    I did my compulsory military service as a dentist at Walvis Bay in 1982 ... 40 years ago. This video shows the massive growth of the town from a small to a beautiful vibrant large town. When my wife and I arrived at Walvis Bay in 1982, the locals told us that you only cry twice there ... when you arrive and when you have to leave. The 18 months we stayed there our experience of the locals and for that matter the Namibian people were that they are the most sincere and hospitable people we met, comparing to all the places we stayed before, nationally and internationally. It is a wish of ours to visit Walvis Bay again in the near future.

      It was as described in the eighties, a lot has changed from that time period, crime is one big factor

      @A Slice of Happiness well you can move, but like anywhere else crime is ongoing and its basically property being targeted daily

    Hello sir
    How is life in Namibia for young people or singles? Are there social happenings to meet people?

    My Home Town, left many years ago. Take note, homes with low walls no electrics fences and no CTV, well for the most part of the video I could see. Miss my home town, the people in Namibia (Suidwes), we are a different bread of people, we still care!!

    The Zimbabwean brother showing off Namibia, it explains why he did not go where the people live. He does not know, not a Namibian, is just a visitor. If he was a Namibian, he would have known where the heart of Walvisbay is. These are rich neighborhoods, not a true reflection of Walvisbay.

    This is the first time I have seen a video of Walvis Bay. I worked for Transnet and would have been promoted to Walvis Bay but, for various reasons this did not materialise. I've always wondered what the place looked like. It seems very clean with tarred roads. I was told that, in 1989, the dirt roads were covered in salt. What do people do for fun there? What type of industry is there?. I have never been to Namibia and would love to see your beautiful country. Thank you for a great video.

      A lot of industries but fishing 🎣 and fish processing tops it all since this is a harbor ⚓ town. It is in the area where we've a Peugeot car 🚙 plant. In the desert close to town a lot of mining ⚒ activities are taking place. Tourism industry is booming. Table salt production is also happening in addition to tourism and oyster farming. It is a hype of activities like in any industrial 🏭 town. You will love it.

      These look like mansions for richer people. What does Walvis Bsy look like where middle class people live,what do older homes look like?

      The story of Walvis Bay is the same as all over Africa 🌍. Inequality distribution of wealth is also present in Walvis Bay but luckily, there're no slums in this town and any resemblance of a slum is perhaps a shack mounted to a house 🏡 in a yard. Such is only found in Kuisebmund but overall what is displayed here is the true face of Walvis Bay.

    • @ingridhoneycutt426
      @ingridhoneycutt426 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, no, that’s not the true face of Walvisbay, the people who live in those houses are less than 1% of the face of Walvisbay. Namibia is a mini South Africa where the rich and beautiful areas are occupied by majority whites, minority black politicians and rich Namibians. Namibians need to stop that Wode Maya lie about their country. Namibia has a almost 60% unemployment, of which youth are 38% unemployed, The face of Walvisbay is that Majority that lives in poor neighborhoods.

    Why does it look so deserted?

    • @hustleking2732
      @hustleking2732 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The population of namibia is very low, around 2 million people, compare that to south africas 🇿🇦 60 million. Although namibia may look big on the map, more than 80% of the country is unsuitable to live in (70-sumthing percent of the country is a desert) leaving only 30 of the land suitable to live in. In SA, limpopo province has more people than the entire country of namibia.it has deserts but It's not deserted, it always had a small population ever since.

      @@hustleking2732but his same town is built in the desert , what do you mean it’s unlivable,,, erongo is a province in the desert & it’s a second largest population in the country,
      Namibia’s population density has nothing to do with the desert ,, the population is just low that’s it
