This video came at a great time for me because I have the opportunity to play bass in the annual Prayer Symposium that is happening in Oakland California next month. It's timely because the person who suggested I play bass with him mentioned me playing a sitar part of a song and I had no concept of how to do that until now. Yo Marcello, what brand and gauge strings do you use. Awesome bass dude. I've spent hours listening to your wizardry! I played for 16 years and then got side tracked by a thang call multiple marriages and 4 kidz...1982 - 2013. I just picked up the bass again after 31 years. I feel like a beginner. I have a modulus graphite neck custom bass with bartolinis it was made for me in 82. My technique is so weak I'm using 115 95 75 60 40 primarily cuz they are easy on my finger strength. Awesome stuff, I'm getting my choppers back listening to your and watching your impeccable technique.. Shalom
Hi Daniel! Thank you for the compliments and for watching my videos. I'm glad to hear you picked up the bass again and that my videos are helping! I use DR strings, gauge 45 65 85 105 125. The thicker the gauge, the more low-end you'll get and in my opinion, thin gauges provide too thin of a sound for slap, especially if you're going for that Marcus Miller tone. So you may eventually want to work up to a thicker gauge, however, it is all personal preference. Hope that helps!

I want to get mine bit lower, but everyone says I'm crazy for this haha. it's currently about 5/64ths of an inch (2mm) at the 12th fret from the bottom of the string to the top of the fret.. Do you know yours approx?
I think it's drop D as he's hitting higher D string often as prime, and I also saw that MM tunes the E string before playing blast. However I'd rather use 5 string bass for that to get the low D.

There is an on board preamp which comes with the MM Jazz Bass. You can get them from a company called John East who make the same preamp!

It is the bass. It is Marcus Miller signature bass. Check out Marcus Miller and same song ( Monte Carlo with orchestration is great ), same sound.
