I do share with all my neighbors.

We had a lot of heirlooms cat facing this year. We’ve had extreme drought and this morning we finally got 3” of steady rain!! First all season! I can hear tomatoes popping everywhere 😂 and don’t mind because we finally got rain!
So much harvesting to do. Surprised we have so much, but it was a lot of watering to get it this year.

It does not! If it's a simple toss you they should be okay. However, if you throw it as hard you can.. then they would probably bruise or break haha!

Its been so hot here in North Florida that most everything I was growing has died. Can't wait to get my fall garden going. I have some seeds started already. Your garden is amazing 😊

There is some might big French fries :) - Totally agree with the hilling - what I did this year was just checked around the plants and make sure I didn't see any surfacing - if I did then I just added more dirt to that section. Your size patch in this video is our size as well. Excellent Yield!
I grew 10 potato plants using Ruth Stout in an area where there were more worms than soil, pretty much. Got 0 potatoes.

saturday i made a batch of red fingerlings, green beans, onions all from the garden and bacon (tho i wish i could get some bacon seeds ;) i just came in from the garden bcs it started sprinkling and i hauled in 2 dz pickling cuckes, another bunch of green beans, yellow pear and cherry maters....i still have to get back out there and harvest some salad greens, fennel, parsley, potatoes and i cant keep up with the squashes and eggplant (anybody want some eggplant??? hahaha)
im making some squash breads, and bread n butter pickles this week AND a friend of ours messaged us last night to tell us their apple tree is ready for harvest...
such blessings!!!

I love it when you do a garden tour and mention the names of the varieties of plants you grow and like. I always have my seed catalogs for my growing area here in Canada to see if it is available here so I can grow it here. I take notes on your advice and try to make it a goal next growing season to try new ways to garden and fertilize as well as try new seeds. You are so energetic in your garden, you look like a kid in a candy store lol! Next year I want some MIGardener seeds in my soil! Oh and I planted some lemon grass this year as I was inspired by one of your videos. I love it and so does my neighbours cats, more so than the catnip.

Dr. Wyche's was my record breaking tomato 2 years ago, & the past 2 years, the ananas noir has broken the record! I love that variety! Theyre so beautiful. I just hate when theres such large sections that have to be cut away (wasted) because of the catfacing...

I'm hoping next year I can encourage more neighbours to start growing food as well. I had a severe depressive episode last year and lost everything including my perennials. Starting over this year but its going well. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Do you remember the plant spacing you had on those peppers? They looked relatively"high intensity"?
My potato harvest was dismal this year. I had better luck last year in my 5Five 5 gallon buckets. I grew in 20 pound grow bags this year too. So disappointing. But I’m going to do it again next year and fix what I think and know what I did this year that wasn’t successful. Never quit! Never..

every year is a learning experience. i did some little grow bags last year and it really didnt do well for me either.
SE Michigan. Here, got fall pole beans in. Already over top of 10 foot trellis and starting small beans. By the way is that a wisteria I see blooming? Looks great either way.

Everything you’ve grown looks amazing! Where I live, it’s been well over 100, mostly 105-107 for weeks with no rain. Even with watering, my garden has taken a beating and some of my flowering plants and veg are cooked to a crisp😞

You had a squirrel running recon while you're pulling potatoes! Nice harvest! I switch mine up yearly. It's mainly based on what I feel like enjoying during the season and needs/wants for the after-season (canning). I am still loaded down with six different pickles, enough beans, and some other things (tomatoes - paste, spag sauce, taco sauce, simple tomato cooking base, etc). So, this year I went more salsacentric (not sauce). It's all bells, jalapenos and tomatoes. The tom's are three varieties - Pink Girl, Berkley Pink Tye Dye and Celebrity. The Pink Girl are my main canner types but will use them all in the mix. Late season harvest for me because of crazy spring/summer weather. I am at Lake of the Ozarks, MO, so zone 6b.

Wow! Your garden looks great! I wish mine were doing that well. The rain and humidity is insane here so I'm almost afraid to plant anything after alot of my first batch of peppers and tomatoes I grew from seed fizzled out. My remaining peppers are having their leaves ripped up by bugs. I have a few things still alive but they are stagnant.
Saving many of the seeds I bought from you until things stabilize with the weather. We had a record high today and the humidity was so bad the county was calling people to tell them not to go out unless they absolutely have to. I have this fungal infection on my arms and the side of my neck that's like all my pores are raised in little itchy bumps so have taken a break from most of my outdoor gardening. I did dig up another plot tonight after dark and even then I was sweating buckets and had to take a shower immediately after coming inside because it was like I had gone swimming with my clothes on and it started to make me itch again. I'm hoping that Fall will go better and not be so hard on my plants (and on my skin!)
The spearmint is germinating indoors under a grow light and it's still tiny but I'm really hoping that it will get to maturity and that transplanting it won't make it wilt and die off. Crossing my fingers because I used the whole pack in a square plastic container. Some of the sprouts' bases are coming out of the soil and tipping over, so I had to re-root them in a hole made with the end of a pencil. Since they are so young they don't have much root on them yet with which to grip.
That is strange about that allergic reaction you're having from various vegetables. I hope it will go away eventually.

One this I learned this year that helped our harvest was to STOP fertilizing after mid-July. Before I used to fertilize through the summer until I learned that LESS fertilizer at the end can help trigger plants to ripen their fruits more. Probably doesn't apply to things like strawberries, but nitrogen especially isn't very useful for summer plants and might basically just wash away or get volatized into the air if applied in the fall. I compost and cover with mulch, but I save much of the nitrogen rich stuff for spring. I do mix in some nitrogen with leaves to get them to compost quicker, but not into the soil per se.

if you like collard greens, try some of those beet greens! great for smoothies, too.
Crookneck pumpkin is what we call them in Australia. They don't travel well so aren't sold in stores as the neck can break but are delicious.
In Texas! We haven’t had rain since June where I am :( it’s also been no lower than 99. This video give me joy for the spring. I won’t be having a fall garden this year
Kennebec potatoes don't need hilling anyway as they are a determinate variety and grow one layer at the bottom of the plant. Only indeterminate varieties require hilling as they grow their tubers up the plant.
Some of those are perfect french fry taters.
My kenniebecks were massive this year! I got lots more russets but they were smaller than my kenniebecks.

I can't visit your store anymore. My seed addiction is taking over my freezer. ;) I purchased plants from a local grower this year, and we refreshed the beds with Kellogg soil. Not sure which was not up to snuff, but the plants have done pretty poorly. I'm thinking the soil was a problem. We do have lots of cucumbers, lots of green tomatoes (from seed), lots of eggplant flowers but no eggplants, butternuts finally growing (from seed), and the spicy peppers are doing ok. 5 total zucchini, teeny tiny yellow squash, rabbits got the beets and green beans... blah... Love your videos and your store.
Those fruit trees are getting so big! I'd watched some earlier videos from a few years ago when I was planting mine earlier this year. Jealous of the leafy greens too.

All my seedlings that were supposed to be jalapeños turned out to be banana peppers 😂

I’ve got the same problem, thought the peppers were jalapeños but ended up a type that is supposed to turn red and is slightly curled.
Do you trim back your tomatoes through out the summer? Or are they determinate types?
Luke you should look into a probiotic tooth paste and mouth wash. Or a more natural one that doesn't kill off your good bacteria in your mouth like Dr bronners or rise well. And your garden is looking pretty good considering the year we've had. Great job! 🌻🌶️🥒🍅

I live in the deep south, outside of Atlanta. What do I do with my soil when the bugs seem to have made it their home? I tried to plant some cucumbers into some soil last month to replace a couple of dead plants. After looking more closely under the soil where they died, they died because they ended up being food for bugs that were there.
Following... my compost is ready, nice & rich but lots of crawlies. Not sure which are good & which are bad.
I believe we have those pears in the city of Fredericksburg Virginia, the side walks are lined with fruit trees and in the middle of the city right next to a civil war statue theres a grove with a ton of pear trees, its public space so i would go there and harvest like 3 or 4 bags of them and then walk a quarter of a mile and harvest bags of cherries right from the sidewalk, ppl thought it was poisonous and would walk right past them most of the time lol
What a great harvest. When I sprayed baking soda on my cucumber, it burned the leaves. Can high temperature cause this?

My pumpkin plants are not doing so well. I have one pumpkin growing. What is the matter? My plants didn’t even get very big.
Plant more pollinateing plants… also more than one pumpkin i had one and it wasn’t doing well.. got about 5 now plenty of pumpkins coming this year. Isn’t to late to plant from seed might get them a litter later

I only have female flowers on my cucumbers. I tried a variety that doesn’t depend on fertilization but died in the heat.
Are pill bugs ever a problem in the garden. I have noticed a lot more of them this summer. I haven't seen any problems with my plants but I tried to google them and got some conflicting info. What say you?
They generally eat plant debris and aren’t harmful but if they get overpopulated they can start to target your seedlings and other plants.
what's the reason behind harvesting partially ripe tomatoes because of the coming rain?
Infrequently watering can cause splitting but he said he has been getting lots of rain and more to follow.

I am jealous. I try to do everything right, everything I’ve learned and mites, attacked my tomatoes. They’re so tall I can’t reach them. I’ve pruned I have washed them. I’m just exhausted. It’s too hot to be outside to continue to baby my tomatoes. I’m just in tears and frustrated. I never leave a negative message, but I am at my wits end, so disheartened. I’m about ready to just forget it. I am very sad and in tears. 😭

I felt the same way a few weeks ago when we were at the peak of our summer heat. The tomato plants took forever to set fruit. Once the heat wave passed and the nights got a little cooler I started getting fruit set. Now it’s just waiting for them to get ripe.
