The pianist is Dominique Ponty, excellent pianist and piano teacher and such a beautiful person ! She was my piano teacher at Conservatoire d'Evreux, France, in my late 70s - early 80s years. Always trying to give pieces to play that fit your personnality in addition to the classical masterpieces. She was very open-minded with a delicate "toucher" ! She was the pianist of french composer Olivier Messian too. I miss her !
I had great fortune to hear him live in my early 20's at Dartington College of Arts (RIP, both were extraordinary experimentalists yet rigourously disciplined). He preformed in the Great Hall, which acoustically supported his music to perfection. What a privilege that was..thank you for sharing. Thank you Moondog

Im currennty listening to Saties complete piano works. And after a few days (and many many hours) i just recognized that Moondogs compositions are in a certain way similar in their reduced and essential artstyle. Moondog however is jazz-ier. (and both, Satie and Moondog, seemed to be quite eccentric and unique)
There sure should be I have loved since I was eleven I am 74 hopefully before I go away that would be very special he was a street performer in new York when I was a kid in Seattle I got ahold of one of his records he was just facinateing to me but was very ashamed of how cooky he was the other kids were going into professional bulldozer driveing lololooo
Idk why no one speaks about moondog. He was fucking amazing.poetic and a brilliant composer and inventer of instruments. And let us not forget he may have the coolest name and all of music

@Ron Maimon "Rips off" - more like a tip of the cap. Everybody must do St. Louis Blues at some point, but Moondog is about the most original composer ever. He doesn't copy ever either. But he does pay his respects to the greats of the past.

Thanks so much for sharing this. So good to hear
She sounds a bit like Jacques Louissier (who did some great Bach-adaptations to jazz).
How come there hasn't yet been a movie about the life of this outstanding human being
There is supposedly a documentary entitled "The Viking of 6th Avenue" in the works...
Thanks. I hope the work's in progress..@@hickinabiskit

Learned about Moondog from Oxford American magazine (summer 2005) and have enjoyed his music ever since.
This live album is hot❤❤❤❤
here in 2021. First time ever listening to Moondog and I am happy I have discovered this beautiful music.

Louis Hardin… the story of an amazing life through the sound of music
38:00 made me feel emotions I've last seen together a solid 5 years earlier . Thanks for sharing this.
Sounds like a childishly happy american Bach. Beautiful!
Thanks!

Wonderful ! An epitaph to a one off !
Gracias, Buen señor
So fresh and uplifting. The playing is superb!
the last piece is my favorite
Thanks for posting this!
Mille grazie!
A very big one

46:12 a reference to "when you wish upon a star" ? 😂

He plays upon Claire de Lune by Debussy right after that. Beautifully done.
Sorry - that's Debussy starting at 46:12
Must be 2nd movement of Mood Montreaux

Parece folklore argentino unas partes o algo asi
Lagrimas Negras antes de Bebo ?
Vrai et infinitement preferable que John Cage. Point. Aucun indication de hybris dans ses compositions? JAMAIS!
Boton de mil likes no tiene?
Becouse he couldn't see it my opinion only
Interesting: 19th century piano, no? Maybe even a pianoforte?
How are you able to tell?

Your comment sure made me giggle.
This is such an incredible recording. Big thank you for this.
