This is my first day of hearing Moondog's music, it's overwhelming. I'm going from video to video, the accumulating effect of his range is just astounding.
Doing the same thing here. It's been really interesting reading the succession of comments on his videos about just having found out about him. I was kicked back by the fact that he wasn't a new/current artist when I'd heard one track through Pandora, now I find out I've missed a huge amount of stuff. I love it all
Fergus Sweetland - It's a different style, but check out Osamu Kitajima if you get a chance. Moondog kicked me down a rabbit hole of new music and he's one of my favorite artists that I've found since then
I “discovered” Moondog about 3 months ago. What a wonderful thing to be pulled into a piece that totally immerses you. He does it to me so many times. It’s happened to me with a film, or a book, when I haven’t read the reviews and know nothing about what I’m about to experience. I get transported and am unaware of my surroundings (if I’m lucky). This is what this beautiful guy does to me. And I love that, for the most part, he’s a mystery. Stay well, everyone.
makes me cry too bro, but idk if its because of sadness or happiness, but i think i cry because i just appreciate the sounds and it just makes sense you know? Its like just harmonious sounds and yet we somehow understand it and thats what makes it emotional. Its when we finally understand something, that a huge weight is lifted off our shoulders.
Nick Paris "Its when we finally understand something, that a huge weight is lifted off our shoulders." I couldn't have worded it in a better way. This is exactly how I feel when I listen to this composition. What's more, it seems - to me, at least - that this song emulates the very movements of the whole universe. And this arouses a feeling of infinity and of immutable serenity. Or then I guess I'm (once more) getting too emotional.
I'm shocked that there doesn't seem to be ANY films or videos of him playing, even with all these albums and many years of playing on the streets. There must be at least a lot of home movies, I'd love to see one digitized, but it is very surprising that there was not one film made, even toward the end of his life in Germany.
So many emotions contained in one song ... beautiful! Pulses between sadness, fear, joy, euphoria and peace. If someone has had a mushroom trip, they know what an amazing experience it is - to feel several waves of different emotions at once. This is what this piece gives me - the enigmatic world.
Heard of him way back in the 60's, and thought then he was another jazz guy like Sun Ra. However, never heard the music until today. I have been missing out! Beautiful music; I can see Glass being influenced.
If you have ever been to a pow wow then you have heard the Lakota sing a spontaneous call and response singing to the drum like the ebb and flow of a campfire which translates into a resonance of a spirit bigger than anyone.
I don't know if that's his voice or not in his music, but I would love to hear his voice in an interview, or even just his words while talking. It just interests me to want to hear what the man sounds like....the man that made this music... I also want to hear his views on things. I don't know them, but I feel like they won't be the worst views.
Brandon Gunn It's strange, isn't it? That he recorded for so many big labels, and still chose to live his life on the streets. Also that he was so photographed but that his music was so poorly known. You should check out Moondog: The Viking of 6th Avenue, a movie about him scheduled to come out in 2014.
www.kickstarter.com/projects/2131638328/the-viking-of-6th-avenue/posts/873636 i thought this might be of some interest for you . Actually the producers are searching for financial backing !!
It very much reminds me 13 harmonies by John Cage, it of course is a bit less organised, but carries the mood just as well, with a bit of extra mysteriosity. :-) Try it here on youtube
maybe meanwhile you found out. Moondog was blind from age 16. He wrote down his music in braille, without using any instrument. Just from his mind on the paper. he was genius.

Hi ***** that kind of comments make me happy haha. It's incredible how the music can connect people. Thank you so much!! Hey that's something really interesting....I don't know exactly what are you talking about, but I had experiment strange things, something similar to an orgasm, so was a kind of "electrical sensation"
+Matt Mangham Weird, it happens for me too. I get it from other practices as well, like meditation. Some energy flow in the third eye or what ever. You can get that same feeling in other parts of the body as well.
+Kalervo Ahonen I would normally stay silent on here, but it appears you are (not so) simply connecting to your unconscious while conscious. I would advise you to carefully progress and research further, and without the influence of caffeine, THC, CBD, CBL's, or narcotics which alter the ability of the nervous system to communicate naturally and uninfluenced, but each individual must undertake their own journey of discovery. Developing and maintaining a natural (IE, brain-muscle/tissue) connection to your unconscious mind if a powerful learned skill, one that is not easily identifiable as such, and less-so observable in others, which often leads to, as individuals prior to myself have mentioned, epiphanies of self-discovery OR nervous breakdown, as in the case of abuse of hallucinogenics and depressants, and individuals not "primed" for a realization.
It's the last track on the Elpmas album. It was Moondog's interpretation of the sound of waves. To quote the man himself: "Its unworldly sound brings one close to the essence of things, to the 'peace that passeth all understanding.'"
Felix-Marie Badeau Yes! Just listening to this again it is so still and rich. when awareness is purified of thought .it becomes this dense medium soft clear vivid luminous
Kinda weird. I can't stand ambience, but I can handle this for some reason. Maybe because I'm picturing him playing this while wearing a Viking outfit lol.
sarcastic bowl of cornflakes Appreciate that you've tried to look smart here, but of course the semicolon was added to differentiate it from other languages, like PHP, in which this specific syntax could pass were it not for the semicolon which is optional in js. As for triple negation? No need to obfuscate a joke pseudo code example in a youtube comment thread, the point was for it to be readable. Keep editing though! It shows how hard you're trying to ruin a comment it took me several seconds to write!

For some reason, this composition always reduces me to tears. Whether these come from joy or sadness, I cannot tell.

This is extremely relaxing, the more pressure you have- the harder it is to focus. Beautiful, this is.

it somehow feels like a long journey full of sadness has come to an end
there is a Finality

"another jazz guy like Sun Ra"? there's no other like Sun Ra
I just got this on loop, made it it's own playlist and it automatically repeats. Can literally have this playing all night and day.
so beyond his time, i love him
Non conoscevo Moondog....emozionante...
This particular piece of Moondog's sounds a lot like the work of William Basinski.
Is this for spiritual music??
Thos album is excellent
This is a jewel.
You can hear his voice at the beginning of a track called 'stomping ground' you will find the track on the album simply titled 'Moondog'
If you have ever been to a pow wow then you have heard the Lakota sing a spontaneous call and response singing to the drum like the ebb and flow of a campfire which translates into a resonance of a spirit bigger than anyone.
I am truly saddened, because I have searched all over for this mans voice, yet I can find nothing of it.
I only wish to hear it once.
That is my wish.
I don't know if that's his voice or not in his music, but I would love to hear his voice in an interview, or even just his words while talking.

Ojaquet74 you trolled me good
+Brandon Gunn his voice is in so many of his albums, not only singing, but talking on several of them
This reminds me of stone in focus by Aphex Twin but just a bit faster
this song sounds like one big noise, but somehow manages to not be repetitive
I'll have to meditate to this sometime :)
thérapeutique . chamanique.
vibratons connecting the infinate to the finite
+mario aranda Sure [pat on the head] whatever you say
beautiful
this resonates in me
Oh man...
Is that Saturn over there ?
Forest. Fallen tree in the forest. On the tree lies a naked girl.
It very much reminds me 13 harmonies by John Cage, it of course is a bit less organised, but carries the mood just as well, with a bit of extra mysteriosity. :-) Try it here on youtube
That time a blind street busker invented Max Richter . . .

What the fuck are you people talking about
incredible
Reminds me of Never Cry Wolf.
hmm.. I wonder if Brian Eno had heard this?
25 mins felt like 5
Was this piece used in a movie soundtrack. It sounds familiar to me.
+pythonfan78 it reminds me a lot of Eno's ambient stuff.
🖤

+Kolbeinn Gauti www.discogs.com/Moondog-Elpmas/release/878442

Alguem brasileiro tambem curte este som aí?
Ed Cabruco opa, lógico

Magique
anyone know what the instruments are on this? If I didn't know better I'd say it sounds like the glass harp invented by Benjamin Franklin
CallMeBronco not sure, but he did invent his own instruments
CallMeBronco sounds like pipe organ
+Meli Melo Not surprising.
ya estuvo bueno
Does anybody know what album this is taken from?
Elpmas :-)
how did he compose his music?
Pure heart
Bèèè...!!!
-- Métaphysique. --
why do you use the name "Moondog" ? did he make the music or this piece is some other musician playing some version a Moondog composition?
