  • Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester (IH) and currently owned and manufactured by MTD.
    Some Images were used from the Wisconsin Historical soscity ,the Internet, and some of my own personal pictures and video
    During the 1960s IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners of increasingly popular rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available, including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc.

    Clicking on this I didn’t have any idea that I would get emotional. Put together a collage of pictures and a good country song behind it and I’ll be sure to find a way to tear up. Companies now sure ain’t like IH

    I have these brochures. I worked at International Harvest at the Research and Development Center in Hinsdale, Illinois started as a technical writer in 1966. My father worked there also and had a 1964 model Cub. Huge place hundreds of acres right across the street from our house. The brochures need to be with someone who can appreciate them.

    I have 3 mowers, a Murray 12 from Wally World back in 1992, a 1972 Sears Custom 10xl (this things a hot rod), and my '71 narrow frame 147. These Cub Cadets were the best mowers ever made when they were owned by IH. I got it for a steal (450 bux) and I'm about to do a full resto using PPG Deltron. My buddy owns a paint and body shop so it will be shot by a pro like my Custom 10XL was. The Murray, yea I know its a Murray but they make a great beater. Friends don't let friends ride John Deere.

      anything with an IH logo on it. i have a 1948 farmall cub, its amazing how much work it still does even at 70 years old still reliable and will still do everything that i ever throw at it. plowing 2 feet of snow..... no problem..... mowing the lawn from spring to fall with a 60" mower, no problem. i have owned it 3 years and i probably spent less then $200 in repairs besides normal fluids

    I must admit I was really not aware of this little tractor. I am a Ferguson / Massey-Ferguson guy, and have several of them back in Norway. I can not bring any of them here to California because we have no room for them. But the Cub Cadet could probably be a nice thing to have in the backyard. What a wonderful little tractor. I showed some movies to my wife, and she commented, "baby tractor" and her eyes lit up. lol I see that Massey Ferguson have a lawn / garden tractor too, but it does not tickle me like the Cub Cadet.

    Bought my house on three acres about 6 years ago & found a '72 149 in pristine condition. It's identical to the 149 my grandfather mowed over 5 acres with for over 25 years. Both properties have alot of uneven ground and large ponds. I take good care of her and she never misses a beat. BEST thing? My neighbor bought a new MTD same year I bought my '72. He has less ground than I do and yeah, his shiny new MTD is DONE & he's shopping for a new machine... Priceless.

      What I've said all along about the MTD junk. Gives the good Cub Cadet tractor name a bad reputation.

    now i am running a 1948 farmall cub and i love it. awesome little tractor. hardcore little machine. my stepfather has a 149 cub cadet. i had the 147 cub sold it, i really didnt need it and didnt have the time and money to sink into it. im really loving the cub with it's extra weight, power, hydraulic touch control, fuel efficiency and fuel tank size, liquid cooled engine that can be run hard for hours in the hottest weather without getting overheated, tall ground clearance that wont get stuck easily, and better parts availability due to the explosion of the aftermarket for cubs. either way you cant loose with an old school IH

    Just picked up a 127 at auction for $350 with a snowblade chains and 48" deck, It looks like a heap from the outside but under the hood and the drivetrain is all brand new pretty much, used it in these past 2 snow storms and it did great in mine and my neighbors driveways.

    My dad owned one and there were 4 of us boys who drove it over the years and let me tell you that we ran it as hard as we could and it never broke down or had any problems with it we mowed a bunch of land with it when he decided to trade it for a new one he got more on the trade in than he gave for it new the new one was never as good at the one he bought in the 60s

    • @ad356
      @ad356 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      people call the new cub cadets cub's lol. do they even know what a real cub is? i will give you a clue. its a 4 cylinder C60 flathead 4 cylinder powered machine. it can handle a 60" deck despite only being under-rated at 12 hp. it was also produced before the cub cadet was thought of, my tractor is a 1948 and cub cadet name didnt exist until 1961. mtd is the worst disposable pieces of crap ever built. people call them cub's lol. just a little history lesson, the original cub cadet got its name cub cadet because IH came up with it by taking the farmall cub transmission and putting it into a small frame...... hence cub cadet. that transmission is bigger then the rest of the tractor on the early models lol. great machines and history indeed. shameful what it is now

    just bought me a 147 today, i paid 165 bucks. WHAT A STEAL. its kinda of a heap now but its goin' to be wonderful. the engine was rebuilt 5 years ago and the prevous owner screwed up the crankshaft. it has very very low hours after the rebuild. he didnt put a set screw in the crankshaft and messed up the keyway. he took it apart 5 years ago and never put it back together. mtd cub cadets are horrible but these things are awesome. how the mighty have fallen!!!
