  • Today I take a look at my Innocenti S Spyder that has been sitting on my shelf of cars for years. It is time to fix the fuel tank and see if it runs with all the changes.

    I'd like to see how you go about cleaning the tank.

    She is spluttering a bit but she is running. A little more tweaking and it will be fine. The fuel tank looks really 'crusty' but as long as the metal is not too thin from rust it will be serviceable. Thanks Steve keep going with this one. 👍👍

    I’m finding the innocenti videos really useful… I have a mkIII midget that will need all of this work addressed… I’m interested to see what you do with the petrol tank.

    Ace to see this car coming along. I never knew you could bleed the fuel system like that, really handy tip! I'll need to employ that on my Sprite as the fuel pump was ticking like mad even though I just changed a couple of fuel lines. Definitely enough in the tank before anyone asks! Keep up the great content on this car.

    A very good series on how to methodically bring back a long sitting car, unlike some. An awful lot of rust on the undercarriage, seems like a big problem?

    The way it keeps popping back through that one carb it might have a sticky intake valve.

      I have this problem on my Sprite, one carb keeps backfiring. Any handy tips, guides or videos you could share on how to fix a sticky intake valve?

    Very rare car well worth restoring. The Innocenti 950 was launched at the November 1960 Turin show, but series production only began in 1961. A total of 4,790 Spiders (950's) were manufactured up until February 1963, when the Innocenti 'S' was introduced with an 1100cc engine, disc brakes and revised rear suspension.

    Excellent perseverance. She'll get there. I'm always amazed at how cars seem to _want_ to run.

    Sounds like the timing may be way out? Also, looks like the front seal on the differential is leaking.

    Looks like a nice simple old machine to work on , with a familiar old British A series engine . Those Su carbs are dry as a bone in the dash pots by the looks of it .

      Theres a very interesting fast motion video here on YT of a Sri Lankan teenager disassembling, renovating and reassembling an 'A series' engine from a Minor, many of which still running in Sri Lanka, over 50 years from manufacture! Seems not only are all parts still available for the car, but 'A series' engine parts have 100% availabilty too.

    How much is a replacement fuel tank, if it is available? That one looks as though it will take a lot of work to raise it merely to "gross", never mind "serviceable", and time is money.
    Its contents probably should feed your lawnmower, after careful straining.

      £234 from AHSpares for mk2-4 Sprites, £330 for MK1.

    Why does the starter "cut out" after a few seconds? Sounds like only the solenoid is engaged and not the bendix (after a few seconds). My Jaguar MK2 does this.

    • @ThisWeekWithCars
      @ThisWeekWithCars  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      On most British cars the starter is designed to stop when it detects the engine is starting. It does make it harder to start a car when it is cold or not running right.
