Why do u not know about Pantera til now? Is the disrespect that serious u ask?
The answer is simple. Heavy Metal bands that scream dont get airplay. Heavy metal in general gets no support & no respect in the industry. None, zero. ZIP.
Pantera is GIGANTIC. They had a #1 album in multiple countries *WITHOUT* a song on top 40 radio. I watched them sell out an NBA arena *twice* in 90 days with NO RADIO & no MTV. *think about that for a second.* no really, think about it.........
LITERALLY every album they put out is GOLD certified (even the live album). All but one is Platinum (million + in sales). All this......without radio, just based on an amazing live concert, combined with impressed audiences spreading the word. This led to larger & Larger crowds in subsequent tours worldwide. When Pantera came out everyone took notice. Even bands that had been around for a decade *before* Pantera admitted to being influenced by Pantera.
When Vinnie, Dime, Rex, & Phil walked on stage & Philip said "We are the Kings of Metal" it was the *TRUTH.*

Metal is like soccer. Where soccer is the most popular sport in the world, but in the US its pretty much ignored even though there are millions of fans. With metal its the same thing. Metal gets treated horribly in this country. News will only report on it if it puts the genre in a bad spotlight. Ive seen my local news do reports about different bands/singers being in concert and selling out the arena but never when it was metal/hard rock acts.
one more thing a study was done once and it was found which types of music had the most loyal fans, the top 2 were classical and heavy metal.

Oh and have a lyrics sheet available when doing a video without them, so you can get what it's about.... Makes the song MUCH MORE powerful (if that is even possible hahaha)

They should be in the Hall of Fame. Tragedy struck when Phil, the lead singer, got into heroin, and the band had a falling out. Dimebag started a new band with his brother Vinnie, the drummer, called DamagePlan and went on to record their first album with the new group and go on tour when Dimebag was fatally shot on stage by a crazed fan at the Villa Rosa. And Dime's brother Vinnie passed away from heart complications not too long ago also. It's been tragic. They will be in the HOF one day, just not soon enough in my opinion.

Back when this was new, most of us only had cassette tapes. And if you didn't have very many, your options were this or radio, and radio was NOT going to play Pantera. So we heard and deciphered lyrics from repetition. Also a lot of the albums, cassette and cd, had these long inlay cards with lyrics printed on them. This was life before the internet. Lol!

    1. You don't need no uppers at a metal concert once the adrenaline kicks you feel like your floating you have so much energy. Fun fact a lot of metalheads are straight edge. They rarely drink if they even do drink.
    2. We can understand every word. Word for word. I can't hardly understand rap or hip hop for shit but pretty much any metal band I hear every word.
    3. Pantera is everywhere. T shirts albums concerts and they have been for a long ass time. You just simply don't notice. Same as I don't notice hip hop logos on shirts you just fail to see them I couldn't name 5 rap singers but 50 metal bands off the top of my head, yup. Hell most I can identify by the sound without being told the name of the band.
4 metal is world wide the most popular genre of music out there. It's even bigger outside of the us and it's big here in the US. They get hardly any airtime hardly any promotion or advertising but it's still huge everywhere. That is 1.6 million people in that crowd you watched and that's right after the iron curtain just came down. A people that hardly was able to even buy the albums and it still drew that many people rock isn't dead hell it isn't even struggling. Rock can't be killed and it will out last everything else with ease.

After PANTERA: THE Evolution of Modern Heavy Metal . They are the biggest influence in our modern day Metal music, thier Metal DNA has been planted in every facet of metal across the board. PANTERA is considered one of the GODFATHERS of Metal period. But in my opinion, PANTERA IS THE GODFATHER OF MODERN METAL.

Pantera is 100% usually mentioned with the greats, Dimebag Darrell (their guitarist) is widely regarded as one of the best metal guitarists of all time. Their vocalist actually has some pretty clear pronunciation for that style of metal vocals, it takes some time and exposure to be able to understand it without much effort. When you listen to enough metal of this style you grow to be able to understand it pretty easily. You guys need to go to a metal show, you'd be surprised how friendly metalheads are to people of all races and backgrounds. Tell them you usually listen to rap or whatever but you're expanding your horizons, they'll accept you with open arms just for giving it a chance just like most of the metalheads in your comments here. Everyone is a family at metal shows.
