Thank you so much! I did the repair and the whole thing with new batteries only cost $20.00, compadre to the $200+ to get a whole new key shipped through the dealership from Germany. Of course I’d love to order a couple new keys, but you can’t beat a $20.00 repair on a MB.
Sorry to be so offtopic but does anyone know a method to get back into an instagram account? I somehow forgot the login password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Hector Marshall I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and im in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
It took me twenty five minutes, some bad language and four broken finger nails to replace the Batteries on two key fobs. Thank you for making that easier than it might have been.
Thanks for saving my dad over 800$ at the dealer to replace the whole key! It's insane. They told him they could not fix the plastic and would have to get a new key and reprogram it for his car. Now he hadn't told me about his key being worn out and damaged so when I found out I was furious! I've done this to 4 cars before and saved myself hundreds of dollars but I did not anticipate saving him nearly a grand thanks to you my man!
A big thank you! One of the best key shell change demos on youtube. Found that a thin penknife blade saved using my nails on the first opening and was helpful in jiggling the circuit boad free.
Thank you for this. I just replaced my old Mercedes Benz key fob that was all chewed up looking with a brand new shiney one off ebay using these steps. I actually played this vid while I reproduced your steps on mine. It worked like a charm. My original fob was so old and worn the little white plastic interior holder broke in two. But I Super glued it back together and after it dried it held up fine and everything slid back in just like you said. Everything works perfectly now. Thanks again!
Thank you for the video. Just replaced mine. I like to share what I did which it's a bit easier. I used the key to open the transponder a bit so you can clear the locking clips. I used a paper clip and stretched out on side. I bent the tip a tiny bit enough so that it could fit in the plastic opening that lock the chip. Once you open the transponder with the key, it clears the locking clips and with the bent clip side, pull the chip out.
Just had the same problem...key not turning, locked st/wheel and no ignition. Did not believe the "fluff" problem till I opened the key....two little squares of fluff right over the sender units. Cleaned the lot with aftershave (Brut of course) re-assembled the key and bingo!! Worked like magic....... Many thanks for the info Siri. Selling the 240 CLK now as just bought a key-less go 350 CLK ..great cars.
Having a nightmare getting the circuit board out...it's like its locked in. Tried with tweezers and it will not budge. 2004 W211 E320 estate. EDIT: Hold that thought...I cracked it....I used a paper clip with a tiny bend in it to pull it out with...Thank you for the great video. PS I was quoted £480.00 to replace the keys by Mercedes Benz...now done for £11.80...Madness!
Thank you! Such a good feeling when I finally got the little bendy paper clip in far enough to really be able to pull it with enough force for it to all pop out! Thanks!!
Thanks for the video very clear and concise, just changed my batteries, I did find I didn’t have to release the small clip to get the batteries out, they just slid out one at a time.
Tip... The circuit board will come out more safely and easily if you pull it out by using a right angle pick tool in the tab holes where the white plastic spacer is. There's enough room around the plastic tabs / locator pins to get purchase with the pick and pull the circuit board out. You risk damaging the board by levering at it.
I think that long, thin protrusion is a secret catch. The little round nubs locate the clip to the board but then that long thin thing is the catch to locate the assembly.
As can be seen at the end of the video, pressing the trunk button does not flash the red light on the key fob as the open and close buttons for the doors do. However, such is the way the button is supposed to work, i.e., without red light response flash.
I have a 2004 kompressor coupe the key won’t turn in my ignition.. can I follow this procedure and change the battery for it? Or can I buy a new key fob for much cheaper online than at the dealership because it will be $300
If the keyfob operates the Door locks, it probably isn't your battery. I don't know. It might be the ignition switch. I am curious what the solution you find though.
So I have a question my key to my 2004 kompressor stopped working it won’t turn in the ignition. could I buy a new battery for my key fob and follow this procedure or do I have to pay the $300 to purchase a new one ?
They are similar but have slightly different thicknesses. Both are lithium vs Manganese Dioxide, 3.0V, round, 20mm in diameter. The 2032 is 3.2mm thick while the 2025 is 2.5mm thick. Depending on if it will fit in the holder, they may well be interchangeable.
To work, a Keyless Remote for your car needs a frequency, which is 433.92MHz in Europe (315MHz the U.S. and Japan). To meet the demand for remote keyless entry systems, Europe has also opened up the 868MHz band. Where ever you are ordering your remote from, all they should need to know is the Year, Make, Model, Trim and possibly the last 8 digits of your VIN. The frequency of the remote shouldn't be a question that the company would ask to be able to complete your purchase once you provide all of that other information.
Those people in middle east. Do not do this. The cars shipped to middle east comes with keys that can not be repaired. When damaged, you are forced to buy a new key from Mercedes. It's simply no customer protection in those countries that can force Mercedes to give a rpaire option instead of replacement.
This Mercedes key is a prime example of overengineered junk. Absolutely the worst key design I have evr seen. This guy makes it look easy, but you literally need some dentist tools to do simple tasks like changing the battery. I waster 30 minutes of life on atask that should have taken 3 minutes max. For this reason only, I will NEVER buy mercedes again.

I bought a fob off of amazon and is it as easy as just changing the internals from one to the other?
I purchased two "new" fob cases on Ebay. GARBAGE!!. Cut some rubberized tape to cover cracks in old FOB. Works like a charm. Thanks!
thanks for thousand time
Thanks for showing the trick

Will i need to do anything else such as coding the key again if i change the housing and batteries?
Thanks dude .. great help 👌👌
You are WELCOME!
After changing the case do you need to re programme the key?
Nice video. I want to change the key fob of my w211 to a new one with the crome edges. Can I apply this same procedure?
Great video
Thank you
Great voice you have!!
thank you!
Where did you buy the fob?
Hi, i dont get the red light after ive changed the battery, what do you think it might be the cause?

Its the steering lock malfunctioning, most likely
😮 Thank you !

Hello I've changed the batteries in my key fob but it won't recognise the key when I put it on the ignition . Can you advise please

Great vid. But not all of them with that style fob have 2 batteries. My 04 SL55 AMG only uses one CR2025 battery.
Thank you
Thanks so much
can i use ECR 2032? I have 2 on hand

Will this work for 2007 cls?
is it the same style remote control? then yes

I don't know if you can program it yourself or not. I would be curious to hear what your outcome was on that.
My wife would just trade in the car if the key didn't work :-)
LAUGHS!!!!!
lol, I guess when the tyres need changing? (change the car)
