_"...or if we ever get a summer in the UK."_ 😄😄😄😄 FWIW: Although I live in North Carolina now, I was born and raised in Florida. Flying with doors off there would be fairly common....
I built a 914 Cavalon the end of 2016 and to date have put 900 plus hours on it during that time I only flew it once with the doors off and although it is approved and can be done I found the experience less than enjoyable. Due to the narrow front the incoming air is blasted past your shoulder and swirls around behind your head causing an extreme amount of wind in the cockpit and even with headsets it's difficult to talk with your passenger. Please don't get me wrong I have flown a Bell 47 doors off and would prefer to fly it that way but the Cavalon not so much so. To each his own so if that is what you like have a great time but please be safe.
It was suggested that with the higher 120mph VNe along the way stability might be compromised because of course the nose wheel is still connected to the rudder and the wheel spat is quite a big surface area, odd however as it is there on the Calidsu.
...."if we ever get a summer in the UK" as a former resident of London and a current resident of Florida I understand you but I do not envy you my friend...
If you knew anything about the Cavalon in the UK.... it is an absolute nightmare. One at the airfield near me hasn't flown for ages due to numerous faults - not least of which is the prop which needs work before it can fly. The suppliers sound like a right bunch of cowboys. (Yes, I do know something about gyros - I've been flying a VPM M16 for years)
Well Tony its a view and thank you for sharing - although clearly they are a popular model and should you wish to change you VPM at any point you are faced with the choice of Magni or AutoGyro. I'm not AutoGyro's PR but at the moment the Cavalon is a far nicer aircraft to fly than the M24 and having flown the aircraft in the film several times it flew well. Quite why it falls out of bed subsequently is a matter I've little interest in getting involved with.
@@gyrocopterflyingclub6148 Thanks for the reply. Yes, we all have our opinions - I can only relate to the one hardly-flown example due to faults and the other that I flew back from France in and then had a partial engine fail on takeoff at Fenland. I'm not going to tempt fate and tell how reliable my old VPM has been... oh, wait... :)
I would be interested to know what other problems the Cavalon your speaking of happens to have. I built mine in 2016 and in the first 2 years put 600 hours on it with only a few problems ,,,,,the front light group began getting dim and when we took them out we found they were getting warm and the compound holding the led's in had begun to melt over the lens reducing their function but Autogyro replaced them no problem. I also had a pre-rotator gear start chipping the ends of the teeth and upon close inspection found hairline cracks in the sprocket,,,,,,again Autogyro dealer replaced the gear and the bendix drive. I have to say aside from a few other very minor things all has been well and I fly this machine more than most other people around the world as I am now at 4 years and over 900 hours and I have found it to be a very dependable machine. I am possibly looking into the new 915 certified model this coming year so my Cavalon N914RB will be for sale if I make that purchase. If anyone knows of any specific problems with the Cavalon don't hesitate to drop me a line I am always willing to talk gyros and like to get input from other pilots,,,,,,,never hurts to have another view point and I am always willing to learn. Fly safe and fly often.
I am new to gyros and I keep asking some questions and they don’t get answered. Can you encourage your flying subscribers to touch base with a basic question if they see them in the comments please. For today my question is why don’t we see three bladed rotors? Anyone?
Hello Paul - I apologise if I've missed your questions. If anything needs attention best to email [gyrocopterflyingclub@gmail.com] anyway simple answer, cost, weight and complexity of mechanism verse the very cheap and easy 2 blade teeter system. I might be wrong but I think the last 3 blade gyroplane used a Hughes 269 rotor system and was fitted to the McCulloch J2 - see this film for more details:- th-cam.com/video/XMu1tIz0krs/w-d-xo.html
yeah agree the colour contrast is marginal - a brighter main colour would make it pop - if you look at the Calidus review that blue would be my choice.
Really can't wait for the 915 Calidus
I don’t believe it will come the feeling is the 914 version works well enough.
I've heard some rumours but don't want to talk about it here
You may well know more than me - which is entirely possible, I don't have any special insight to the AutoGyro factory.
It would be really nice if they come through with it but I hear the MT with that 915 reaches its VNE extremely quick
If they put a 915 in an MT I'm sure they will do a 915 Calidus

Great fun flying the the doors off!

Thank you for the really good review. However, I would appreciate higher quality video as I really couldn't see the instrument panel very well.
Hi David - please see the original that contains the same info post the intro:-th-cam.com/video/WEuQvenv-ho/w-d-xo.html
FWIW, I did not know ANY gyros used constant speed props.
Silly question, “Why isn’t the spat allowed on the front wheel?”
It was suggested that with the higher 120mph VNe along the way stability might be compromised because of course the nose wheel is still connected to the rudder and the wheel spat is quite a big surface area, odd however as it is there on the Calidsu.
Gyrocopter flying club Thanks for the reply. Keep up the good work 👍👍👍

The problem with the rubber mounts, is that only 915 or 914 as well.
Hi - this particular issue was 915 related.
Air conditioning unit?!?! Hell yes! But deleting the seat heaters, I guess I'll have to buy the Calidus or a 914 Cavalon.

wonderful, but the black mask hardly appears with the dark blue

If you fly like you record videos, I would never seat with you in cockpit...
If you fly like your sentence construction I would never sit in a cockpit with you. Next time if you are going to heckle from the side....
