In light of the fact that Rivet Games have made an Isle of Wight add-on for Train Sim World 2, I decided to revisit the old IOW route in TS2021. This was the first add-on I ever bought after initially getting Train Simulator, and it was all the way back in December 2013 (when it was called TS2014).
The Isle of Wight route for TS is set in 2011, and includes both the electric Ryde to Shanklin route and the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Unfortunately the steam railway is not included in the TSW2 version, but the Class 483 electric train certainly is. Maybe at some point in the future we could also see the Class 485 and 486 in TSW2.
Incidentally the Isle of Wight is the only route on which I can drive without using the Heads Up Display. I've driven on this route enough times to know where the different speed limits start/end and where to start braking for the next station stop.
Today we'll be playing one of the default scenarios in the IOW pack; called Let The Music Play On. We start at the unique Ryde Pier Head, and our job is to drive a pair of Class 483's (and thus a 4-car train) on a passenger service to Shanklin and back. On the southbound run we will stop at all stations except Smallbrook Junction, but on the way back to Ryde we will stop at Smallbrook too.
The reason why the scenario is called 'Let The Music Play On' is probably a reference to the legendary Isle of Wight Festival.
The railway from Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin is 8.5 miles long, and these are the stations on the line:
    Ryde Pier Head
    Ryde Esplanade
    Ryde St. John's Road
    Smallbrook Junction
    Brading
    Sandown
    Lake
    Shanklin
The line is one of the most unique in all of England. This is due to it being isolated from the rest of the mainland rail network, but most noteably the use of ex-London Underground trains; the Class 483's are modified 1938 tube stock. The ex-tube train tradition on the island dates back to 1967, when a set of 1923 or 'Standard' Stock was repurposed for use on the line. These were reclassified as Class 485 (4-car units) and Class 486 (3-car).
Between 1989 and 1991, the 485/486 fleet was replaced by the 483's. This class consisted of 9 two-car units, with an additional car used only for spare parts.
Nowadays there are just six 483 units that haven't been scrapped yet, but only 483006 and 483008 are still in working order. The Class 483 is set to be retired in early 2021, and the replacements will be more ex-London Underground trains. These will be rebuilt from old D78 stock units and reclassified as Class 484.

Very nice. It reminds me a little of the Epping to Ongar route at the eastern end of the London Underground's Central Line. Do you drive using the keyboard or an Xbox controller or do you use something more exotic?
