I love it, it's been my go to shotgun for so long. Nice to see it getting the respect it deserves. :) Great vid.
Had to come back and say thank you for sharing your PvE knowledge. As a mid level player, I'm not going to be using this knowledge in the same high-skill contexts that you do. Very informative! It would've been nice to see a visual layout of recommended perks for an easy way to refer back to this video but this has definitely made me much less apprehensive to the idea of using shotguns in PvE.
When I was doing master caital farming with rockets I was the gjallahorn user so after some runs I settled on Until It's Return as being the best choice since we could 1 phase from time to time. I love that shotgun
I would argue affinity is not worth judging a weapon on, I've been using any number of heavy weapons for boss DPS to great effect, sleeper, retrofit escapade, cold comfort, and any number of elemental swords.
I don't suppose you could give best rolls of the S and A tiers of each special weapon type, I feel like that would be super interesting. and also useful knowledge. Great video all the same, very insightful and not overwhelming which is always nice, especially for a longer video. Thank You!!!
great video orher than one thing i think would elevate it to the next level and that is showing the perkpool for every shotgun you are talking about. so going to d2 foundry's page for the shotty and then going back to the tierlist to rate it. would make it easier to comprehend imo
Great video! Just one issue: the “Competition” section seems entirely redundant. You said that it’s scored based on “whether it’s the best at what it does”, but how do you gauge that at the beginning of your rankings when you (theoretically) shouldn’t have any sort of benchmark to compare against? The only way to counter that is by starting with weapons that you already know are top-class, but then you run into the issue of inputting personal bias
Because if a weapon is best in class because Bungie has failed to fill up that niche with truly good weapons, then it deserves a score increase because there is no alternative. This is relatively rare, and the result is skewing to extremes, but I think it ended up balancing the list in a more accurate manner.
Personally, I wouldn't use elemental affinity, as a really important factor to determine the value of the those shotguns, cuz even tho the affinity may provide a good advantage on dps rotation with surge mods, it's really dependent in external factors, that being the meta and the current roster of weapons, which could change really easily by a nerf or a new weapon. The only case I do understand, is kinetic shotguns, because of their intrinsic 15% extra damage. Still, great video
Very good list agree with all of it. I just think u undervalued reconstruction and slugs (and even tho u gave extra points to recom, i think that was still not enough) on that list. There are still several bosses with a higher crit multiplier where using slugs makes sense or the range doesn’t allow u to use regular shotguns/but u are able to use slugs due to their huge range advantage. aswell as reconstruction in scenarios where u don’t use them just for dps. The convinience of shooting 6-10 bullets on a miniboss is unmatched. For me personally heritage (just because of recombination) still deserves S-Tier and Nessas Oblation deserves to be atleast B-Tier Like whenever I do challenging content (not really into speedrunning, but I love to lowman) and I need a kinetic close range weapon, the answer is always heritage (even tho the damage profile from slugs and their swap damage ain’t the best, being outclassed by most other shotguns) The perkcombination is just too good.
There are two bosses where the crit multi matters + slugs are used and they are in the oldest raid currently in the game, one of which isn't really even a normal boss (Shuro), so I didn't think that was enough of a benefit to push slugs into relevance
@@TheAegisRelic wait is it only shuro chi, kalli and caiatl and Oryx with a higher crit Multiplier currently? What happened to the witch type model. Ok if it’s only the case with 2 bosses, the sorry. I had some wrong information there. But what about my other mentioned points. I still think these 2 shotties deserve to move up a tier.
I’m confused what makes one small step better than wastelander as a one two punch shotgun. You said it doesn’t have the same perks but they both have lead from gold and one two. In fact wastelander is enhanceable as well. I’m just wondering which one to grind for and that comment confused me.
If you were to make another video like this I think it would be helpful to show a light gg, d2foundry, or another equivalent with all the perks visible when talking about a gun. I know you’re going over them audibly but a visual component would be nice

When you take into consideration the Rasputin's Arsenal origin trait on the Ikelos it puts it way over the top. Refilling half the mag when braking a shield is great utility.

So glad someone actually saying Dead Weight and Xenoclast are good, I've been trying to sell my friends on them since they came out and they just won't believe me.
I know why you’re valuing certain elements because matching surges has become Uber important. However I would argue strand and void deserve some credit with being able to gain a small but unique damage bonus from unraveling and volatile rounds respectively. Another thing is you may wanna add some non copyright elevator music to the background. Although mainly a informative video it would help the viewing experience in the future.
Also Volatile isn't consistently up for enough of the phase to be notable on a minor damage component and shotguns are low fire rate, Unravel can be sourced elsewhere relatively easily in team settings
Cracked video man, you've been consistently putting out great stuff! I saw that you ranked snipes and fusions in the spreadsheet as well, do you plan on having a video for those to talk over your thoughts?
The fact that you rate them for damage rotations as well as utility in the same tier list makes confusing results. I imagine how hard it is to do this kind of tier list, but even top players would never choose some A tier option in most situation compared to some B tier. I think you rated them at how good they are at doing their job, but its like comparing in the same tier list a good surgeon and a good lawyer.
@TheAegisRelic While I understand your point, I still stand by mine. I still think a perfect video would be one where every weapon would be rated separately for utility/DPS by themself/DPS rotation. Your work is already extremely valuable don't get me wrong but I guess you understand that for example choosing between imperial decree or wastelander can't be just done by saying one is better than the other, they don't serve the same purpose.

Even though you put it in C tier I still want to get my hands on sword breaker. I know Aztecross lose this shotgun with slide shot and one two punch on it for his strand titan build. It's actually pretty good this season since 2 of the artifact perks buff strand weapons. There's one that gives your strand weapons unraveling rounds and the other is that strand has a chance to suspend targets or stasis weapons has a chance to freeze targets. Strand is still quite meta even with the nerfs to banner of war.
To be fair. Until its return gets really nasty with unraveling rounds. Put the fragment for unraveling rounds on my titan with the tangle damage gives melee fragment and synthos etc, shotgun had overflow and trench barrel. pretty nice in tier 3 altars. Allows you to carve a path to the tangles no problem.
Is there any reason why exotics aren’t included. While obviously you wouldn’t/couldn’t use them with tractor or gally some of them still feel like it would fit well into this vid. Regardless super great video like normal. Your effort shows through in all your content, keep it up
This video came at a convenient time as I now need an arc 12p shotgun to pair with the Song of IrYut (previously was using basso and commemoration) It’ll go great with the banner of war build. I was worried because the best in slot shotgun was from gambit (I refuse to play it) but seeing xenoclast is also worth it is nice
Love these vids. Can you explain your change in preference from lightweights swapping to aggressive swapping? Think you had a video about using lightweights so just wanted to know what changed.
123 swapping bypasses the slow fire rate, which was a limitation on aggressives before if you did 1212 swapping, I'm a lot happier with aggressives if you 123 swap instead, which was something I was less convinced of at the time
I think I have more questions than answers at this point. Like, why is Heritage still the highest ranked shotgun in the DPS spreadsheet? Why does the element of a rapid-fire matter if you'd switch to an aggressive for DPS? When and why would you pick Surplus over ALH?
Heritage is craftable, never needs reloading, is kinetic, and has three solid dmg perks. elements matter to match surge mods of your heavy weapon. surplus is better for short phases when you dont need to reload either shotgun in your swap combo.
Heritage is good for short rotations because of Recombination but I'm ranking holistically and that is only one small piece of the puzzle Rapids are used for boss DPS in some circumstances but surges are not as important for them - that is a compromise I had to make when scoring affinities You pick Surplus over ALH when you're using RoF or TDS
@TheAegisRelic that's fair. I was thinking it might have potential as a tractor warlock with the final shape solar super and rain of fire. Something like Boop Swap to one small step Nade, pop super, Mag dump Swap to ikelos for cascade point Icarus dash and boop Swap to one small step and nade And so on. Probably not top tier and we have to wait for final shape to try it, but definitely an interesting and unique concept.
Another great vid. Not sure if I missed it but could you clarify which archetypes are best for - Pellet swapping (aggressive?) 1-2 punch Trench barrel Thanks
Cool list! I have to say I tend to rank things, especially for end game, in more of a how well they preform in their niche standpoint and completely honestly when ur comes to the role of rapid shotties in places I’m using shotguns at all they tend to be kinda rare. I mean, maybe I’d agree if I ran srs but for any lowman the only shottys ever used are slugs / lightweights and for day one outside of OTP (which I prefer on lightweights or smth like mindbenders for the origin trait) are MAYBE double lightweight / aggro / slug depending on factors.
Hey man, what is the build you use at the beggining to shoot out so many projectiles with all your weapons? I'm kind of new to the game and got really interested by it. Also your guides helped me a lot on guiding my objectives going foward in the game, keep up the great work!
kinda surprised you didn't give any bonus to enhanced 1-2p. being able to hit 2 fewer pellets goes a long way when doing things like grapple melee chains
The Rapid fire meta. Echtar is a funny boss, I found double slugging on a titan better than double aggresives. This is because you can proc surrounded quite easily, so fortissimo + Filo. I said this then remembered: Imperial and sudden death can also get surrounded...

Put the fragment for unraveling rounds on my titan with the tangle damage gives melee fragment and synthos etc, shotgun had overflow and trench barrel. pretty nice in tier 3 altars. Allows you to carve a path to the tangles no problem.
Also, as Grapple melee counts as a powered melee, I use Until it Returns with trench barrel to get off three high damage shots immediately on melee
Bro was running that NF like it was a seasonal mode💀💀
Is there any reason why exotics aren’t included. While obviously you wouldn’t/couldn’t use them with tractor or gally some of them still feel like it would fit well into this vid.
Regardless super great video like normal. Your effort shows through in all your content, keep it up
Exotic tier list coming soon :)
@@TheAegisRelicthank you!!!
the Osmosis Demo Fortissimo may be powercrept, but it is my favorite slug
This video came at a convenient time as I now need an arc 12p shotgun to pair with the Song of IrYut (previously was using basso and commemoration)
It’ll go great with the banner of war build. I was worried because the best in slot shotgun was from gambit (I refuse to play it) but seeing xenoclast is also worth it is nice
1 hour aegis vid wonderfull
once the double fire frame void rocket from tfs raid drops you will see the power of nessas
Sheeshers
Idk but that pause before he said the prophet of doom might be the worst shotgun in the game made me bust out laughing.
Heritage is good for short rotations because of Recombination but I'm ranking holistically and that is only one small piece of the puzzle
Rapids are used for boss DPS in some circumstances but surges are not as important for them - that is a compromise I had to make when scoring affinities
You pick Surplus over ALH when you're using RoF or TDS
amazing vid thx for all tge great info
Envious assassin is pretty godly rn
A Sudden Death is now Void? Damn that changed fast.
I think that one thing to think about with one small step is osmosis for surge stacking purposes. Very niche, but could be interesting.
Osmosis doesn't persist post-swap and nade on the shotgun means no nade on the heavy and uptime isn't that high either
@TheAegisRelic that's fair.
I was thinking it might have potential as a tractor warlock with the final shape solar super and rain of fire.
Something like
Boop
Swap to one small step
Nade, pop super, Mag dump
Swap to ikelos for cascade point
Icarus dash and boop
Swap to one small step and nade
And so on.
Probably not top tier and we have to wait for final shape to try it, but definitely an interesting and unique concept.
stubborn oak
Another great vid. Not sure if I missed it but could you clarify which archetypes are best for -
Pellet swapping (aggressive?)
1-2 punch
Trench barrel
Thanks
123 aggressives > 1212 lightweights
Rapids or lightweights
Aggressives only
That's more a result of precedent and if history were ignored, trust me people would use rapids more
@@TheAegisRelic where do you find urself using rapids most?
Everything but boss DPS, can even be used in boss DPS
Hey man, what is the build you use at the beggining to shoot out so many projectiles with all your weapons? I'm kind of new to the game and got really interested by it.
Also your guides helped me a lot on guiding my objectives going foward in the game, keep up the great work!
This was during the Craftening bug haha
kinda surprised you didn't give any bonus to enhanced 1-2p. being able to hit 2 fewer pellets goes a long way when doing things like grapple melee chains
I mentioned it briefly on one of the shotguns I think but it's a nice to have yeah
Who would watch an hour long pve shotgun video?? Me, that's who
i need more of these for other weapons so i can finally clear out my vault
Been trying to get the xenoclast 4 for four seasons! Haha I love it when a weapon has 4 million perks tehehehe!
Babe wake up aegis posted
hey Aegis. Can you make a tier list about ranking all most popular builds for each subclass?
Yeah it's in the works at some point
Graverobber + 1-2 punch xeno is my arc hunter baby
The Rapid fire meta.
Echtar is a funny boss, I found double slugging on a titan better than double aggresives. This is because you can proc surrounded quite easily, so fortissimo + Filo.
I said this then remembered: Imperial and sudden death can also get surrounded...
