His only real weakness is mental strength. This seems to be his first taste of what most speedrunners experience on a regular basis -- going for weeks, sometimes even months of daily attempts without a new PB. If he can keep his spirits up, he absolutely has the skill to take this run all the way.
This is a common problem with prodigies. Niftski rose to stardom quicker than most record-breaking runners and is known for breaking more than a few records in a matter of days instead of weeks or months like most runners. People like that tend to have trouble forming frames of reference once they encounter bigger challenges that they can't overcome quickly. He's an astonishingly good runner though. He's one of only a handful I've seen that has "the eyes". By that I mean he can track Mario's footwork and movement in such a way to where he can tell what frame or subpixel he's on in key moments. This a trait you more often see in top fighting game players like Daigo Umehara or Mew2King, where they can "see the frames" even at 60fps. When Niftski misses a trick he usually knows what went wrong most of the time. Whereas when watching other top runners like Kosmic, Somewes, AndrewG....They'd recognize that they didn't execute properly but usually didn't know what *exactly* went wrong. The famous phrase "Bowser please" is very rarely uttered by Niftski (this run was an exception since he had some glaring errors he didn't expect to make) because he enters most rooms knowing what frame he's on and how that relates to the relative Bowser pattern at the end (since he also has all the Bowser patterns memorized; another rare trait even among top runners).

Dude looks unlike a speedrunner so much that he makes all the others look like nerds by also being on another level
Bro is ahead several framerules irl
mario speed runners will need to come up with a new way to compete on this particular run once it is perfected. competition will see a significant drop when its only possible to tie the record. maybe the 'yearly record' or some sort of ladder ranking system to keep competition going. speed runs are great but they will also be their own end once perfected..
L+R runs is what I was thinking
The bicep flex was kind of crying but being a speed runner it’s probably the hardest thing he could have done 😂 mvp fosho
Bro looks so different than I remember
Actually, he looks more like a bro than a freaking gamer kid
It is nice that this game only takes 5ish mins to complete. It means the player can play often, and failure isn't as punishing.
Niftski is the one speedrunner that I think truly is just not human.
11:42 Bro knows how to impress me
I can't get used to Niftski with a bunch of hair on his head🤣
He showed once again he's not from Earth.
GG bro
I don't think I've ever seen Niftski so excited before
This is the first time I've watched a speedrun before a video about the run came out! It popped up in my recommended about a week ago 😁
First time viewer. Fascinating and really awesome made video, with all explanations and zoom-ins etc. Well done
That genuine emotion is amazing to see I'm happy for him.
gotta say, the outro bit really does make these vids 4 me, im a huge dbz nerd and i looove watching speedrun vids from this channel bc theyre always really well made and informative
So glad to have been there for him setting the record!!! He's the GOAT
I thankfully caught this run live, even though I was playing basketball, i was thankfully taking a break at the time.
I didn't realize that this sort of high-level play was viable in emulated play. Wow!
Niftsky's ability to NOT rage is a superpower.
See y'all in February when Niftski somehow saves a 19th frame.
I have a raw cellphone recording of Niftski's popoff live on my channel lmao, no popoff has ever felt so good
Also I filmed raw video of his entire proof process JUST IN CASE lol I know with how many people whine about his keyboard, there may be someone who tries to call b.s. on this run
Kosmic said you don’t actually lose frames by touching the ground in the water room if you do something. It’s free now apparently but I can’t recall what it was that he said.
Niftski will tie the tas. No doubt in my mind. That will be a historic day.
Ah yes. Mario on the keyboard. How fun.
heres me googling the maximum safe heart rate, someones genuinely going to have a heart attack from getting a speedrun wr one day
Can I just say I’ve got *_mad_* respect for this guy who just got a new world record WITHOUT using any profanity? Like -don’t get me wrong- I understand how amazing it must feel to finally achieve something like this; and so I think the alternative reactions are completely justified too. But _DAAAANG_ is it rare to do something like this and all with a clean-language clip I could comfortably share with my mother.
This is truly something awesome! 👏
Abyss abyss, rock the abyss! Abyss Ball Z...! "Waaaaaahooooo!"
"heart rate monitor" reminds me playing at the arcade. can't remember the specific fighter. but every time i played it i would be drenched in sweat by time the quarter was done and the run was over. i never really equated those to cardio
even with these new smartwatches i have trouble telling what get my heart rate up there or not. need to figure out some way of setting things up so i can track what is what. because i could really use the cardio. and my current routes are inconsistent and suboptimal
You can get a chest strap and connect it to bluetooth, they are hyper accurate
This is just incredible
Now I'm sad the we don't have Apollo Legend anymore.
We definitely could use a new "Greatest Pop-Offs in Speedrunning" compilation after this. 😅
This bus starts looking empty.
the gent has me thinking of moving countries
Really cool hotdog on skateboard
we are getting closer and closer to speedrunning history in general being made as we speak.
literal flex just after you set a smb world record is peak. keep winning niftski
"This didn't even phase him." Is that not his heart rate in the top left corner competing with a marathon runner's?
Why is chat sometimes blurred like at 2:11 ?
If there's a single swear in a chat during a clip I'll blur then entire thing since enforcement around swearing is super inconsistent
The insane level of precision when his heartrate is through the roof is mind boggling
perfect vid to start the day. thanks man
Quick gather all sherlock glitch hunters before it's too late, we need to find the most awful game-breaking speedrun-ruining glitch imaginable!!!
Imagine Happylee coming out with a new TAS with new tech, right now...
His only real weakness is mental strength. This seems to be his first taste of what most speedrunners experience on a regular basis -- going for weeks, sometimes even months of daily attempts without a new PB. If he can keep his spirits up, he absolutely has the skill to take this run all the way.
Do you know who niftski is?
@@jimynutrenI don't. Is he used to these kinds of grinds?
@@jimynutren yeah i assume they watched the video
He practices in the background sometimes for long periods before streaming, from what I understand.
His record got recommended to me and i watched the vid but i needed a video like this so I can actually understand what i was watching lol
"how we saved so many frames"

I have no idea what like 90% of this means but it's still terribly exciting!
He's got until September to get the perfect run within 40 years.
12:02 players - niftski
Niftski flexing in the camera took me out 🤣🤣
This record will never cease to keep impressing me
Niftski has a complete sleeper build
