    My most favorite Cold Steel knife. I got the OD green and Black in S35VN and 3 lites.

      The more I spend time with the AD15, the more I like them (dare I say maybe more than the AD10). Thanks for checking it out. 👊✌️

    I got the lite a few days ago and have loved it. I fidgeted with it quite a bit, including doing the one hand open close on the yoke. I did not notice any sharpness and certainly no skin cutting on the yoke, however, I was not looking out for it and I was not comparing it to the OG AD so I may have missed it.

      Hey thanks for sharing! I am truly glad to know mine was a one-off and not part of a larger QA issue, because I really love this model.

    Thank you so much for explaining of this knife works. I didn't know it had a spring to hold it and I thought it replied on your hand grip to hold the knife opened.

      Most welcome - you should really go watch the deployment video I made (th-cam.com/video/NgLIExs9XRk/w-d-xo.html) which shows some of the hints and pitfalls on deploying and retracting this blade back.

      It's interesting - I bought one recently from Midwayusa.com and though the back spring bar was still a bit sharper than my OG, it was not as bad as the initial batch. Thanks for stroppin in to share your experience with the lite!

      Both fantastic knives - love 'em! I hope once the frenzy around the shark lock subsides, Demko will get a chance to get back to some of the AD15 customs (maybe he could even minaturize that too like he did the AD20 :-).

    Can you please do a video on how you are closing the AD15 (OG or LIte) so smoothly with one hand. Like step by step so we can learn how? It would be awesome.

      Absolutely.. and I even have the originating Klecker integral notch lock knife where I learned it. I'll put in some slowed down motion too. It will be my next video - thanks for asking!

    Can you put scales from the OG OD on the lite? I saw and am interested in micarta... Am planning on getting an AD-15 and I'm not a fanatic collector, so I'm down with good enough. I'll accept the Lite as a good usable knife. I've got an SR-1 Lite and it's good enough and gets very lot of usage.

    • @MitchBollig
      @MitchBollig 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great question...and one I don't know, sorry. Since my original plan was to do the blade swap (S35VN into the Lite frame/scales), I never even thought of swapping the scales to create two interracially-mixed knives of green and black 😊. Intriguing idea though - and by all measurements with my micrometer I cannot detect any change in size specs, so I *believe* it would work. The SR-1 Lite is one tough bruiser - it was the proof to me that proper heat treat (Cold Steel did a great job on mine) is more important than just the steel type.

    I just received an all black version on black Friday from Atlantic Knife for 131.00 and has S35VN blade steel and I also have the original, which I paid a lot more.

    • @MitchBollig
      @MitchBollig ปีที่แล้ว

      Holy crap! Sweet value. Cold Steel does a nice heat treat job on their blades. All things considered, it seems the big thing suffering with the GSM Outdoors buyout is customer and warranty service. Hope you enjoy yours. Thanks for stopping in to inform folks of buy options out there.

    • @MitchBollig
      @MitchBollig 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Yeah, I've wondered how a Klecker OG releases compared to the CRKT Tighe version. And I'm by no means saying this scorpion lock is a copy (for other viewers out there) - it just resembles the actual tang divot with a top pin lock mechanism.

    Mine is the Lite. The thing that was the deal breaker to you, I don`t care about. So there you go. I`m happy with mine, fidget with it every day. The lesser grade steel and the FRN, don`t bother me either. Good review on a couple of nice knives.

    • @MitchBollig
      @MitchBollig 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh the lite is a great knife for certain - I recommend it to people all the time as a lower cost lighter weight version of this knife. For me the OG was simply the winner. Glad to hear that yours kicks ass for you too, and thanks for stopping by!

  • @stevetqp9152
    @stevetqp9152 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice and thorough comparison, Mitch! I was actually thinking about the AD15 Lite, but after your comments about the edge sharpness where it doesn't belong, has me rethinking. I've gone through too many knives that had a "comfort" issue, either on deployment or closing. IMHO, an EDC should be first and foremost, sharp, but a very close second is how easy and comfortable it is to deploy/close. And any good QC department should take that into account in their testing. I have experience with other CS models that are superb in both respects, i.e., the Crawford Model 1 for example...quite sharp and easy to deploy/close. Thanks again for this great comparison!

    • @MitchBollig
      @MitchBollig 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks! In defense of the AD15 Lite (*against me*), I have had other viewers comment theirs did NOT have such sharp edges on the milled aluminum back spring slab. Maybe this is something CS fixed in more recent production runs. In any case, it does warrant a double-check if you can try one out in hand before jumping in. Thanks for stropping by!

    • @harolddavis4138
      @harolddavis4138 ปีที่แล้ว

      My AD15 Lite will just about cut your thumb on the back of the handle lock.
      I'm talking the part I brace my thumb on the back of the handle when applying pressure when I'm whittling and trying to control the blade more than just a fist grip provides. The skin of my thumb pushes down into that opening and the edges of it are very sharp on the back of the knife.
      I was thinking about sanding it down.

    • @MitchBollig
      @MitchBollig 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      With any luck some others might chime in and say their Lite edition did not have the sharp edges on the scorpion back lock bar...I truly hope so, and that mine was a one-off...because for pocket carry, the griv-ex works great without tearing the pants up and you drop .3 oz, not to mention the price difference.
