All I can say is if we ever get a proper film made about the Battle of Samar this should be the soundtrack if the USS Johnston DD-557 is shown steaming back into attack the Japanese battleships with her wounded captain Commander Ernest E Evans commanding from the fantail and barking orders after the bridge of the ship had been destroyed. As a former destroyer sailor I've played that one over in my mind many times.
My late father served in the Pacific during WWll. He had been in the army prior to WWll. He chose to join the navy, though, and served on a ship in the Pacific. This hymn sung by these men is absolutely beautiful.
When I was young boy, my father would take me to church at North Island NAS. They would sing this every Sunday about Pilots. I knew the women there were pilos wifes. I prayed for them.
Rest In Peace President Jimmy Carter!!
USS Jimmy Carter is at the Naval Shipyard in Bremerton Washington. Rest in Peace, Mr President

Excellent thank you USNA.
A favorite hymn…so proud and happy that it’s the Navy’s.
