I have seen this idea before and I think they are pretty good, the only thing I would prefer is a bit bigger so you had a proper bathroom but still nice.

I would have got rid of the front off 2 van bodies and joined rear sections together to make a bigger more squared off camper section. Still pretty cool though

The look is certainly unique and great but for me personally that's a waste of two vehicles. Useful loading space on the pickup is gone, and in the trailer he gained one single bed extra space which is not much and kids will grow it out real quick. If they like it, good for them, it's not for my taste.

You still have less space available than you would in a LWB T4 with an elevating roof. I think this is form over function in a very rigid way. I hope the children will enjoy it, it’s certainly a brave attempt, well done for going through with it. I suppose, it is s talking point and a bit of an attraction at VW camping fests.
True, but they are alot more expensive for not alot more. If they include a proper bathroom, fair enough. Lack of headroom isn't as much of an issue for me as lack of floor space to place things and nowhere to use the toilet or shower. Tbh id rather have just a microwave and fridge along with a bathroom over a kitchen. You can cook enough food for a trip to bring along and shower as long as you top up the water daily.
The black pick up part has serious Transformers Ironhide lookalike potential.
I was thinking more A-Team, but as I spotted the Transformers logo before the transformation you're probably right.

The answer is at the start. They bought the 2nd van to use the engine from it to replace the one in their original van then just didn't want to waste the 2nd van. Upcycling at its best.

It only give slight more space the a camper can conversion, but you have to also drag the weight of half a van on the back.
Be better off just converting a long wheel base van or buying an actual caravan that you can at least stand up in.
Also the fifth wheel van has lost a load of space dedicated to towing that single trailer

As long as familiar with lighting regs + construction & use regs, it would be straight forward to an engineer. I still wouldn't have spent all that time & money on it, however unique.
