    The gatekeeper is proof, portal axles are NOT needed! 👍
    The "hard plastic" is the same as AE's team/FT carbon fiber/plastic mix they've done in team & factory team kits for years. It's basically carbon infused plastic. (Retired AE sponsored racer)

    Nice review. This is a gem waiting to be polished! I think it deserves a sensored brushless system and a better radio. High COG - just something to be adjusted, I'd take that anti roll bar off too... Then a motor gear for crawling and another one for bashing. Ideal project!

      yeah, we're using the highest quality motor that is highly programmable. Not sure a radio will help it any. Definitely need some body and chassis tuning. Might be better with a different body

    I'm a bit disappointed you never ran through the new features of this chassis kit... ie the new design aluminium inserts for shock towers with multiple mounting locations and the aluminium adjustable panhard mount for different ride height steering geometry. This kit is a great platform for a number of different truck builds if someone doesn't want a tube type body.
    A pre-runner or desert truck with trailing arms and ifs by adding the ifs kit to it would be awesome.
    Cheers 👍

    Good insightful review FC. Lets me know that the Gatekeeper is probably not my thing.
    But, would certainly space the wheels outward and lower things overall to address the tippy issue.
    Strange that the receiver box wasn't mounted to the chassis to make it useable. Guessing that the 3D printer guys will easily tackle that issue.

    I forgot to tell you, I found pre-sleeved axles for the Element Enduro platform from Beeftubes. Couldn't locate full metal ones so I went with these. They offer them in both kinds of plastic, though I don't know why anyone would want brass-lined soft plastic axles. Guess I'll use these while I wait for full metal versions. Price is about 58$ each and only sold pre-installed. Are those the J Concepts tires?

Wheel weights and a brass diff cover with some steel bead locks are all you need to make this thing capable, add a better motor esc combo and it just gets better. All on all pretty sick rig lots of things you can do to make it work but definitely need some upgrades to make it less of a racer and more of a crawler

    I can't wait for upgrades to start coming out, I've been looking everyday for them lmao. I just want some metal trailing arms. I put a mamba x 2280kv in mine and it's still not enough power I'm probably going to order the 2800kv soon. I also went with the 12 percent overdrive, sucks I finished mine and its been raining so I dont want to drive my new rig in mud and rain lol.

    • @nielsmeer
      @nielsmeer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Finished my build today. I have Mamba X 2850KV with 6.5 overdrive and 17t pinion to start. Feels like a good balance of speed. My other rigs are brushed with ~1400KV equivalent, so this definitely has more punch and top speed.

    • @stpbasss3773
      @stpbasss3773 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nielsmeer I was surprised how slow the 2280 was because I have a axe 2700kv in my trx4 and it does like 25mph its insane lol. My mamba 2280 is like the same speed as my brushed 16turn reedy radon motor. I'm going to bump the pinion way up and see if that does it for me. I'm using a 18 right now and on 3s the motor barley gets warm so I know it can handle a way bigger pinion.

    • @nielsmeer
      @nielsmeer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stpbasss3773 Gearing has a big effect. With an 18t and 2200kv motor and 4.75” tires, you should be just over 8 MPH on 3S. Mine with 17t and 4.19 tires and 2850KV is also around 8MPH. I also have a 20T ready to go in, that would bump to about 9.5 MPH. Sticking with 17t and switching to 4.75 tires would bump to 10.5 MPH. Combining 4.75, 2850KV and 20t would be around 12 MPH. Most crawlers are in the 40-60:1 range for overall drive ratio, so ~10MPH max is normal.

      @stpbasss3773 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nielsmeer I just ordered a used 3800kv castle slate to swap it out with, it's the same one I use in my bomber and I love it. I will probably sell the 2280 now or maybe put it in my sendero. You can never have too much electronics anyways lmao.

    • @nielsmeer
      @nielsmeer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. I picked up a 3300KV as well in case the 2850 was too slow. Tried Gatekeeper with 4.75 tires today and went back & forth with my Capra. Much quicker than the Capra, but low speed modulation with Holmes BRXL ESC and Crawlmaster Pro in my Capra is much better than brushless in the Gatekeeper. Fine for me as Capra is better crawler and Gatekeeper is better rock racer.
