It's fun for sure! I also love all the tidbits about the plants, and what challenges they had, or successes. I'm definitely geared up to start my seeds now!
Yes, it makes me so happy and motivated to start some myself. And Jacques tapping of the hand is so distracting lol I was listening to Kevin however.. lol
I’m OVER summer 🥱 #scorchingMe 🥵 Ready for a cool breeze 🍃 My favorite seeds …I frame the envelopes ( art , it matters ) So pretty!!! Chartreuse #Zinnia yes please ☝️. 🌍
I remember having similar vegetable standoffs with my mom as a kid. The '90s were so different because I could threaten to die at the table over some peas and carrots and my mom's attitude was like "Then perish." 😅
I love the idea of “cooking with Jacque”. No pressure (haha) but what about individual videos about specific veggies etc: from seed to table. How/when to plant; care; when to harvest; ways to cook. The sky is the limit! There can even be a combo video with salads 🥗 and all the ingredients (even decorative/edible flowers). Thanks! Love the channel ❤️
Reminder that micro-greens can always be grown inside for those who have real winter! We enjoyed lots of micro green peas all winter long. Great in soups and salads. Also broccoli & radish greens are some of my other faves, along with mung bean sprouts
Yes! You can also find Aerogarden setups on deep discount at the end of the season, you can grow quite a lot of smaller fresh herbs and greens easily with it. Helps stave off winter blues!
I remember when you (Kevin) was doing the seed starting for the first time in your new house. It was dark outside at that time & it was just you. Seed starting with Jacques is a whole lot of fun. The conversation, sharing of knowledge, acknowledging what did not work, witnessing friends banter is such a wholesome, heart-fattening, neuron building thing to watch. ❤️❤️❤️
I’m Italian, good job on the pronunciation. A broccoli recipe: Cut up 5-10 cloves garlic Cut up a lb. broccoli florets 2-3 cups chicken broth Sauté garlic in EVOO till lightly golden. Add broccoli and stir. Add broth and cover till broccoli just done. You can add this over a bowl of pasta. Grate Romano and red pepper over pasta and enjoy. So delicious!
Nice seed suggestions. I'm zone 6b. Charles is mild mannered and the Boss. We are in our mid 70's yrs. young and we were ready to turn in the trowel. Then we discovered. Charles Dowding. An awesome teacher for us. Children's books he's published....the whole family, parents and grand parents can learn much from.
I think what I love about this is two guys being so genuine and relaxed together. You two are such a fun dynamic. I can't wait to see where you go next. So inspiring!
I just released a double feature on fall growing crops too. 8 seeds to sow in August and How to choose fall crops plus what NOT to sow in August in case you don’t live in San Diego 😋👍 Happy Fall Seeding!
I bought a Birdie from you all earlier this year to start my first veggie garden. It has worked great this summer. I think a cool video would be to show what you can grow with the real estate of just one birdie. You could show what the different layouts for plants and different combos of plants that would work well together in a birdie. Thanks!
Jacques busy planting away and is litterally just throwing in all those seeds! I need lots of variety. Kevin is busy chatting and reading those packages😂
This Seeding Frenzy Bro Date is giving me lyyyyyyyfe! Great info and top-notch banter. ❤ I usually hate my garden by this point in the summer, but now I’ve been inspired to start some fall crops. Thanks lads!
Nice to aee a couple smaller seed companies included as well. I understand the focus on botanical interest varieties, but smaller seed companies like Truelove Seeds have some real treasures on offer.
Good to see there's still some diversity of seeds being sown even thought EG owns BI now! I really love seeing all the different seed companies you buy from and the wide variety of types of each fruit veggie or herb. I've really admired both of your seed collections over the years!
I remember watching a video of you two, commenting on leeks and how the white part is the most prized. it blew my mind, for me the green part is the best, although we use the whole thing for cooking, leeks are specially tasty in a french style quiche with diced ham, mushrooms and cheese.
I love your gardening videos and they are an inspiration. ❤ I live in South African so our seasons are at different months of the year (eg. September = Spring). Sun rise= East and temperature 🌡 in C°. We don't have consistent gardening youtubers in my country that I can relate to so i started my own channel hoping that people will comment with advice and guidance on my gardening journey. I hope one day I can have a garden like yours 😊
I have ordered two different native flower mixes to plant. One for a northern meadow and one for a dry seaside meadow. Lot of the seeds need a proper winter to grow and I live in Northern Sweden zone 5a. So this is my planting for late August/September.
I have to plant in large bins, (the 200 lb feed buckets). I live in SW Oklahoma and the weather this summer has been awful. I list my tomatoes but peppers are doing good. I’ll try and plant a few of these this weekend! Thanks guys!!
Love the fact you can do seasonal planting, you hit the nail on the head that us further north are jealous! I have to usually plant my beets and leeks at the beginning of the season and then harvest them before the real cold comes in (they're good to leave in the ground for a while but get them before they freeze!).
Great tips for starting seeds. I would have forgotten to bottom water the trays also. We are all multi-tasking right now. Keven and Jacques. You make a great team. Fun while learning. Thanks.
Got my clancy potatoes starting to come in from spring, and they are DELICIOUS! Small but so awesome, and growing potatoes from seed is next level gratifying. You got this!!
Glad to hear Jaques saying he's given up on napa due to earwigs, I've had a similar experience with broccoli. And even though I love it, I will never grow it again. I'm not alone!
I live in coastal MA, which is zone 6A, but we seem to be resisting getting any frosts until sometime in very late October, and even the beginning of November. The last couple of years we didn't have a hard freeze until mid November! I like taking chances because they can be high reward with rooting crops like carrots and definitely brassicas! Going to finish transplanting broccoli and bok choy this week!
I love charred Brussel Sprouts. Oil on a stainless steel cookie sheet B.S. halved, salt, toss it. Hot oven or broil on lower shelf. My cookie sheet has no coating/non-stick surface. It's so old I can't get the baked on browning off in the corners. I'll call it patina. The best. I have to check out the fire cooker you did the pizza in.
I appreciate that you used your companies seeds for this video. I look forward to seeing how well they grow and which varieties I can add next year (like the golden beets). Thanks for the video.
De Cicco is my all-time favourite! Grows so well here in South Australia 🙂. I'd love to hear how it goes up there. You should definitely do a follow up at season's end 👍.
Ready to plant here in Zone 5 southern NH! We've learned to love steamed brussel sprouts with a gruyere and white wine cheese sauce. It will change your life...
Great video; fall gardens are the absolute best! I’m excited to see the follow up for the Clancy potato. Potatoes from seed seem to be super rare. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone do it. Super cool!! Good luck with them taters 🍀
I need to get my fall garden in gear. Only planted a few things so far because summer is still full swing and room is at a premium. Another great video!
I just recently took out my corn stalks and sowed some ornamental corns. I sowed more watermelons, pumpkin, korean radish, green beans, shishito peppers, and carrots. Oh yea and I started some pansies and violas for fall. Can't wait to harvest in the fall
Brilliant unspoken visual tip by Jacque: tap the back of your hand that’s holding the seed packet to gently nudge the seeds out for planting. Fantastic! That’s a great short right there with the “Flintstone twinkle toes” sound 😉
Pigeon Peas are a small tree. So, make sure they have room to grow and they will shade smaller plants. They are great Nitrogen fixers and we use them for soil improvement and chop and drop in Florida. Mine are about 6 months old and are around 6' tall.
I got some lettuce seeds from botanical interests during the sale a couple months ago. I’m ready for summer to be over so that I can start my fall crops. I had some success this being my first summer planting but I had more success and items to eat in fall/winter.
I’m a new “gardener” and just planted some cabbage that’s now about 2 inches tall and a bunch of bell peppers and lettuce… not realizing just how soon the first frost will be here 😆 so probably gonna be a fail, but I started getting into house plants and have kept my two pothos alive and got back into healthy eating and want to grow veggies to eat and show my kids how amazing it is. So now I’m trying to figure out what I can plant in zone 7 right now so I can hopefully have something successful lol. My soul is crap though. It’s solid red clay and I’ll probably have to do raised beds for sure. Just so much to learn and so much prepping to do before I can even get to really planting. I mean I’m popping stuff in the ground after germinating but it’s more of a “if it grows it grows if not ok” just to experiment. I grew some potatoes from old red potatoes I had thrown out and started growing on top of the soil and some russet eyes that sprouted and I buried (way too shallow) but pulling those little potatoes up finally was SO GRATIFYING!! I’m hooked lol.
Yep,,, I’m zone 5 but I can enjoy harvest since late July till middle September 😀and plant garlic in October and grow some greens 🥬 little longer then regular summer crops .😃
I'm growing filderkraut too! I'm in zone 8b, and my summer seems to be a fair amount shorter than yours, so I started mine within a couple weeks after the solstice, and my young cabbages are just barely starting to curl into the beginnings of heads.
Zone 8b here. I have some Touchstone Gold beet and King Richard leek seeds!! Thanks to this vid, I'm gonna start them both this weekend. Also, you got the pronunciation right the first time for that broccoli - say it like "dee Cheek oh". 😊
Hi guys. I’ve missed quite a few of your videos over the last few months and I had no idea that you’d started a seed company. That’s awesome news! It’s great to see how you’ve developed your business over the years whilst promoting great solid gardening ideas. Well done!
GUYS ENDIVES WITH HAM AND MELTED CHEESE IS AMAZING. You separate each leave and place them on a baking tray like little boats and your shred a piece of sliced ham or turkey, pour some grated cheese on it and place it under a medium broil until the cheese gets bubbly and omggggg try it
For endive, I think treating it like brussel sprouts where you roast it, and it takes away the bitterness. I roast it with oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper. Super simple and yummy. Also wishing the best for the napa cabbage. Kimchi is the best and totally worth the effort.
Wow .. I hit the 1K like. But more important .. thanks for helping me review and plan my fall plantings. At this time, I am planning to start 15-18 various veggies in about 300 sq. feet of available growing space after the extreme heat ended over ½ of my summer garden.
Here in Holland we eet alot of endive in the winter. You make mashed pataoes put in raw chopped Endive and add some bacon peaces in and a bit of vinger poor gravy over and enjoy 😋
Why do we love watching Kevin and Jacques start seed trays together. It's the banter. They are so genuine. Sharing what they know. Love it!
I love it too. I feel like I’m there with them. 😊
It's fun for sure! I also love all the tidbits about the plants, and what challenges they had, or successes. I'm definitely geared up to start my seeds now!
Yes, it makes me so happy and motivated to start some myself. And Jacques tapping of the hand is so distracting lol I was listening to Kevin however.. lol
Are they brothers?
For Jacques' hand tapping seed sprinkling technique! I mean, come on!
Two grown men opening seeds like pokemon cards. Gotta grow them all
Who hit the fast forward button on summer?!
Seriously
@Disabled.MegatronGreat point . I didn’t think about that
Where has the time gone?! There’s so many things I haven’t done yet! 😅
I wish someone would push the fast forward button for here in Arizona 😂
I’m OVER summer 🥱
#scorchingMe 🥵
Ready for a cool breeze 🍃
My favorite seeds …I frame the envelopes ( art , it matters ) So pretty!!!

I remember having similar vegetable standoffs with my mom as a kid. The '90s were so different because I could threaten to die at the table over some peas and carrots and my mom's attitude was like "Then perish." 😅

your mom was right.

Fenugreek!
the hand motion Jacques does when planting seeds is EPIC
It’s my favorite too! The back hand tickle cracks me up every time! 😂
I will have to try this method out.
The banter between you two is so uplifting and fun! Oh, and the information you teach is also good. ;)
"Neuron building" I love that.
The cutest thing about your videos is Jacques randomly going "Ooooh!" when he approves of something 😂
Or “interesting” when he doesn’t 😂
@@fuzzynuggetsbees YESSS 😂😂😂
For celery you don’t use, freeze it. Use it to make chicken, beef or turkey stock. You can use any of the leftover parts; base, leaves and stocks 😃
I’m Italian, good job on the pronunciation.

Cut up a lb. broccoli florets

I buy Botanical Interest seeds all the time & had no idea this was your seed company! They’re amazing 👊🏻
I can't believe we are already starting a new garden!!
I am so jealous of your climate. It's over 105 every day where I am and it feels like there is no end to summer in sight 😭
I just released a double feature on fall growing crops too. 8 seeds to sow in August and How to choose fall crops plus what NOT to sow in August in case you don’t live in San Diego 😋👍

I love how Jacques magically ends up with like 37 different seeds while Kevin is only at 12 in the same amount of time. 😂

I have cabbage growing right now in Europe 😋

Really fun video! Humorous, informative and laid back.
Honestly I live in South Africa so at the moment I can't wait for this cold weather to end so I can start my summer crops and have some beach time!
I need a friend I can just sit and plant seeds with!
Early coppenhagen is a great little cabbage. That being said I had to start mine several weeks ago since I am in Canada 😢
My 90s mom would boil the Brussel sprouts then she would pan fry them in butter. Sometimes she would cut them in half. They were dabomb
'right now I feel like I'm a soup' hahaha love it
LOVE THIS VIDEO SO MUCH!
Man red Russian kale up north is great! Picking greens in January no cover pretty outstanding. Survived a winter vortex 😮
