I agree with most of your sentiment. My only issue is with the term "toxic masculinity". That term is also part of the problem. Men are vilified for simply being men. Broadly labeling male trails as toxic just reinforces that men don't matter.

i agree. mat using that term "toxic masculinity " is why i thumb down. there's a time and place for feelings. when there's a problem, crying bout it won't help(unless ur a woman, then simps white-knight). sometimes the time and place to do feelings are rare or nonexistent. whose fault is it when a man doesn't feel safe or secure in sharing feelings in his relationship or friend group. many women have a tendency to become unattracted to their men when they show weakness, and many times they classify men having emotion as a weakness (the exception being sadness at death of family or loved pet). but if this is called toxic femininity, there'd be an uproar from the feminists.
It's a song not an autobiography. However, the Poet DAX has had personal experiences that he draws from. He has been transformed and his new songs are from a Spiritual awakening.

I started out the opposite of you, i found out the hard way that when you show emotions as a man to a spouse they usually start seeing you as not a man. 90% of women who out earn men file for divorce statistically so if you are surviving this then you are in the minority. This song is 100% true about modern society. Yes my ex wife left me for another man in the end.

As a war veteran I shed a tear listening to this yet masculinity isn't about suppressing emotions but taking responsibility
I grew up with someone in the military and all he did was raise me with toxic masculinity. And if I didn’t comply to his liking I got my ass kicked. Physical assault to get what you want out of someone IS toxic masculinity.

Love that ya'll reacted to this. As a father, a husband, a son, a brother, and a man, i learned it's not about hiding my emotions; it's about learning when it's ok to let these emotions out because not every situation where you let your emotions control you helps. It's sometimes very necessary to be strong for your family and find ways to solve the problem of losing your job, losing your home, losing your kids; sometimes it just doesn't help to express our rage, our sorrow, our grief, because it doesn't help the situation. It's tough when people think this is toxic in being a man instead of being stoic as a man. (Not talking about ya'll, just the general hate on men lately in this day and age). We've gone from being ignored by society with our feelings to now being pinpointed as evil or toxic because of our stoichism to get things done. Just my two cents; again, I appreciate ya'll reacting to this song. It's a phenomenal song about men.

But it is just a more tolerable noise if it says nothing.
A more tolerable vibration if it does not make one feel something.
It would be so easy for Dax to make music that is not important, that does not use his platform to give amplification to small voices.

I've noticed that in most of the reactions to this song the women say men need to stop hiding their emotions. That's essentially saying it's our fault. Dax is right. They don't understand. We feel expendable and we just have to suck it up until a better provider comes along or we die.
Not to mention that as soon as you show emotion or vulnerability, instantly those same women get turned off.

Great reaction I was very lucky to have a Dad who was my sun and moon he gave me the Best advice,,, A man is not scared of anything he is not scared of any man, women or beast not scared to cry Infront of people not scared to show his feelings Infront of his wife or children not scared to shout out as loud as he can that he loves his wife and kids and friends not scared what people think what people say a real man is not scared of anything I have lived by this advice for 58 years all my kids and grandchildren also live by this advice to where my grandson at the age of 14 come out and said he was gay and he said it with no stress and my son and me are so proud of him live your truest self and never be scared.

Men brutalize each other non stop. Im a journeyman plumber and it was hell just getting that ticket. Ultamateley, men are judged by their ability to make money and provide. And you get no respect if you cant measure up. Life is hard and there is a sacrifice along the road. My dad was in and out of jail my whole life, Im the generational curse kid with severe PTSD and Borderline from watching him brutalize mom as a 7 -9 yr old.

I agree with the part about being a Man does not mean not to express emotion. But I am also aware that if I have doubts and worries and voice them it impacts my wife's mental health because then she is more worried just knowing that I am worried too... Its hard to explain, but its like trying to balance on a tight rope. Sharing some minor things while holding in others that I know would impact the families mental state. For me its not always as straight forward as sharing how I feel or what I am going through. Because doing so then affects them as well and I do not want that. Sorry for rambling this song just brings out a lot of emotions lol :)

As a man I can’t cry around other people, because it shows weakness, it shows vulnerability, and if the people around me see that they will try to take advantage. I can never lower my guard. Everything in this world is always out to get you you can never allow yourself to be vulnerable even for a second or you’ll pay the price for it.
I only found this song recently as a suicide survivor this hits really deep at my lowest I lost everything I lost who I was I could never show my true feelings. never thought I could turn to any of my friends for help I lost my girlfriend at the time because I was hiding myself when things got bad I seen this as my only way out thankfully I got the help I needed but unfortunately it’s starting to feel the same again almost as no one cares about me.

I gave you a thumbs down. It's a powerful song that speaks to every man who listens to it. You missed the mark with the song. Toxic masculinity is not real. Being an asshole or narcissist is something different don't get that confused with masculinity.
Being masculine is about being a man and all the responsibility that goes with that. We are told its toxic by selfish people who want to see men fail. To make men weak. Masculine Men should lead the family, be good husbands, fathers and providers. Modern society hates that and therfore hates men. In the song the man working his ass off and struggling wih life is not respected by society, women, their own spouse and sometimes children. Wives leave and take the children because "you work too much you have not time for me" , "i feel neglected" , "your not taking care of me like you should". All while you are doing all you can with zero support. Your expected to have the answers and if you don't your seen as a failure by your spouse. Men have very few if anyone to talk about the hard times with. It can't be the wife they abandon husbands look at the divorce rate.
I love your reaction. I have kids divorced from that narcissistic mother. That kind of person is really hard to deal with. You can't show no emotion in front of that kind of person. She cheated I caught her but even in that situation nobody really wins. My lawyer eat her alive but my kids didn't understand so they chose to stay with her. So like Dax said nobody cares about your feelings. But I made it work. Of course with no help but I keep the peace, and the peices of our 16 years of living together in my heart. Toxic masculinity is no match for God
As men we cry out to God, we give him all our fears, all our weaknesses that we rightfully hide from our families. Your wife and children need you to be unbreakable but you're not.. that's when God is there to pick up the pieces. God is your source, your love, your strength, he shall strengthen you when you are weak. God makes us the men our loved ones need.
Honestly, as a man it’s not about sharing your emotions. It’s about just understanding that both women and men go through stuff. We don’t need to make men more like women or women like men, but understanding each others story goes a long way to working well together for a good life. Happily married for 14 years. I appreciate my wife 1000%
Masculinity, in and of itself, is not toxic. There are toxic people who may be masculine, feminine, or whatever they identify as.

Ya had me till you started saying "Toxic Masculinity". No such thing. There is nothing toxic about being a man. The bad stuff (toxic) is not being a man and never has been. That phrase is a large part of why that song hits so hard for so many of us. It makes those of us who struggle feel that unappreciation at that much more just for trying.

So I just wanted to say my opinion on something real quick, I don't believe in toxic masculinity. Men are healthier in their masculine. I think there is a healthy and an unhealthy way for expressing/suppressing your emotions as a man but it's just a matter of finding the right way for you, it might not be the same for everyone. When I was severely depressed I didn't believe that it could be as easy as a on and off switch, but it kinda was, I don't have the same issues that I had 2 years ago, I very rarely get that hopeless depressed feeling. I didn't go to therapy and I didnt talk to anyone. I think something that contributed to it was raising my testosterone levels and that could be whats causing mens mental health issues is lower T levels. My mental health got better around the time I was using goli ashwagandha gummies, it could have been a number of things that helped but this is conjecture.

It’s weird i have had a completely different experience…I’ve never once been ridiculed by another man for showing emotion, unless it’s just a random bully…but those exist with both men and women. I’ve always heard women say men should be more in touch with their emotions, but every time I’ve done that around a woman it was used against me and the majority of guys I know share the same experience. If you talk to older men about it they say the same shit. Idk that’s just my observation based on my experience, so just a subjective anecdote I guess
I was married to a women and she never showed her emotions and I never thought I could really cry or ever feel vulnerable. But at times I want to break down and just let it out. But I felt like I never could.
I don't agree with the toxic masculinity part, but I agree with a lot of what you guys said.
As men, yes, it's important to find emotional outlets, and it's great to have friends to lean on when you have to, but as men, we have to bust our asses off to be providers for our family.
I think what the song is saying is in general, society don't give a shit about men.
If we don't work and improve and provide, no woman will give us the time of day, and other guys won't respect you.

But this world is dark, and it's men who hold steady and strong when the wife and kids need a solid rock. When children are unsure about life, they lean on the unwaivering stability of a man's strength. U can't be vulnerable and also be the source of strength, it just doesn't work like that

I quit a job cuz I got called a p***y for being late taking my kids to school cuz my wife was sick one morning and couldn’t get out of bed. My dad told me it takes a man to cry and show pain. And I’m still not the best at it.
You guys are awesome! I am one of the people who was taught to not cry around people who are looking up to you. My girlfriend is much younger than me and she has a 7 year old son. When he told me he loved me and started calling me dad that was the closest I ever came to crying in front of them. They’ve never seen me cry and they never will. And it’s not about toxic masculinity. It’s about being their leader and who they can depend on and who knows I’ll take care of them. What if we went to war and the president was on tv and he was crying and being like “we’re screwed guys and I don’t know what to do”. You wouldn’t feel safe. That’s why I believe as a guy you can’t cry in front of the people who look up to you as a leader. I’m not saying don’t ever cry. Sometimes I pull over on my way home from work just to deal with my emotions but then I dry those eyes and come home and be the strong leader of our home. What women would feel safe and secure if her man was always crying over every little thing? I’m the one my girl buries her head into my chest and she cried and I care for her. Not the other way around because I’m the spiritual leader of our household.
Your missing the point. We are who we are, You cant take masculinity out of us. He’s not saying we mind the grid & work or have the need to start crying about everything. Just a little understanding and gratitude would be nice.

Such a great reaction. I completely understand the whole toxic masculinity thing. Playing individual sports my whole life. As a little kid the coaches tell me, it’s just you, you need to be mentally tough, you cannot show emotion. Then mixed into men don’t show emotion. Well as a kid I’m not told that playing sports with emotion more times than not is problematic. Therefore a boy can’t separate the situations and they believe in all facets of life that they’re not to show emotion and not talk about anything. That messed me up for a long time. Repressing emotions and pretending they don’t exist leads to only a couple outcomes and none of them are good

I call bull that you guys dont tell your kids to stop whining and crying about things, especially things that as a adult you may find not worth crying about- but thats cause your parents or someone gave you that structure to know the time, place, and manner to express yourself. its not "toxic masculinity" to have emotional structure enough to be able to learn to get what you need on your own or with others. You can still cry and moan about it while you are trying to solve the problem, but you need structure, both males and females. You wont learn how to stand on your own 2 feet or in society if you are allowed to cry about everything anything any time and any place you want...
It's not that it's toxic, it's just our role and we have to deal with it as a man. I just think that men are expendable or that's how society feels towards men. No one gives a fuck about us, thats why we have to obtain our value. That's the real sad truth.
