    Couple is the client, not our colleagues. It’s a tough pill to swallow sometimes, especially with imposter syndrome, but it’s so real

      I agree. Clients are booking professionals for a service provided, not friends. Unfortunately, many prominent videographers and photographers on this platform pushing their online course enforce the idea of being your clients friend right off the bat asking them all kinds of personal questions by first email, phone call, consultation etc. Cringe AF.

      For some reasons I've experienced a whole lot of difference from this topic. Most of my happy clients are now introducing me into their circles (Personal & professional). Humanity beyond clientele

    I wouldn't second, I would assist. I feel assisting gives you a very unique vantage point that comes in handy down the road. And good point on renting, adding to your point, I buy used out of Japan. Outside of two pieces, all my gear was picked up used. ✨
    And I gotta personally disagree on the impressing your couple point, I actually took the "impress myself and the right client will show up" concept as part of my rebranding. While it's super niched down, the two clients I do book appreciative that someone out there is just like them.
    But yeah man, I feel ya, for decades I created work to impress photographers, editors, magazines, the Instagram algorithm, etc., but not myself. While the work was good, it felt fake, as most of the wedding industry is. And sadly because of it, I now have a long standing resentment towards the wedding industry. But as Sinatra once said, I'm gonna do things my way now.

    Hey there! I love your work. I recently bought an FX30..I'm curious when your in slog 3..how do you expose for skin tones? I see so many different opinions on zebra settings...70..or slog clipping point...just curious how you expose...I've been using false color and over exposing slog around 1.7 to 2 stops but still not really happy

    Loved all of this! Would you mind telling me what aspect ratio you use for the black bars of your wedding films?

    Pocket 4k $1,200 then you also get a free version of DaVinci Resolve studio. Plus you learn manual focus really well lol. I am all about the pocket 4k fx3 or 30 combo. Great video. Wish i watched this 4 years ago lol.

    If it doesn't have 4k it's kinda tough to not jobs nowadays tbh. No camera, no $. They see the big rig they think you know what you're doing. Even if you go all in and went crazy buying gear and then paid it off with 1 client then what... you need more clients. Its a never ending cycle. Hustle hard and earn it absolutely, but I think we must all start to say... keep your day job until you're on level 10 and are shooting big campaigns lol

    Thanks man! Love your videos they've been really helpful as I've learned videography. Serious question though, how the heck do you find second shooter jobs? What's been successful for you? "Cold call" emails? It's something I'm struggling with right now. :)

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question! Second Society is an incredible platform that can help you find jobs. Facebook groups, cold calling sometimes works but not often, most times ppl want to see reputable work before they consider hiring. And if you’re just getting start it may be beneficial to offer assistance for cheaper rates to build up your portfolio.

      That all makes sense to me! I've only got one under my belt so I'm looking to add experience before I jump solo!
      Keep up the great work! I'll have to jump onto your video review services some day when I get going! :)@@WaywardNorth

    Are you no longer doing mentorships? I tried clicking on the link and it went to a 404 not found page. Also, do you think it is way too risky to quit my job and go into wedding videography full time? I have a portfolio with commercials and music videos. I am in the process of editing my 1st wedding. I have 1 commercial client that is booking his 2nd session next month that will help me out a lot. I have an emergency fund of about 3-6 months saved w/ no debt. Should I quit and go full time? Or is the market over-saturated?
