I have this knife for 3 years in my collection, it is made to order by Andrew Demko, in titanium with carbon fiber and the blade in cpm3v !!! it is a special piece !!!
The new guy is really doing everything he can to connect with the old school costumers on TH-cam. I think they're going to be ok. I think Lynn wanted to retire and wanted more material availability because they have a larger company can pull a little more weight.
Have had mine for a few weeks now and it has become very smooth after maybe a couple of thousand openings. This will be a great knife for someone who will use it for cutting tough things all day, every day. The box thing isn`t going to phase it in the least. I think most owners will come to appreciate the lock system over a liner or frame lock. When closed and held in the hand, you might notice a little roughness of the edges, but when open, all that tends to be gone and the knife feels great in hand. I have an average sized hand and it feels perfect for me. My thumb lands naturally on the jimping, and fingers all fit naturally around the knife. When I worked, I wore heavy leather gloves all day and this would still be perfect for that. It`s different, but it will definitely grow on you. Got mine from Amazon for 93 bucks.
Andrew Demko is a genius. He is also the one who came up with the triad lock. And the ram lock.... And now the shark lock. I just ordered the big daddy AD-15 with s35vn. Can't wait

Excellent review as always, Gideon! My copy of the AD15 LITE definitely feels like a high-quality $150 knife, and is super-sharp out-of-box. The Griv-Ex scales aren't too aggressive, but I had to bend the clip out just a bit, for easier pocket in/out. I do have a somewhat different experience closing the blade, as when I lift the scorpion lock and downward flick to close the blade, holding the knife vertically, it only moves to about the 9 o'clock position, and I just use the thmbstud to completely close it. So, it's not nearly as "drop-shutty" as your sample, or some of my other EDC's, but it's definitely more robust and "beefy" than most. As for that bit of blade tang in the handle finger groove, it isn't really noticable for my average fingers, but your point about ergonomic "flow" is noted. Not sure if this copy was made before or after the CS merger, but regardless, I feel that the overall quality is top shelf. Thanks again!
Excellent review. I liked this knife so much that I bought a second AD 15 in green G 10 scales with the S35VN blade. It's a great all around work knife. Have a good one brother!
Great review of an interesting knife. I really love beefy folders and this one is right up my alley. The weight at almost 7 ounces is a drawback more so than the issue with the ergonomics. The CS Voyager has been on my BladeHQ wish list for awhile and is less than half the cost of the AD-15. But this design is really cool.
Been meaning to pick one of these up. Found them for $80 at one dealer and decided to go ahead and snap it up. Hope my wife doesn't murder me for getting another knife...lol
I have AD15Lite just for cool design, just for collection! I did have fun with just opening and i see that it can be clasified as gravity knife but in deskaize! It is good for show, for hooligans, for ppl that love authentic style, that is my point of wiew. I think if you have depression it will make you out of it😂!
Just got one today. Couldn't figure out how to close it, so I thought the best approach was to dig my pointer finger into the blade and push.......wrong move. But great knife and great function once you figure it out.
its a cool knife but for less price i can get a 4max scout or two SR1 lite that do the same job and is even more HD - i love cold steel knives so i might buy this one just because :-)
Nothing wrong with AUS 10. Have some CS with that steel. Espadas, Spartan, Airlite. But 135 Euros is too much money. For 5 Euros more I got my Espada L G10 with AUS 10 steel and for 45 Euros more I grabbed the XL Espada G10 here in Germany.
Andrew Demko always 💪. Just bought the Cold Steel Finn Wolff and the AD10 and men i do like these cold steel folders! Not a fan of their ninja weapons but the folders are awesome!! Watch out! Razor sharp out if the box my hand got cut because I didn’t expected it.
FYI- many of the AD15’s on Amazon are fakes. I’ve compared my Amazon purchased one to my real one and it’s definitely not the same knife. From the “Cold Steel” store on Amazon too.
That's good to know, I haven't bought any knives in a long time in Amazon. I've had a feeling a lot are fake, just because if price alone. I've been warning my friends, and, family. It's good to have affirmation on that.
I have both the AD10 and 15. Both are great big boy knifes. The 15 Is better to fidget with but the 10 fits better and more natural in the hand. Both are sharp otb in s35vn. I always recommend both if you can afford them.
Great work as always! Just a heads up though I have started to see this version of AD15 going for under $100 at different cold steel dealers. The price will drop on eBay and Amazon just like the original version. Just give it some time.
Got one of the normal AD-15s on amazon for the same price and ended up returning it. Felt more like a fun knife to show off to people rather than one I would use a lot. Also the locking mechanism seems like it could have issues if it gets tangled with my keys or gets gummed up with lint or crud. I'd personally rather go with the AD-10 for about the same money on amazon or a recon 1
Also I've been thinking about one with a scorpion lock but was afraid it wouldn't be fidgety enough lol. I'm an edc but I can help to fidget. So I'm glad to hear that it is a good fidgeter

Okay, it’s not a frame or liner lock, but when you master fiddling the AD-15, you’d be amazed how often you take it out of your pocket just to play with it 😁

@@firstlast2514 I know the CRKT deadbolt, but do not own a knife with this lock. I do have several ZT’s with the Axis lock... I must say, when properly worn in (!!) the Axis is very ‘fiddly’ (is that even a word 🤔😅)

I know this is an older review but i have to say i don't like this knife at all. Trying this new lock was what i wanted and thank goodness i got it on clearance. It's beefy and i don't say it isn't ok quality. Steel is good but i would never carry this knife. I feel that a knife is a tool but a back-up for self defense. Never would i want to use any knife for defense but this one i could never count on. The lock goes past the lock bar if you don't catch it in time and will allow the blade to close if hit on the spine bypassing the channel cut for the lock bar. Control is one thing but in a stressful situation the last thing i want is my knife closing or even worrying about closing on my fingers. Around the house, out in the yard, maybe camping but other than that this knife is garbage. Like the reviews, but this knife isn't exactly safe and i had to add my experience with it. Personally i can't stand knives with pass through holes either and the handle feel is not that great but YMMV.
If you are looking for the Triad lock with a bit more in the hand, Demko's AD10 from Cold Steel is awesome, too. I love the AD15, but it tears my pocket up with that diamond grip.
Put on a respirator and hit it on the belt sander for a little. I did it to mind and it looks perfect. I also got it drop shut smooth with no blade play at all. Honestly one of my favorite knives that I own
I have more s35vn than any other steel. I think it’s a good comprise. How do you think aus10 is compared. I don’t expect it to be 1 to 1. Also I sweat a lot and live in Florida, how is it with rust ? I think you some of the best reviews on TH-cam !
50 bucks for the light at midway USA. Midway does things like this once in a while. Everybody’s asking if they’re fakes. I highly doubt Midway with Celtics. For 50 bucks “still got me into trying to brand. I’m a little excited to get it tomorrow.
Great knife! Only con for me is the aggressive g10. I will end up sanding it down especially under the clip. Can't beat how strong that scorpion lock is!!!!!

I was thinking about getting the m390 version of the AD-15 but I was wondering how cold steel is about the heat treatment? They advertised 61hrc, do you think it would be right on the money or could it possibly be much softer?
Almost all Cold Steel knives are made in Taiwan. Both models are made in Taiwan of this design you can get one made from Andrew Demko that is made in America but those are several hundred dollars.
A lot of people are saying they're legit from midway, they run a lot of clearances on cold steel. The ad10 lite was also just fifty bucks for a minute there

I’ve been eyeing this knife for months but couldn’t justify the $100 or more price tag. I’ve got Voyagers and other Cold Steels that I’ve EDC’d for decades. I couldn’t order fast enough when Midway USA advertised their special. It’s taking a little to get used to but it seems like a good design. BTW, Midway USA has periodic incredible sales and clearance prices constantly. I’ve bought too much from them!😅
At that price point, the Recon 1, Bush Ranger, Ultimate Hunter and Voyager are a better value and price per performance. Also, I have no interest in the scorpion lock.
The Scorpion lock is just a variation of a Pat Crawford design from 1979, still being made by A.G. Russell (One Hand Knife) and CRKT (Offbeat). Demko does do a good job improving locks like this and the TriAD lock. Both are improvements but not revolutionary. Just my opinion.
This new cold steel company is nothing more than just another rip off mob. Their prices now are outrageous, its time for me to forget about this new cold steel and move on to another more customer focused mob, their so called customer and spare parts service is exactly like the old cold steel a complete and utter joke. Goodbye new and old cold steel. Good riddens

I just got the AD15 in S35, for around $135 and it is awesome. Great ergonomics and love the blade. It is a big knife.

I have the original AD15 and it is a great knife in my opinion. I was surprised that I could spidey flick it. Plus all the standard opening methods.

That's what I do! Got 4 Max, large and XL Voyager, large Luzon, AD 10, AD 15 ....code 4 ... Medium Luzon...etc etc ...
Best bang for your buck IMHO is the 4max Scout. Curios to try a scorpion lock but it just looks like it has too many things to go wrong on it.

I got new scales for the S35VN version because the scales it came with are just to aggressive for my taste for taking in and out of the pocket.

Not the biggest surprise or "news" for myself. Looks the same like the normal ad 15 but with a bit worse matertial and a bit cheaper.
It would be interesting if Cold Steel made a Scorpion Lock knife with a multi-position blade. The lock makes that possible.
After watching the video, one has to ask himself is this blade...................robust. ;)

This lock is at least 5 years old
The Scorpion lock is just a variation of a Pat Crawford design from 1979, still being made by A.G. Russell (One Hand Knife) and CRKT (Offbeat). Demko does do a good job improving locks like this and the TriAD lock. Both are improvements but not revolutionary. Just my opinion.
There’s a bunch of similar locks that pre-date Demko’s.

This new cold steel company is nothing more than just another rip off mob. Their prices now are outrageous, its time for me to forget about this new cold steel and move on to another more customer focused mob, their so called customer and spare parts service is exactly like the old cold steel a complete and utter joke. Goodbye new and old cold steel. Good riddens
I agree,that new 4 Max is over $400..that’s crazy,that’s getting up in the territory of Hinderer,a starting point for a AD20 made by Andrew Demko(not Cold Steel),Microtech,Olamic,Chris Reeve,Medford,etc..that is absolute insanity for a Cold Steel knife..for the material used in the AD-15 Lite,it should be $80 max
