  • You know the Mona Lisa, but do you know WHY you know the Mona Lisa?
    "Vincenzo Peruggia (8 October 1881 - 8 October 1925) was an Italian museum worker, artist, and thief, most famous for stealing the Mona Lisa from the Louvre museum in Paris on 21 August 1911."

    I saw the Mona Lisa in 2003 and you could get pretty close to it, no wood just a velvet rope. It was really unimpressive in person haha, the colors were very dark, apparently the paint has oxidized over the years, and quite small. The most impressive painting I saw in person was Dali's "Crucifixion" or Christ of Saint John on the Cross. It has the same optical illusion effect as the Mona Lisa's eyes but it is actually cool, saw it in Glasgow in 2009.

I thought it was pretty cool. His family changed the spelling to "Ferruggia" at some point, pronounced with an "F" instead of "P". As soon as I seen Pablo's picture pop up I immediately thought, "Oh Hell, he's going to try to say the entire name of that guy" ... Good work! I had an art teacher that was so enamored with Picasso that he announced that he would give extra credit for anyone who could say his entire name in one go without botching it at all. No one in a class of 33 got extra credit...
    I love the out takes of that as well, It really shows how much effort you put in to just one little nuance of a part of a video. Which if ya think about it really makes one understand just how much MORE effort was put into an ENTIRE video! The art work on your end was pretty intensive on this one. Almost right up there with the creek drawing where that moron bank robber tried digging it out for a jet ski lol. The new style is good. Different. I like the personability of when your on there talking to us as well. Maybe if you could combine the two, kinda like the History Guy does?

What's funny is that everyone is so crazy about it (in photos you can see that), yet no one pays attention to all the other art works around them in the same room. MONA LISA and Me. The only upside of quadriplegia is getting your own wheelchair to ride around in - which is actually quite fun - and also gets you occasional access, like free entry to La Louvre, which is a building apparently designed by someone with a stair fetish. Anyway, in 2007 the wooden barriers were not yet in place, just a red rope hung on brass stands. Cutting a long story short, the guards charmingly removed said barrier and parked by directly in front of it. Realizing this was an extraordinary privilege - and just compensation for the many unnecessary stair cases - I felt duty bound to study it in detail. Having spent an appropriately long time dissecting the thing inch by square inch - metaphorically of course, I'm not Banksy - I can offer these 2 conclusions. Firstly, it's overhyped. Whilst the provenance is interesting, the actual brushwork in crude and bland; far from Leo's best. Secondly, it is absolutely, positively, a self-portrait of LDV in drag.

    I remember visiting the Louvre in 2010. I literally couldn't get within 20 feet of the Mona Lisa because of the insane crowds around it. It was kinda pathetic actually. There were much more impressive works of art in that museum that the Mona Lisa.

  • @purplehaze2358
    @purplehaze2358 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    To be fair, considering it wasn't _the_ famous painting at the time it was stolen, it very well may not have been truly "priceless" at the time. Still an all-around dumb plan, but there's a possibility it wasn't _that_ dumb.

  • @lavasharkandboygirl9716

    So I originally thought “how could you steal such a big painting?” But then I saw it in person, it’s about the size of a laptop, you could almost stick it in your back pocket

    That's hilarious when everyone were experts about the painting. Reminded me when I was a kid during the 70s. My older brother and his buddies watch Bruce Lee movies. They were experts at karate. They couldn't fit their way out of a wet paper bag. Even when first Rocky movie came out. They were experts at boxing. Thanks for the hilarious childhood memories.

    When facts are stated with utter and absolute confidence on this particular channel, it is a fool indeed who dares to question them. For all its cheeky entertainment value, this is an extremely well-researched and carefully considered channel -- one of the best in those regards. That having been said, I was pretty sure that Italy had been an allied power during World War One, not a pro-German one, since Churchill, upon hearing that Italy had joined the Axis in the run-up to World War Two, reportedly grinned and said, "Well, we had them last time so it's only fair." I am happy to be wrong about this and will cheerfully stand corrected.
