I think you should get Apple for your roommate in this playthrough. A bit challenging and end game, post community center, requires some specific crops and you both love the big forest.

Non Destructive NPCS mod combats those rude npcs destroying everything in their path 😅

New 1.6 update actually solved this about the chests, now NPCs don't destroy the chests while walking their way.
