Great video, Christian! I've been so curious about this unit since it was announced... I've had an SSL Xlogic G for a couple years... this unit looks and sounds amazing, but I think I'm gonna stick with what I have for now. I would consider this, if SSL would have added remote control via plugin like Bettermaker does... but perhaps that will be in the future. Thanks for putting such high quality reviews and demos together... appreciate the time you spend on making such top quality content.

Great review as always Christian, those mixes sounded incredible. Just want to ask you if you're gonna review FLEA microphones, they have great reviews all-around the internet and maybe also some C12 model (although you have the review of the 414 vintage series). Cheers!

I have a FLEA 251 and it’s incredible. Best mic I’ve ever used. I did not like the FLEA C12 and returned it. If that helps.

WOW! Just WOW, this is all I can say, what a incredible sounding unit. Did you have any thing to do with the recording or mixing of this song? it's sounds great, very pro in my opinion. Thank you.

@@SoundPeke I've watched so many comparisons and in all honest the S5 is just as good as the top brands. The downside is the autofocus. It's ok in this generation but ofc not as good as Sony/Canon. For pics it's ace though!

So I played a game. I get into the music and just close my eyes and open them when I hear a change hoping it's bypass or not... I didn't hear any change at all :D I mean of course when // wet is 100% or make up moves. But else the few times I looked it was just bypassed. I'm sure it's me and I just said that so you guys feel conforted in your surgeon ears.

Yeah, I have to agree......I'm finding most of the demos of this unit far too subtle to make any serious critical judgement. Obviously, there are slight differences in tone and overall level, but I'm not hearing a huge amount of character from the 4K mode, or THD.....the drum mix was especially underwhelming!
I was getting worked up at the thought of buying this unit when I first saw it, but there's nothing here that screams out 'buy me' that I can't get from using a handful of plug ins and my outboard gear. Having said that, I'm not a mastering engineer that gets paid thousands to brick wall limit commercial pop releases for the radio....sooooo?!?

awesome video. i‘m thinking about getting one piece of hardware for my master bus. i‘m doing a lot of orechestral mockups (williams, michael giacchino, alan silvestri style). but also doing all kind of music when needed. so mockups sound always a bit dead. thinking about buying the stam SA4000-5 MK2, sslg-bus 500, ssl bus+ or ssl fusion. do you think that make sense? what hardware what you recommend on the master bus? great channel, thank you, all the best

Hey! One great to add some vibe and glue is saturation. So I'd definitely look into a box that has that. I enjoyed the dynamic eq section here as well but it would be a nightmare to recall if you have to do that. But if you're going to use somewhat static settings the Busplus works wonders. Thanks for watching ✌️

There’s always Session Recall for future reference, which makes setting things up again a cinch.

This rock style is the perfect middle ground to demonstrate what the SSL can do… you can go heavier or lighter and have a good idea on what it will do. SSL was quintessential for this rock style..
