I thought this from the IMDb's synopsis. But aside from a young Latina caretaker inheriting money after her old patient died, it's quite different. Now, I'm not saying it's good (Knives Out is amazing, tho), but it has it's own spin - No family and relatives, the caretaker is married and her spousal issues take the front, there's a jewelry heist... It has some similarities with that much better 2019 film, but it's far from being a ripoff.

My thing about the movie is that the POCs couldn't just be POCS. Let me explain: If you didn't notice, the Asian lawyer chick had 2 last names. I didn't bother remembering names, but her first last name was a common asian name and her 2nd last name was a common American name. This probably is kind of irrelevant in a grade scheme of things, but as I was watching this movie, I kept thinking... Why couldn't she just have her first last name and that's it? Kennie has mentioned in another movie that Asians can never be Asians. They have to be condensed to an "acceptable" form. Like, why did she have to have a 2nd American last name added?????
Next... The black guy was a disgrace. I am black, and I was not happy with his character at all. He came off as ignorant and greedy. It didn't help that he is poor... As black people, literally the ONLY representation that we want are black characters that don't fit stereotypes. Honestly, we would be happy with a boring romance movie about a married black couple living in a suburbs. Instead, we get these movies trying to pander to us, with negative stereotypes.
Last thing, the movie tried really hard to be "diverse", but it made me not like the movie even more that the ONLY POCs that were in the movie had to die at the end... And one of them as a villan...

Working for a Healthcare Agency I've noticed that the old guy's actions really aren't all that strange. We've had clients who personally pay their caretakers extra money (even though they get paid through the agency). When some of them die, their families do offer their caregivers things (one of them got a whole car). But when they die, there's never usually this big investigation because they're old. The only reason the caregiver is even there is to help them through their last days.

Aspiring mortician here! It annoys the hell out of me when there’s a corpse in a movie, but no one seems to be bothered by the smell. You shit yourself HARD almost instantaneously after you die, and if the old man was already pretty close to dying he probably would have had rotting on his feet too. Both of those things create a violently disgusting smell. The body in the attic should have been 70% soup and sludge by the time they found it, and it would also smell atrocious, and the stench would have probably set into the wood. Unless they’re the people in fabreeze commercials, they should have been gagging on the smell the minute they entered the house.

That's always been my problem with horror movies. Whenever theres a dead body whether fresh or not, NOBODY REACTS TO THE SMELL. Death has a distinctive smell and it can even linger in your hair and clothes. That's why I find it hard that when the characters are near a dead body nobody gags, pukes, covers their nose, go looking for where the smell is coming from, just nothing. They just shrug it off or dont react at all and it really diminishes the terror when that detail is left out.

About the Asian characters with "non-Asian" names in American Tv/film: I feel mixed about whether or not Asian characters in film should have Asian -sounding names or not. I was adopted by white parents and have lived in Oregon my whole life, and my full name is very Western, and though I have a given Chinese name I don't use it. And on the other hand, there are plenty of second/third/other generation Asian-Americans with Asian surnames. Giving every Asian character a very Asian name seems like a stereotype, and giving every Asian character a very white name are both a bit problematic? I don't know. I'm more concerned with the fact that Asians and Asian-Americans are still very invisible in Hollywood.
