It makes the same sort of racket at mine does, which I think is due to worn splines.
New clutch plates are still available from Harrison spares specialists, but they wanted to rip me off for about 100 quid a pair. However got some from a machinery dealer in Bradford, (Eversion Brothers),who used to advertise in Model engineer, to around 20 quid. They had plenty in stock. This was about 10 years ago.
The thing which controls the brake appears to be a brass ring inside the headstock. This is shot on mine and I need to make a new one. Might get it sorted during lockdown.
    Cheers.

It is most often the 2 bronze plates chattering on the 6 drive pins that makes all the racket. Nearly as bad as Ducati dry plate clutch.

My L6 had clutch issues when I bought it, no drive at all. I found that the pin that goes through the input shaft had been replaced with a real bodged repair and the clutch adjustment meant that there was no pressure to the friction plates. I managed to adjust it by tightening the adjusting ring so that it gives drive. But the brake is not very effective and the clutch drags, letting the spindle rotate a bit (not ideal). I plan to do a proper repair on it very soon. I'll post a video when i get into it.

The bronze clutch plates sticking together is a common problem with these lathes. It is most often caused by oil contamination on the plates which thickens with dust and sticks the plates together. Harrison's owners manual recommends the clutch should be striped and degreased every 6 months.
