I would’ve loved it. Unfortunately there is next to Zero demand for 2-door, AWD, V8, forced induction, manual performance cars in the USA. That’s a big reason why we got the GR Corolla instead of the GR Yaris. GR Yaris is gonna be faster and handle better because it’s smaller and lighter and has the same I3 engine. But no one wants a two door these days because a lot of Americans want their sports cars to be able to double as a crossover, apparently.

@@robsorgdrager8477 I had a 69 Lincoln continental, a 72 Gran Torino Sport and a 95 thunderbird. And a 92 camaro (that I drove 150k before junking it) a 01 olds aurora and a 11 challenger. Bow tie, blue oval, mopar… as long as it was a v8 and red white and blue, I’m good! Enjoyed them all. Oh and a 78 mustang with t-tops for a short bit.

Completely agree with you. V8 AWD is a huge lost opportunity for Dodge. I don't think the problem was the sales numbers. I think Dodge was worry not to create internal competition with Durango and Jeep. In fact there was zero development cost for this, since we have Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango V8 AWD (and lots of RAM trucks) using exactly the same drive train. So there was no major technical issues.

The reason AWD sales were so low is because nobody knew they even had one. They didn't market them at all and they didn't even say AWD anywhere on them. I added the badging to mine. They just had a stupid striped badge you were supposed to know what it meant and nobody did, or does. I bought a 2015 Charger SE and my shop didn't believe it was AWD until they saw it. If shops didn't even know they existed, NO ONE ELSE DID EITHER. Besides, they had a lot of problems with the Mexican 5.7s and still do. It was an engine plagued with problems like soft cams and lifters, and the newest ones STILL drops valve seats. I believe that happened to you. Their solution was to just stop making the engine, like I predicted. To add to the AWD confusion, you had to know the SE meant AWD, just like you have to know the GT is AWD. They didn't even keep the name. I only found out when I ordered my new 2018 from the factory and the SE was gone. WTF? But they did add a plus version to the GT so I ordered mine totally decked out with everything on it. Which you couldn't get with the SE. And of course today, this is all meaningless as the Chargers, Challengers and 300s no longer exist at all, with nothing to replace them. Also as I predicted and everyone called me crazy. Not so crazy anymore. Over 2 billion a year in sales gone. Poof. And the Charger was the number one selling 4-door sedan in the world. I call that suicide. I give them two more years tops. And forget about the 100,000 dollar E-Charger, that'll NEVER happen. And they closed all the factories so our cars will never be back and good luck getting crash parts for your cars today. They must of made a lot of Chargers in 23 because that's what they're selling new on their web site today; leftovers.

I actually think Dodge should have offered an awd v8 challenger. Some may argue that the charger awd v8 sales were poor, but I argue that the charger is in a different market. The charger is a sedan, which means that a lot of the people who buy those are just looking for something to get from point A to point B. The challenger, on the other hand, doesn’t really appeal to those people due to having 2 doors.

  • @cris_261
    @cris_261 ปีที่แล้ว +10

I thought the reason why the R/T Charger with AWD had poor sales was due to Dodge pulling a, "we don't know how to market it" excuse. They did the same thing with the Magnum, Nitro, and Dart. Seems like Dodge should have fired their sales department personnel, and brought in more creative thinkers.

I think Dodge should’ve offered a performance AWD system for the Hellcat at least….even the Demon or 170 exclusively. Dodge really hit the limit in terms of what a RWD setup is capable of. On the street, a hellcat’s power is just too much for your average driver. These aren’t lightweight, state of the art sports cars/exotics. AWD would’ve taken these cars to the next level

Widebody Challenger with AWD and V8. That's how you beat the market of fast cars not on a dragstrip, but in real life.
If that AWD would be fast, without excessive limitations, with LSD and option to disable front axle manually, that would be a steal deal.
But I personally would prefer 6.4 instead of updated 5.7, but both is fine, while they aren't boosted, have MDS and making a decent horsepower.
I like the design too, would definitely go for that kind of looks.
Its so easy to cyberpunk update exterior of the Challenger to make it stand out, and there are some features to make a car more livable from the stock, like modern headlights with crops and autofunctions, heated windshield, auto foldable mirrors, 360 cameras and etc.
But looks like the only way to build one is to do it by yourself) Unfortunately, AWD Challenger is not the best point to start, as I thought.

All though we all say, "They should've built this car" there are reasons they didn't stated right at 5:14. I have a 2021 Widebody Challenger R/T Scat Pack 392 T/A with the 6-speed Tremec. I do love the way it drives and the fact it is rear wheel drive. It is not my daily driver and I have five other vehicles to drive with my 2017 Ram 1500 Crew Cab Laramie or my 2002 Honda Accord EX sedan, which I routinely drive during the winter. Most people aren't buying these cars for daily drivers and the ones that do, might have bought the all wheel drive GT, but evidently not enough interest was stirred up because marketing told them to abandon the idea.

If you can find a trans that has the output housing that bolts to the t-case ( yes these use a transfer case like a jeep or Durango) it can be doable. The issue is launching as the AWD in my car is set at 30/70 and in most cases is on always unless cruising at hwy speeds. Even with the 5 spd auto and good tires you will get rear tire spin and this puts the car into scrambling to find traction and not blowing up the driveline. It makes horrible buzzes and ratcheting noises . Having a clutch will add complexity to the system.

    • @stoneylonesome4062

@@robsorgdrager8477 The shitty thing is, the type of person who wants a Hemi V8 and a Manual is gonna only want natural aspiration and RWD. The type of person who wants AWD is gonna want an automatic transmission and probably wants a four door car. There’s basically next to no market for 2-door manual AWD performance cars in the USA. Especially with a Supercharged V8.

    • @fadedsoul23

@@stoneylonesome4062if there’s no market for something, make a market for it. Koenigsegg made the gemera, first ever 4 seat hypercar. Lamborghini just announced the first ever ultra gt with the lanzador (I think I spelled it right). And Lamborghini and Porsche both have off-road sport/supercars. Dodge could have made a new market of muscle cars with an AWD 2 door manual muscle car (supercharged or not) and I’m sure people would have bought it, especially if it could do what a bmw can do, be both rwd and AWD with a flick of a switch. And maybe take it a step further and have a switch for FWD so you can warm up all 4 tires and then launch in AWD mode

I think if the awd was marketed as a performance option for the 5.7, it would have been more successful. It's already sacrilege they equip the 5.7 autos with an open diff. Also pairing them the performance kits could have lifted the 5.7 up as a way to bump it up.

No, retired govt vehicle places are a great way to go. They are required to be maintained otherwise they loose the warranty ( works in the vehicle industry and used to maintain fleet vehicles) . The pursuit charger gets the 14 inch scat rotors, the scat 309 final gears. The suspension is beefier and the cooling systems for the engine and trans are uprated. The really important part is the cop cars are set up to have mid 5 second 0-60 times with full gear load. When you have a pursuit without the cage and other gear you are looking at making the scat cars and most any performance car on the road play catch up before the can beat you....more times than not you catch them sleeping and they blow their tires loose, it's great fun because your cop car looks like a sxt V6 car😎

The reasoning provided for not building it is false. There's two reasons, the first I got from an engineer involved.
    1. The transmission, all the other V8-AWD cars have the 5 speed. The 8 speed between a V8 and transfer case made it too long to fit the floor tunnel and made fitting a passenger seat very difficult. The body would have had to be redesigned, crash tested, etc.
    2. CAFE, the AWD versions got worse MPG and they were not only already looking at hefty fines but looking forward to many more. At that point they'd already stopped selling the 5speed AWD V8 cars to the public due presumably to CAFE.
These two things would have made the cars VERY expensive to produce. And yes at that point the market mattered.
