I tried to have some fun with one of these once and my friends thought I was having a seizure... Saying that this adds another difficulty level to playing is an understatement
Brad paisley melts butter in his right hand while paving roads with his left. They come together on his tele (g bender) to make the most soul jerking riffs.
I've been playing guitar 30+ years now, an old metalhead 80's dude, but have always had a country taste. I NEVER KNEW such a device existed. I've even built a few a guitars. My mind is a bit blown right now. And I never knew Brad Paisley was such a badass guitarist. I will be diving into this further.
B-benders have been around since the late Clarence White - then of the Byrds - did "Sweethearts of the Rodeo" with that band. It was once called the Parsons-White string-bender, in honor of him and Graham Parsons. G-benders came along later. As did devices like the palm pedal, which allows any of the six strings to be raised or lowered in pitch. B-benders got a big boost in Nashville in the 1970s,1980s and after - when legendary Tele-master Albert Lee started using one on sessions at various times. He was one of the top guys in town at the time, so after that, a lot more players started looking into them. Got to love those steel-guitar like sounds!
I've been a guitar player for decades and played in several bands along the way. This guy is a chicken pickin' king on that 6 string! Not too big on his mainstream pop country music but I am absolutely impressed with his play.

YOU are one of THE VERY BEST! I recently bought a TELE 40th Anniv Squier, with the idea of having a Certano G & B Bender installed on it, which I did. I love it, and although Certano is from France, David Certano gave great customer service. And the Install process is not as severe as what I saw you had to do on installing a B Bender using the Gtr strap. I do remember the Byrds doing it first. Other than Brad, I've also seen it done by the Eagles as he said in this video, but also Diamond Rio and Alan Jackson's lead Gtr player. The sound is distinct. The idea came from my buying a Dobro from the Jackson Steel Gtr Co, that had a special EDGE Bridge on it, that bends 3 of the strings, 2nd, 4th and 5th all at once. It is set up in E Tuning for that reason. Still getting used to it, but I had played a pedal steel and a 5-string banjo yrs ago----not at the same time-----haha, so also fingerpick a Gtr and was used to that. With the Tele and Bender, that process is just a bit easier. I just wish there were some YT LESSONS on the Certano Bender. Thanks for this video.

Brad is in my top guitarists list - like my list matters! Most of my favorites are from back in the day: James Burton, Roy Nichols, Clarence White, Albert Lee, Danny Gatton, etc. Brad took all of the great aspects of country and jazz and blended it into his style.
Gibson had a limited edition model in 2013 with a string bender. It was called the Music City Junior. It is an LP Jr. shaped ash body in a natural finish with a maple neck and fretboard with two P-90s (don’t know why they called it a Junior instead of a Special) and the Glaser string bender that can be used on the B or G string. I really want one, but they are insanely hard to find now.
Dude I always wondered why country dudes wiggle their guitars like that I seriously thought that’s just what country guitar players did like it was like wearing leather pants in rock and roll
Brad is quite possibly the greatest guitar player I’ve ever heard or seen. He’s so underrated and his understanding of music theory is beyond anyone I’ve ever seen. I bet he could play metal by ear.
+rbagel55 He's definitely one of THE greatest guitarists picking these days. Not a big fan of the country music of today, but there's no denying Brad Paisley's skills & chops.
+MetalCarn we dont have to get into a deep discussion about this, but why do you hate country? Do you immediately dismiss it before listening? Maybe I am being unfair, but in my experience, when I ask people, they said its "because it's about dogs running away and people crying on their farms". And I cant think of one song, ever, that has anything to do with that. Regardless, yes, I've done well trying to emulate other guitarists but for whatever reason, trying to play like Brad still eludes me haha he's really good.
The Post Color Blog He probably thinks that. Perhaps he young and has a narrow mind. I know I did when I was young. I was a rocker, Led Zepplin, Montrose, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and the likes. It isn't that way nowadatys for me because I am a musician myself and I like any kind of music whether it be Rock, Metal , Country, Jazz, Latin, or Classical.About the only stuff I don't like is that extreme metal (screaming shit) and hardcore gansta rap
When I learned about bender guitars. It was always a B-Bender. The G-Bender, at least to me, sounds distinctly like Brad. He's got a signature style like some of my favorite rock guitarists like EVH, Joe Satriani, and George Lynch. I could listen to his guitar work for days on end and not get bored
Brad’s always been one of my favourite players. He’s a phenomenal musician. Songwriter, guitar player, entertainer. Everyone should check out his first 3 albums, the guy was smoking back then. He kind of went the bro country route after 5th Gear but hey they all do to stay on the charts
I've never been a massive paisley fan, but I love country. The term "country," just like rock, folk, blues, etc is such a massively broad term that people shove a whole ton of different styles into cause its easier to market. Dont dismiss a genre (any genre) just because of the name of it, research and find different styles and I guarantee you'll probably find some shit you dig everywhere
Well said Tyler because most of the crap they call country today Just aint. Makes me wanna roll ma wyndo down literally. I like the older music of every style better. It's more authentic to it's roots.
Say what you want about country music but there's no denying Brad is one of the best guitar players ever. Seeing him live was the impetus that made me pick up guitar.
Check out Chet Atkins. Or Vince Gill. That's the beauty of live music, you might think you don't like something, but you watch someone play and find yourself really diggin it. Waylon Jennings is cool electric country. I'm a hard rock and funk fan, but the country guys can play!
Here in Texas, country music is something that you can't escape. But I love it and play in a country band. My friends, however, have their opinions. Lol. So I'll show em someone like Brad and they quickly change their minds.
Mooseboy08 Keith is a beast!! I got some free tix to see him in Austin like 5 years ago. I went, not because I was a fan, but because it was free. I was blown away!!! He's a killer guitar player. I was sold when he played Devil Went Down to Georgia.

It makes me sick to listen to him play because he is that Damn good. I'm not a country player but I wish i had chops like brad.
Jacob Stratton practice
Brad is in my top guitarists list - like my list matters! Most of my favorites are from back in the day: James Burton, Roy Nichols, Clarence White, Albert Lee, Danny Gatton, etc. Brad took all of the great aspects of country and jazz and blended it into his style.
Im a les paul guy for ever but damn I like those teles with b-benders Im so getting one
Brad's a great picker...it's what drew me to his music and still keeps me coming back
I like the sound of a G string. "That's what" -She
It’s always fun to watch someone talking in a foreign language! 😆 🎸
Dude I always wondered why country dudes wiggle their guitars like that I seriously thought that’s just what country guitar players did like it was like wearing leather pants in rock and roll
hahaha i love that
same here!
Lol right?! Long before I knew what a bender was. 😂
As a predominantly Djent/Metal player, Bead Paisley is in my top 3 players. The man can absolutely SHRED.
Would love to see a Brad and John 5 collaboration
Brad is quite possibly the greatest guitar player I’ve ever heard or seen. He’s so underrated and his understanding of music theory is beyond anyone I’ve ever seen. I bet he could play metal by ear.
he plays a lifetime of licks in 3 mins........
right ?
Saw him live and continue to at the Rodeo. This guy can shred, and I appreciate that he can navigate the guitar as well as he can.
Fuck he's good
I saw him in concert the other night. It was incredible to say the least.
@@rossreeder387 he usually is, he’s always been one of my favorites
I love old school country, and he's legit.
Some of the country guys are great guitarists. Definitely overlooked some..
I don't listen to country but I have major respect for the musicians talent in the industry
Im not a country guy, but he got some really good playing going on. Kinda reminds me of Jerry Reed a little.
+triggSerable Im the same way man. I hate country but he is a beast of a guitar player
+triggSerable I think Brad is the most influential Country guitar picker to come out in a good while, he is a hella of a picker
The Post Color Blog
He probably thinks that. Perhaps he young
and has a narrow mind. I know I did when I was young. I was a rocker, Led Zepplin,
Montrose, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath
and the likes. It isn't that way nowadatys
for me because I am a musician myself
and I like any kind of music whether it be
Rock, Metal , Country, Jazz, Latin, or Classical.About the only stuff I don't like is that
extreme metal (screaming shit) and hardcore
gansta rap
When I learned about bender guitars. It was always a B-Bender. The G-Bender, at least to me, sounds distinctly like Brad. He's got a signature style like some of my favorite rock guitarists like EVH, Joe Satriani, and George Lynch. I could listen to his guitar work for days on end and not get bored
What a killer guitarist!!
Paisley is one of the most underrated guitar players in the world.
anybody know what pedal he is using for his slapback? it is perfect.
My friend opened for Brad on tour for a long time and told me Brad is a total guitar nerd!
Say what you want about country music but there's no denying Brad is one of the best guitar players ever. Seeing him live was the impetus that made me pick up guitar.
I'm not much of a country fan but this is dope, brad definitely knows what he's doing
Really surprised at how nicely he plays. Country stars don’t get enough musicianship credit
Real country is one of the most difficult things to play. I don’t even dare go to country.
I could listen to him play all day! Such a great player!
ALSO MADE IS A COMBINATION B@G BENDER IN 1 GUITAR , COOLEST DAM THING I EVER SAW !!
That tele is so majestic, exactly what a tele should sound like
Don’t listen to country, but this dude seems pretty legit
Holy hell I love country music and I had absolutely no idea he was this amazing! Damn!!!!
Not a fan of country but still found this interesting
Saw him in concert once. Surprised at how well he could play, even shred.
Came here to talk shit about brad but after watching this vid brad is a great guitarist !
Check out Chet Atkins. Or Vince Gill. That's the beauty of live music, you might think you don't like something, but you watch someone play and find yourself really diggin it. Waylon Jennings is cool electric country. I'm a hard rock and funk fan, but the country guys can play!
Brad is the real deal, just like Keith Urban.
Saw Brad in concert last year, he did an epic cover of Hot For Teacher.
Zac Brown and his band have some other-worldly skills too
If you can play like Brad, you hardly need this gadget; but he makes beautiful use of it! Thanks for this nice demo.
i also like the sound of a g-string, but i like the looks of it even more.
:D
Modestoney not if you ever saw my uncle wearing his....uuhhhhggg!
Paisley. Amazely! And the tone from that Tele! I have yet to hear that from any that I've tried at GC.
