I have new ready-made shams, and the opening is about 1-1/2 inch from the short edge. It is so much easier to insert the pillow, and I will never go back to the center opening. Give it a try. Beautiful fabrics in this video.
Omg, be still my heart! I love this!! It’s adorable. It makes me want to rush right off to the fabric store and try!! I can’t wait to try this. So creative and and fun. Thank you, Sheryl.
Very detailed and great video. I made a pair of queen size. Just a heads up, the measurements for cutting the queen size back pieces seem to be too short. They don’t overlap at all, have a gap of several inches. I’m going to use one of the short ones I cut and hemmed and then cut a new piece to replace the other side so that they overlap and the the spot to insert the pillow will be offset to one side.
My grandson asked me to tell you that you make it look “Easy Peasy, Fresh And Breezy” to make this. He asked me to make him one with Pokémon fabrics to match the curtains I made for him. Thank you!
I really wish someone would do a tutorial on how to turn an existing store-bought pillow sham into a pillowcase. I never use pillow shams and I got two when I bought a gorgeous new duvet cover and would like to turn the pillow shams into two pillowcases. It's great fabric but can't find a tutorial so we'll just try to wing it and do it myself. Luckily I know how to sew! Would be great if you could add something like that
here’s what you do, cut one end, take some of the side stitch’s out, attach a folded piece of fabric (4.5” folded/9” unfolded--fold is length wise). stitch this 4.5” fabric to your pillow sham, stitch the side closed, which now includes the 4.5 trim you added!
I want to make this for a standard size pillow for my 2 small grandkids using fabrics with dinosaurs and one with unicorn glow in the dark fabric I just bought. . What would the measurements be for that?

I also think I will add a lining over the batting. That way the batting won't get ripped and will also make it easier to get the pillow in.
Great suggestion. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍

I love this project, i do have a question, is there another fabric that cover inside the cotton batting?
You can use a plain layer of fabric on the inside. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
