Kalyn is 100% right about the price of whisk[e]y. It often doesn't make sense and the fluctuation is so wide and ever changing that it's hard to know sometimes what and where the value is.
While at MM doing the tour, they pulled some whiskey from a barrel and dumped it into our glasses… drinking MM from the barrel in the rickhouse was a memory I’ll never forget. Highly HIGHLY recommend!!!!!
“We could use some wood glue!” 😂😂. Seriously, I look forward to every one of these videos! If it was in my budget to do Patreon THIS would be the channel I’d pick. Love y’all and the great laughs!!
I like to drink along when I have the same or similar bottle, mine was 112.1 proof. I love regular Makers 46, this cask strength bottle is solid, affordable for a cask strength, would like to try the Makers 46 high proof next. Had Woodford Reserve for the first time the Friday after Thanksgiving at a chain Italian restaurant. loved it. You two are too cute, loved you with Josh and Erin.
Love the channel. I want to point out as a whiskey channel you said you would pick other bottles over MMCS in the price range twice and never recommended other bottles. Give me 3 bottles better than MMCS in the price range and proof range, please.
I’m always a little confused with Makers Mark. It has never been my go-to; however, I’ve had some really good MM (Participated in a barrel pick from the stave program that was extremely good) and I’ve had it be one of the worst bottles in my collection (MM 101). The 101 was so rancid bitter my wife and I could not drink it. So I get what you are experiencing on that bottle. While we were watching the video, we decided to open up my wife’s bottle she got at the distillery a couple weeks ago. It was their “Toasted Marshmallow” from their stave series. It was 110 proof and turned out to be very good. Thanks for the light-hearted whiskey reviews.
I was able to quit chasing Weller 107 once I found this one. It is a bit inconsistent between batches though with some better than others. Not quite the same as Weller 107, but very similar drinking experience and some batches even better.
Haha! Classic Kalyn look gets me every time!! Keep reading that label... 😳 I really appreciate going to some of these more budget and readily available products. I like the 46 cask strength quite a bit and isn't much more expensive than the standard cask strength. This is a really great daily sipper that doesn't even remotely break the bank. Woodford Reserve has always been on the top of my list of keeping on hand.
Your videos crack me up!! Keep up the great work on these! As for the MM cask strength, good everyday type sipper with an ice cube. Although I am a big MM fan. But you are right, there is a lot of good stuff in that price range... like buffalo trace.
Try blinding the Makers Cask Strength against other solid Wheat Bourbons. I was quite surprised that, for me, it beats out Weller Antique 107 in a blind which typically costs 3-4x the Makers here in FL.
Maker's Mark's true strength is as a mixer, not neat. It has a very unique, and I would say superior, flavor in a mixed drink. Pappy van Winkle shared his recipe with the founder of Maker's Mark so there is good provenance in the whiskey. A couple more budget friendly picks: Blue Note Juke Joint Bourbon, Benchmark Single Barrel bourbon, MacLeans's Nose blended Scotch and Glencadam 10 Scotch.
Black Bottle....because Scotches in general are much more expensive than bourbons....so the money saving is so much greater.....and it is nice and complex......
Was that a real picture?hair looked like he was wearing a papakha. Is it standard Woodford that K-dog uses for her bar stock or a double oak? BTW I'm glad you perservered adding water to these higher abv whiskies, it might not taste better but it can give you some extra tasting notes - maybe you should get some pipettes as it's a little more controlled.
I’m sorry, but regular MM (and cask strength) and regular 46 are absolute dog water. Of my mere 100 bottles in my collection those never get touched even as mixers. I’d rather drink Malort. For under $50 I’d rather have Jack Daniels triple mash
Companies need to hire you guys to taste test their products, hilarious & very informative, we need more of this honesty.. lol
"Do my cheeks get red very often?" ... "no" = pure gold 🤣😂🤣
You guys need to try some of the Bardstown Origin series as far as under $50 bottles go!
Agreed
yeah, that stuff rocks

I didn't have any of this on hand, so I mixed some Makers 101 with some OGD 114 and yeah, I think we're on the same page!
This is on my to buy list so, very nice of you to review it! 🥰
I loved Kalyn's "it's all so clear now" look to Dustin's "it impairs your abilities" statement.
P.S. that was the perfect end to the video.
MMCS is one of my all time favorites. Always on my shelf. Great for cocktails and blends.

That Rare Breed in the back is the best bang for your buck. haha
Awesome video as usual, cheers!
Sagamore Rye Double Oak is one of my favorites right now. Maybe not under $50, but I can usually get it for $50-$60
Perfect ending! 👏

Eagle Rare, Russell's 10yr are great bottles at that price range. Might as well just do a 10 yr blind
Which logic puzzles do you enjoy solving?

It's fun size.

Try some Still Austin, under $50 and pretty good.
BARDSTOWN HIGH WHEAT beats the pants off MM!
You gotta go save luigi!
Old Grand Dad 114 is the best bang for your buck bourbon hands down. I would buy two OGD114's before I buy another Cask Strength Makers.

Sadly MMCS is not my favorite, I think that bitterness turned me off some.
Woodford is what you should have for sure!
MMCS is only good when it’s out of a 750ml with a cork. True story! 😂
I did not hit her! It’s not true! It’s bullshit! I did not hit her! I did N-O-T!
Best worst movie ever
Oh, Hi Mark.
You should have been sooooper controversial & introduced yourself as "its ah me" Luigi😅
Way too much water.
