What beautiful singing! This, and Kimba the white lion was my favorite theme songs for my Saturday morning cartoons! However, as a grown woman, “ softness in his eyes, iron in his thighs, virtue in his heart, Fire in every part of mighty Hercules“ hit different!😊😳☺️😁

THANK you so much for posting this. I still remember this from 45 years or so :) ago! Bravo to the songwriter(s) because the tune and many of the words are a fond memory...
I watched this as a kid in the 1960s during its first run. Great memories of a much simpler time that I truly miss. I can not imagine being a kid these days and times. My Internet was the outside and with it and my imagination, bicycle, and BB gun, I was truly blessed!
I remember watching it on Channel 9 CKLW Windsor in Canada (which pursued American viewers across the border back in those times). It aired on the Popeye Show (back during the transition when the Fleisher brothers and Famous studio product was replaced with King's Feature Syndicate's own made-for-TV Popeye cartoons--dating myself a bit here), together with other shows like the Supermarionation Supercar and reruns of TV shows like William Tell and Long John Silver (the latter a followup to the famous Disney Treasure Island movie). Besides Mighty Hercules, Trans-Lux also brought shows to American audiences like Felix the Cat and Speed Racer. (Channel 9 aired a lot of their product like Gigantor and Marine Boy.)
I seriously think this is the most successful theme song of all time. I watched three episodes of this fifteen years ago, when I was like 6, and to this day,out of nowhere the last verse will just pop into my head.
That's exactly why I looked the song up randalthor394. The song popped into my head for no reason and I couldn't remember the exact words to sing. Those around me today will be certain I'm coo coo ;)
randalthor394 This damn song still gets in my head after nearly 50 years. Its just crazy. I don't really remember actually watching the show (I'm sure I must have), but I cannot forget the theme song.
I was also a faithful viewer back in the 60's. Loved the theme song, too. Was just thinking about it and wondered if Johnny Mathis sang it, but no, it was Johnny Nash.
That was nice, but what about the funny part? You know, as this happened virtually every episode. Herc walks along, it seems to me always from left to right on the screen by himself, but maybe either direction. Everything seems sweet and normal. Suddenly. from BEHIND Herc, completely offscreen, Newton cries out "Lookout Herc!!!!" Herc then turns behind to look at Newton, and some object is hurled towards Herc from the direction he was facing before Newton cried out. Resulting, of course, each and every time, in Herc getting hit, whereas if Herc ignored Newton, he probably would had seen it coming. It's bad enough if they did it once, but Herc was so stupid he kept falling for it over many episodes.
I know right. I loved that Cartoon as well as Spiderman. I heard that Hercules had a Twin Brother and I loved at the end when he would shout "Olympia".
I just started watching episodes of this show on youtube. Not only ate they quick and convenient to pass the time, but i LOVE this show! It's simplicity and cute stories are charming. And it gives me an appreciation for how old animation was on TV.
I used to make my sisters laugh when the theme played by changing one of the last lyrics, "Virtue in his heart, fire when he farts! The Mighty Hercules!"
I remembered the Hercules theme song a little differently! Also ridiculous: "Hercules, winner of ancient glories, Hercules, teller of pretty good stories.."
A common misconception. Eleven men would never be able to coordinate an attack on Hercules (or on any one person) so as to bring to bear all their strengths at once -- that is, to combine their strengths. There is simply not enough fighting room immediately adjacent to a single man. Therefore, Hercules should be able to throw off or punch out any 3, 4, or 5 of them at once, at strength odds of at least 2:1 (probably 3:1) in his favor, then turn on the remaining men, group-by-group, at the same odds. Not to mention what would happen to the morale of his 11 assailants were almost half of their number to be taken out in the first few seconds of the encounter -- realistically, the rest would shrink back or flee. Were Hercules to be attacked by a weapon WIELDED by 11 men at once -- say, a battering-ram, to which all their strengths COULD contribute -- things might be different, but he would have to first be immobilized or (unlikely) ambushed for such an attack to succeed. Herc is too smart, agile, swift of foot, and experienced in combat for such a clumsy attack to work. Add in the flying horse he can summon, his bumbling-but-dedicated sidekick Newton, and the couple of magic items he keeps close to him, and it's all over for his opponents. It is not all just a trial of strength-vs-strength; he has other advantages as well, which serve as multipliers to his nominal strength.
I think that’s a reference to the myth of his labors. Trying to cross a desert, he got frustrated enough to shoot an arrow at the sun, which earned him the attention and amusement of the sun god, who lent him his chariot to cross the rest of the distance.
This was the Hercules that I as a child from watching reruns on the Retro TV channel got me inspired to read about the ancient Greek myths. And yet I still can't deny that rocket Robin Hood was actually the better TV show between the two of them. If you don't know who rocket Robin Hood is you really should look it up because it's pretty freaking amazing.
I used to watch the Mighty Hercules on TV in the mid 1960s on Channel 9, KHJ, Los Angeles. My mother told me as Hercules charged his ring and the lightning flashed , I ran from the TV and buried my head in her lap , lol!😂😂
To be fair, Hera was jealous that another woman got Zeus attention. Since Hercules was the one given the most Zeus like power, of all his children She inflicted Hercules with a madness(Drugged) in the Brain. After the Madness had cleared . Hercules , realized what he had done. Thus he fled to seek advisement from the Oracle at Delphi. Which was also under the Control of Hera, unbeknownst to Hercules. So he's given 12 Labors.
Thanks for these postings. Last night was trying to explain this to a friend who watched just about every superhero type cartoon but hadn't seen this. I sang the theme song for him but then wanted a link online, and here it is!
I’d actually only seen this opening once as a kid and not the whole thing either but it was good enough that I still remembered it years later. I rly like the opening tbh. The singer was good to tho its sad to hear he’s dead.
The main fight music used whenever Hercules put on his ring was actually music composed by Hans J. Salter for the movie THE BLACK SHIELD OF FALWORTH which was released on THE CREATURE OF THE BLACK LAGOON CD many years ago.
I listened to an early recording by Nash. His cover of Don Cherry's Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye(done before the Casino's hit) The voice sounded very close to the one heard here. Therefore I must conclude that this is his natural voice, and that for I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW and STIR IT UP, he used a falsetto voice. A LOT of singers can change their voices from time to time.

MMTrigger: Is that where the saying,"I shot an arrow in the air, where it went I know not where!",comes from? Lol
Hercules could've messed that God up, he's Hercules damn it, idk in all seriousness I guess he was lucky wasn't he?
I remember watching the Hercules cartoon series on TV when I was really young. Thank you for posting the opening song!
Saw this growing up
I had the old video collection of this show transfered to dvd. As a kid this show and the Steve Reeves movies inspired me to train for my boxing/gymnastic formative years; growing up in Venice Beach surfing, Jack LaLane on TV, it was a magical time! Cheers!
I wonder why 60s cartoons were so popular in the 80s...
& here in canada 2012 though 2015
when it aired on teletoon retro
Holy...Crap!!! I totally forgot the lyrics to this! I feel like I just jumped in the DeLorean and watched this on TV circa 1973! Thanks for posting this!!
Hercules looks like Superman.
I think that was half the reason why i liked this show as a kid
I didn't realize that Johny Nash sang this theme song. Same guy who had the hit "I can see clearly now" He passed away today. RIP
Hercules full of cheese and baloney
Hercules isn't he a phony
flying through the air--without his underwear
nothing on his butt--you can see his nuts
He's the Mighty Hercules♫
+Rockin Ed Yep...the gayest cartoon theme song ever. I mean, a vocal ringer for Johnny Mathis singing "Softness in his eyes, power in his thighs"?
I agree with you this vocalist sounds exactly like Johnny Mathis...
Rockin Ed
We sang it this way
Hercules, he's a big fat phoney
Hercules made of cheese and baloney
fighting for his life, with a rubber knife
withe the strength of ten plastic army men!
It was sung by a guy that had a couple of pop hits in the sixties.
Iron in his thighs!
Remember everytime Newton went to get Hercules' Bow and Arrow, it was always in the tree, no matter where they were :)
I know everyone says this. But man this brings back sooo many memories I had long since forgotten about. Does anyone remember the Spoof song everyone used to sing. JERKULES....Fighting for his life...With a paper knife. Ahhh the classics.
he has the strength of ten ORDINARY men? that some how doesn't sound impressive
Back in the day it was...
lauchlin yurchuk That still gives him a lifting strength of 1000-1500 lbs. (And, of course, the cartoon wasn't very consistent, so he could usually lift even more)
10 ordinary men without the ring.
Great memories, thanks for posting this. I really enjoyed the animation style of this show.
Thunder in his thighs?!!? How gay.
You betcha!
i thought it was iron in his thighs
tee vee
it is...
Iron - even better.
IKR... The guy who sang it must have been thinking: "Yeah, whatever. Where's my paycheck?"
I use to watch this! *sob* I loved this show. :)
Hercules Votes Trump !
That's the heroic thing to do.
Great theme song!
Holy shit, I've been hearing "Hercules, hero of song and story..." in my head for a very long time. I wasn't sure if it was memory, or imagination. But someone mentioned the name Hercules today, and it popped into my head again. So I thought I'd look it up. Thanx for uploading 100% proof that this cartoon was no figment.
This theme song brings a grown ass man to tears😭 bless the heart of whoever thought to do this👍❤️🔥
