Great video Al, Screwfix do tap reviver kits made by pearl. You get 2 new glands and new handles in a box with a conversion kit. I just replaced my bath and basin ones which were the standard 3/4" fit had a mare getting the old tap tops off though the screws were seized so they rounded ! So bought a Dremell to cut those off. Then the bloody tap tops were stuck on the splines, so had to buy a puller on line to get them off. Then the glands on the bath were the push fit washer type that came off when I took them out ( and I was being clever not turning the water off so got soaked getting them out with the daughters tweezers! 😂 ) then one of the rougue washers got stuck in the shower diverter! ( No worries as the diverter washer needed changing and I've done this before, but the brass nut split when I put the new washer on 🥴 back to Screwfix ( by now a soaked nervous wreck in need of alcohol 🍻) finally new glands in diverter refitted new handles on ( with a lot of copper grease on those damn splines for the next man ! ) moral of the story just get a plumber in 😂👍
This brings back memories of playing with taps. I was lucky to get them off without issues. Soft brass mmm sounds like Chinese crap stuff again. I try to avoid buying Chinese rubbish all the time. Could you make video on replacing the seals inside the head please. Thank you for your video. Keep them coming. Cheers David
Another way to hold the tap to stop it spinning round is to get a piece of 32mm or 40mm pvc waste pipe and put it over the tap spout. The longer the piece of pipe the greater the leverage.
Cheers Al.... I bought a new set of valves like in the video,,,,and they come in 8, 9 and 10mm I later learnt that it was the toothed spidle end length they were talking about,,,the bit that the actual lever / cap (the bit you twiddle) fits on to and not its diameter,,, and for the £6 or £8 the pair cost to renew,,,there is no point in re-inserting the damaged thread/head back in to the tap. Oh ...put the plug in the basin/sink...so the screw to remove the tap twiddly bit doesn't end up down the drain.
Unfortunately if the adjustable spanner won't shift it and just rounds the edges, then there is really no chance of the grips getting it off either. I have exactly this problem with my bath taps and I am going to try and get a ring spanner that fits exactly and use a long extension to try and shift it. In my limited experience adjustable pliers, grips and mole wrenches are pretty useless at shifting siezed nuts.

See what I can do David.
@dereton33 Thanks you my friend
Great advice and tips. Greatly appreciated
My pleasure!
I use a Milwaukee 3/8 impact wrench with a deep socket, works every time.
Thanks great advice.

Nice one Steve.

The tap spanner trick seems handy do you reckon with a cloth and some water pump pliers to hold the tap that would prevent it spinning round
Yes a good method.

They do have there limitations.
Could you do a video about Plumbers Gold?
I've always used LS-X in the past but I've seen videos of plumbers recommending Plumbers Gold sealent.
Will do.
Good info ut please it's "top off taps" not " top off of taps." Too much American "English" creeping into our language.
Altered already.
