  • Making a stone water bowl for my dog.
    All the granite supplies including wet grinder can be purchased at Derusha Supply. www.derusha.com
    Be careful about buying cheap polishing pad on eBay.
    They don't polish good at all.

    If I may make a suggestion..., you could take a small plastic bag or even a pillowcase and fill it halfway with sand. That could be what you set the stone on to hold it stable. Plus, I was really concerned for you when you were bent over using that large cutter. I could see your arm, shirt and even your leg were getting dangerously close, and you were so focused on what you were doing, that you didn't notice. I'm glad you didn't get hurt. You can get an after market safety shroud for it and KNOW that you'll be okay when you use it. It may cost a little but and extremity is well worth it. nice finished work.

      Yeah... thats what I thought. It is working perfect for 20 years and one small mistake can cost you a leg or an arm. The risk is to high and there is toooo much to loose.

    Who would have thought that beautiful treasure was in there!?! I bet the birds would love to bathe in it too . I was so tense in the video, sometimes your knee or your hand looked millimetres from the blade! What a lovely artisan piece.

    It's in fast motion, but when hes going around cutting the top off I was watching how close it got to his legs. It probably looks more dangerous than it was but I got a slight goosebumps from it

    I do one of these in a day with 4.5 and 7 inch grinders AND still use the guards. I've had the grinders kick back so that big blade gave me the creeps.
    I don't polish the insides so I've been looking to see how it's done so this was perfect.

      so do you think a drill and a saw would make thinner spaces to be chiseled out or would the vibration of a hammer drill cause it to crack?
      if I can build a sink in a reasonable time frame I may never work for someone other than myself ever again. there are mc mansions going up all over this place and I have the tools shown, so this may be my niche here.

    • @frenchriversprings
      @frenchriversprings  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luke Warmwater if I would do it again, I would use one of those cement cutters that looks like a chainsaw and you hook up the water hose to it. I think that would be by far your best bet.

    Hey, you got me kinda stuck on this. Can you suggest where to start with tools? I work with steel and angle grinder all the time, so i have that covered. How much do you think it cost in tooling(consumed) to produce that piece? I love the idea that i can go get free material to work on at any time. The only part that scared me is seeing that big blade go deep.

    • @frenchriversprings
      @frenchriversprings  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can buy everything you need at derusha.com. As for the scary wheel, you can use something safer. You could rent a concrete cutter or buy at derusha. You will need a wet grinder for your polishing pads. Derusha could help you on that. Maybe $100 for all your polishing pads and $350 for the wet grinder. The wet grinder attaches to your garden hose.

    But I'm concerned about that crack in the edge. You say it's a water bowl... water is going to freeze in that crack and break all that work right in half.
