In this video, JOM of the Gravel Cyclist crew meets with Jason at the 2023 MADE Show, founder of Abbey Bike Tools, for a tour of their latest product. Undoubtedly, the Ultimate Truing Stand.
The Truing Stand:
"There's a truing stand and then there is The Truing Stand. What's long been a bike shop staple isn't always the most glamorous tool in the shop, in fact it's usually a pretty basic device. But the work that comes off the truing stand is often the thing bike shop hero's are made from, the legendary perfectly built wheel. So what if we revisit the lowly truing stand, approach it like a piece of metrology equipment instead of something that does little more than hold a wheel? There's so many ways to 'hack' a truing stand, if you're going to make a proper tool why not go all out? "
"We set out to make a truing stand like no other, something that had a stable base as a foundation for precision and repeatability. We wanted the stand to reliably mirror on a centerline so it would always be in dish regardless of hub or rim width. We needed a good thru axle solution that didn't require adapters. In the disc brake era we wanted to be able to straighten rotors while the wheel was in the stand. We wanted a stand that was equally at home truing wheels for a general tune up as it was building wheels worthy of elite competition. We added the ability to run dial indicators for radial and lateral deviation and you can run one for the rotor if you'd like. Design is all about compromise and we spent nearly 6 years thinking and tinkering this one, the results do not disappoint."

I continue to be super in love with my P&K Lie Special 250 but BOY I do lust after being able to try one of Jason and Co's most recent creations; I love their politics around quality tools.
The sliding rotor truing gauge is lush and a stand that checks and remains in dish as much as possible is very much needed on the market. The Islandix truing system is THE NUTZ and absolutely another item on my wish list.
I'm not a wheelbuilder, but I would love Jason's latest creation just to ogle somewhere in the house.
Abbey… this and the team issue tool box gets you to the top.
I desire to own both, mostly to ogle them in my spare time.
That's the trying stand to have. I don't touch wheels though; I would probably end up with oval wheels.

For the price there should be a computer telling you how much to turn each spoke, like a car tire balancing machine
This is a pro level wheel building tool IMHO, not for everyone. You should see how much a Holland wheel building machine costs...
Great looking stand, but as someone with a fatbike... truing a wheel one sided is something I already own, why would I buy something else that does the same thing?
This is a pro level wheel building stand, likely overkill for the average home mechanic.

If that kind of money is going to be given for a stand, then let it be a Preciray truing stand from the 1970s... this is something else...

It would be worth it if rim manufacturers could produce a rim of quality. 🤣 The industry today can't touch the quality of 40 years ago. Now the stuff we get is barely fit for purpose.
