Thanks so much for posting this video. Your instructions (along with those of JoeSchlubb's) helped me replace my radio in my 2004 Civic LX by myself. No way I would have tried it without your videos.
THANK YOU for uploading! I have that tool sitting in my tool box that I have never used on anything; but I will have to give it a try with the tape next time! Also I tore my whole center console out to install some blue FD lights a few years ago; and it is neat to see how that front part comes apart EASIER! I am thinking about doing some more modifications to the car and your video will help make it MUCH easier! Thank you!
Thank you for the video. I was able to change my audio system following the video instructions. I have three recommendations to every one planning to install a new audio system: 1. Add some extra protection to the parts to avoid minor scratches, you can use painters tape for example, works very good 2. As a must, buy the Harness adapter before doing this work you will save a lot of time, the installation will be cleaner and only costs around 10 USD. I found it at WalMart. 3. Be extremely patient
Hey...nice video. Yeah, I too had that same issue with the two screws. Do not try to use a screwdriver. First off, you can't get a screw driver in there. Second, the factory has made them so tight, its hard to get them off with a screwdriver, you will strip the screw. Instead use a 8mm socket. Comes off much easier. Great job on the vid. Keep it up.
If anyone is wondering, 01-02 models don't require removal of the trim around the shifter while 03-05 models do, like in the video. 01-02 models just require the removal of the cigarette lighter part to start the disassembling.
thank you so much for this video: i never installed one on a civic and this video really helped me save $200.00 bucks. Easy, just follow your instructions step by step once agian, thank you!! dm Atlanta, ga
I recently bought a double dinn kit for my civic. Nowhere had the harness, Best Buy, RadioShack, Target, Walmart all with no avail. I finally found one on Amazon, might be worth checking it out.
On this year Honda Civic 2004 the rim blocks screws on the trim piece that holds the ac and heater controls. If I recall it has been years since i took mine apart for the new radio. I will be taking it apart this weekend to begin painting my interior black. I did the center console this weekend and it looks great. I changed the silver to gloss black.
Just to clarify, the goal here is to get access to those two "screws" on the underside of the radio/hvac console cluster. I put quotes around "screws" because they are ALSO hex heads. An 8mm socket bit worked on them for me. If you try a screwdriver rather than a ratchet, you likely won't have the clearance to get at them properly (unless you have a very short screwdriver). That's probably why the other video took out the whole center console instead.
All done! A new Alpine is born and OH BOY the difference! I took a grinder to my old well used multitool and made the end look a bit more like the one Joe had with the forked front. IT really does sound horrible at times but other thana few clips getting lost down the hole things went quite well. I took the unit inside and spent some time on the bench making the new head unit sit at the right angle by modifying the metal cage before bolting it in, I also dremeled out a nice pass through in the pocket to store the usb and mic cords behind the dash when not in use. Thanks for your help! It really is a terrific little car isn't it ?
@ Madblaster89 and @ ElQuesoGuapo I'm know I'm probably a little late on this haha BUT I have an 03 Civic I'm about to change Head units on so I'll let y'all know if the screws need to be replaced or not. But Thank you ElQuesoGuapo for clearing this up, I was about to take the entire console out. I have an Auto, But I have a more tedious job of wiring subs along with a new head unit.
@ElQuesoGuapo there was a design change. These steps aren't necessary in at least the '02 model. '02 doesn't have the spring loaded door in front of the shifter.
QUESTION: Once the aftermarket car stereo is installed and if one were to ever change again... all you would need is a stereo removal tool to slide to left & right side of the deck and pull out, right? No need to do all this operation of panel removal and such. ? Right?
I can't upload a video because I don't have that car anymore. The cruise control is a Dakota Digital CRS-300. I've put it on two different cars, and it's been great. I recommend getting the wireless remote control to go with it, so you can have buttons on your steering wheel instead of on your dashboard.
I just swapped one and didn't need to take out any of the center console pieces. Just popped out the stereo and hvac center piece, disconnected all the tabs, wired it up and smacked it back in.
Well, that explains why our shifter light stopped working the day we had our radio installed at Best Buy. I figured the tech had blown the bulb or fuse, but when I opened up the shift panel, the bulb holder was in place and the bulb was completely missing. It just seemed so weird and unrelated at the time.
@socalkid1050 : thanks! I am adding an ipod adapter to the rear of the stereo and wiring it through the dash to the bottom cup holders.. so I dont anticipate that the battery would need to be disconnected
If you're using that tool to grout, you're not grouting right. Perhaps you meant caulk :) Otherwise, thanks. I have an '04 civic that I want to replace the radio on too and appreciate these tutorials.
Had trouble getting screwdriver in to the 2 screws inside above cup holder. But I am tired so I'll try again tomorrow, could possibly explain why he removed the whole console
I know this was 5 years ago and you most likely don’t care anymore but Honda made it so it’s basically layered with trim pieces in order to get to the bottom layer which the radio is
Yes you literally pull the outlet cover and it pops out. Unplug the outlet and put aside. There are 2 screws up in there that holds the climate control/radio in the dash. You take em out and slide the whole thing out of the dash

Used this tutorial about a year ago to install my deck and it still works perfectly thank you very much!

Thank you for demostration, I just replace my gear position indicator bulb
Thank you helped so much ! 🙏
Very nice...heading out back RIGHT NOW!

I'd like to see a video on how you installed the cruise control.
watching this to learn how to remove the center console trim.. painting it with interior paint.. at least the trim pieces

Super helpful. Thanks so much for posting this!
Accidentally lost one of those two black inserts next to the cigarette lighter. What are they called?? Can't find them anywhere online, thanks!
Thanks. This video helped me alot.

Just saw this, was wondering if you could upload a video detailing the aftermarket cruise control

What year was yours? Based on the comments, there was a design change at some point that made the job a lot easier.
I also have a 2002 Civic, I believe Madblaster89 is correct. The cigarette lighter looks vastly different in the 2002 than it does in this video.
Nice short cut! Thanks
thanks el quesoguapo lol this video was really helpful
Doing this this weekend at some point.
Can you supply the link to the manual version? Please

@ElQuesoGuapo Nice job man!
Thanks for this.
Had trouble getting screwdriver in to the 2 screws inside above cup holder. But I am tired so I'll try again tomorrow, could possibly explain why he removed the whole console
Andrew Villaran I also ran into this problem, did you get the screws out without removing the whole center console?
Justin M yes I Used a socket instead of a screwdriver
Time saver!!! Gracias
can you make a video how to remove the knob. civic lx.
I have a 2002 civic. I didn't remove any of that. I removed the part with the cigar lighter without touching anything around the shifter.
Thx for the vid post!!!!
Very good! THANKS!
@ElQuesoGuapo : Did you have to disconnect the battery to change the parts out?
Can i use like a screw driver? (Flat headed Phillipe) and put masking tape on it will it work the same?
So there is no anti theft light anymore?
Thank You!!!
+ElQuesoGuapo
Do you know the other TH-camrs channel because my car has the manual transmission
Thank you sir
Why do you need to remove all the pieces around the shifter for a stereo installation?
I know this was 5 years ago and you most likely don’t care anymore but Honda made it so it’s basically layered with trim pieces in order to get to the bottom layer which the radio is
WHAT ARE THOSE SWITCHES NEXT 2 UR LIGHTER SOCKET?
I got a bit worried about doing this when I saw your finger was all bandaged up!
i'm putting a dvd player radio in my 2004 Honda civic, do you know where I could buy the dash kit to fit it? It looks empty around the dvd :/
I think Crutchfield has some
Is that really an 04 though? I thought 03 and newer civics had updated guages. Not sure if it's from a non-US region.
My ohio made 2004 civic ex looks just like that. :)
WHAT ARE THOOOSEE!!
um could you like take out the section under the radio with the outlet first and go on from there
Yes you literally pull the outlet cover and it pops out. Unplug the outlet and put aside. There are 2 screws up in there that holds the climate control/radio in the dash. You take em out and slide the whole thing out of the dash
In a 2001 you literally just pop out the little cubby with the cigarette lighter and the bolts are right there
hey after putting my custom radio back ,, it didnt come on
Installer error
My uncle is Mechanic and he did not take my gear out the only thing he did was take the back out behind my radio These people doing to much 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
SHORYUKEN!!!

LoL I had mine out and New radio in before you got the screws out
I'm happy for you.
:D
Jajaja ...Elquesoguapo
No need for that tool. Just use your short finger nails and the cigarette lighter can stay plugged in.
