    Lines like rods are a subjective choice with just soo many variables to take in. What are your objectives and purpose for that line? Distance, profile, presentation of what types of fly. Are you needing inch perfect on target short range casts on a chalk stream. Or to cover multiple situations from a boat on say Rutland. What is the experience and skill level of the angler. Combine with even slightly different rod actions. Ten different anglers with similar or widely different experience/skills could and would find completely different responses and reactions. Yes a nightmare. Your approach to this problem was right on the money. From a good experience and skill set. Multiple lines on different rods. With multiple anglers. All gave their honest and unbiased opinions. Overall this was one of the best reviews I have ever seen on this platform. I found it a refreshing change from the oh look at me buy this adverts. Just a guy who loves fly fishing with good friends, just enjoying the day by the water. A great way to show everything positive about our beautiful sport.

      Hi Michael, its been a while. But very nice to hear from you again. Hope your keeping well. Yes like most things fishing, a lot of if's and buts. To be honest when trying these things its good to have the boys around. No good me doing this on my own, as I cast and fish differently to most. And like you say we are all different. But I think most people will be happy with this line. What is the best line out there. Its the one you are most happy with. Thanks for another amazing comment. Take care Michael. Shaun.

      Thanks Sean, bit like me watching your channel. Just spent 5 days on a lake fly fishing and one of the boys Sam does a lot of pike fishing. Told him about your channel and about all the jigs you use. Was telling him about the ice fishing you were doing. He would love to do that he said. But we don't get ice like that. Thanks again mate. Catch up soon.Shaun.

    Bought one of the floating lines from rede river a couple of months ago. Have used it on three trips , the best one to Ellerdine fishery. I can cast approximately 28 yards at the moment and it shoots out beautifully. Took 7 fish on it at Ellerdine,, I am really impressed. When I need a new line it will definitely be from rede river.

      I have no doubt as regards the performance of the Rede River line. It fishes really well too. And at this price I am happy to replace every year. Bare in mind I fish a lot. Sounds like Ellerdine is fishing well. Us boys are looking forward to our next trip there. Thanks for the comment Sam. Every comment helps the channel. Take care mate. Shaun.

    Following watching this first time round tried to order the Rede River line, but found they had sold out. Power of UTube !! However wasn’t long before they had some more in and I bought one. Used it a couple of times now and really pleased with it, as it does what you said it does and is half the price I paid for my last line. I have also purchased hooks from this company and they have been very good also. Please keep making the videos as they are really helpful.

      For the money its great. We have no idea how long they last mind. I have been made aware of a few niggles. But for the thousands that have been sold, it is a very low number. Very normal in this market. We have been messing around with a load of different tippet materials. Looking for that bargain. But we have got nowhere with it. Honestly its a mind field. But we have discovered paying big money on those big brand names. You ain't getting your moneys worth. But leaders, the boys and myself use the snowbee tapered braid. Some people don't like them, or more to the point don't understand the benefits. The one we use most is the intermediate. Slow sink some times and floater some times. But never the sink one. The sink one is pointless. I do mention the benefits to using these at times. They can help with turn over being they are tapered. And when we have flat calm, they help get the tippet under the surface. And can save on buying a sink tip. But there is a lot of reasons why we would want a leader. Hope this helps Brain. Take care mate. Shaun.

    I've been using the Rede River line on both 6# and 7# for around a year now, I've had to replace the welded loop which originally came on the 6# with Roman Moser loops but the 7# came with an exposed loop. The line is still looking good, no cracks and performing just as well as the first day I used it!

      Its crazy that a line this good and for that money has not had the publicity it deserves. Myself and the boys had never heard of Rede River. But we are very happy to know of it now. Myself and the boys have hammered the line for the past few weeks now, and it is a great line. Actually I am ordering one for myself. I think it will be a great line for the buzzers as its memory is so good. And I straight line. Great comment Simon, and I hope you get many more fishing trips with your lines. Oh watch out for our tippet recommend if it works out. We have been trying it out for the last week or so. So far so good. Great price too. Take care mate. Shaun.

    Enjoyed that, Shaun. I’m so glad you enjoyed the line. I knew you would anyway after a few casts of it myself, it just felt great. You’re right, it just comes in a small bag on the spool, no box. I’m taking it to Pennine on Thursday so hoping to test it with some big fish. I also use 6 weights all the time, they’re the sweet spot for me. I have a 10ft 7w for Brenig but I mostly fish with Greys GR60 9’6 6weights. All the best, mate. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

      We have cast and fished this line for the last few weeks. and it has had a real good hammering. We were on an international water for 5 days last week and the line was no problem. To be honest all the boys wanted to fish with it. I never fished with it once. And when it comes to rods, my experience of 5 and 6# rods was old rods. to soft. These modern mid range and higher are just amazing. Even thou I have my McKenzie, I go for the Hardy Demon 9' sintrex 330 nearly every time. The boys and myself even rate this more than the upgrade Hardy ultra light. BC I have to thank you again mate, for the recommend. You will make a lot of people happy. Thank you and take care mate. Hi Mike this is not unusual, but strange. I often put Fly Fishing UK and Still Waters. I have had several people say they have only just found the channel, and that they nearly always put in this heading. But it appears TH-cam would rather my videos be somewhere else. This is very annoying as I can not target where the video goes for the people who would like to watch. As I am on here now I will tell you that this channel does not post on a weekly period. I would love to, but can't. But anything that goes out will be honest and the best I can do at the time. It will improve as I learn editing and photography. I have been Fly Fishing for nearly 50 years and have used most makes of lines in all their guises. I am currently looking for a DI5 line. Hi Mike, in my experience we don't have half the problems with sink lines as we do floating lines. I my self don't use sink lines. But Justin and a good few of the boys use Airflow. If I was to need a sink line this is where I would start looking. Justin him self has several of these lines. And being that he is a welsh International I would guess he has the most experience, as these lines are used often from the boat. Sorry I can't be more exact. Take care. Shaun.

Very few reviews seem to mentiion this, and as you say it can make a huge difference when loading the rod. As for possible future reviews in the budget class, is the hype around the Maxcatch Gold fly line really warranted? Take care mate and keep those videos coming. There are many people who appreciate them :)

      Hi David, I can't believe so many have this line, and yet the boys and myself knew nothing of this line. Nice line mate. I know I should have done something on the maxcatch. Not sure which it is that one of the boys has. I did try it on his rod which is the vision onki. The line was ok, but just like a lot of the lines out there. Top heavy. It did not have the same feel. Far too many people are to keen to reach distance without learning to cast, and the manufacturers are on it. Producing lines to overload the rod for the purpose of getting the fist 60 to 70'. And they all think its amazing. No wonder this country is in such a mess. So many people only consider the cast, and forget about the fishing. Sorry got carried away there. So we were on the line. I will ask Arran which line it is. And give it another go, as I can't really remember much. But it did not get me. Not like this Rede line. Catch up soon mate. Take care David. Shaun.

      Great response Shaun. Totally agree about the hype around distance. Learning to cast and presentation are vital. Back to the Rede River line. Is it best suited to a fast tip action rod in your opinion? Also why is there no wf#5 do you think? Take care Shaun :)

    • @shaunfishes101
      @shaunfishes101  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@outdammspot Most definitely the fast tip. This line is fine on a mid tip. As I said before most lines now are over weight, and this line is no different. But its not as over weight as most. This extra weight is working the rod to hard, for a mid tip. The tip action has more beef to cope. A lot of manufacturers are now stating for a fast tip. As they know its over weight. Justin summed it up in the video with his impression of the rod and the Infinity smooth. At some point there is going to be a lot of unhappy people struggling to cast as they have mid tip rods. Which is the go to rod for the novice. choosing a fly line has always been tricky. But its going to be a lot harder, as we try to work out what weight this line really is. But for this line mid tip fine, fast better. And Rede River are moving into 4 and 5# lines soon. Have you heard of Bloke rod blanks before. Its just because they are about to launch these rods at some point. I have heard they are pretty good.

      It is rare to find a true to weight line these days now. So many people can't be bothered to learn casting. And think they are doing well when they put a line on that is miles over the rod rating. I am amazed to see so many on youtube also that struggle to cast a decent line. Manufacturers are aware of this, and you can't blame them for making these lines. they sell. Thanks for the comment. I will have a look at these lines. Do they fish as good as they cast.

      @@shaunfishes101 I agree! I believe it’s a general misunderstanding about casting as well. They fish brilliantly, it’s my primary fishing line. The front taper allows you to present a wide range of flies, which is excellent. It has a long head (58’) which casts into the wind exceptionally well and is very good at speys, presentation casts/mends and of course, distance. To get the best out of it you need to be carrying around 80’ with speed. My other favourite line is the scientific anglers mastery distance, probably the best overhead line in the world. Great videos, Shaun. They are fantastic!

      @@shaunfishes101 No problem! I think you’ll really like it. I have a couple of Rio SHS lines, but they are all overweight. The ‘#5’ is a true #7 for example. They are exceptional for Spey casting, just like the Wulff TT nymph and others, but you can Spey cast any line. The Ballistic Pro Performance is actually one of the best for doing everything. The overhang can be extended with the Rio SHS, which as you know gives you a longer flight time, but there is a limit as the head is short. They do go a decent way, 100’ + (I haven’t actually measured down a tape measure with this one). They aren’t the best casting into the wind, or when it’s flat calm though. Great videos by the way! Take care.

It won't be for a while, as it takes a bit of time to try it out with all the boys and we have so much going on at the moment. If we were all retired it would be great. But just to say if the line was so good it would have been on the channel. A lot of people only judge a line on how easy they can cast the first 50'. A line is for fishing. And why a product may not go onto the channel, is simply because I don't want to put any negative on any business. We do get asked to review products, and I always tell them that these reviews are Honest and if there are any negatives we will high light these points. It is then there choice.

    Nice one for that shaun . I bought the floating line after your review and have to say its a brilliant line im pairing it up with the airflo stik m2 the problem i have is the rod is a 7/8 weight would you buy the 7 or the 8 weight line ?

    • @shaunfishes101
      @shaunfishes101  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot depends on your casting. The 8# could be a bit heavy and aggressive, but will load the rod a lot faster. The 7# will be a bit more delicate and easy going. So many people think that a line size up gives you bigger casts. It makes casting the first 2/3rds easy, but the rod will struggle to push enough energy all the way through that line for a bigger cast. Line size down and your rod has plenty of energy to push bigger distances. So you know what I am going to say. Yes. Definitely the 7#. Enjoy your casting Jon. Shaun. Oh just to mention, most lines now are over weight. This Rede line is nearer 7# than most lines today.
