I was raped as a kid by a family member and when I told my mom told them I lied and the police left and never came back never investigated further even after I went back 3 times singing the same song... at age 13 and to this day my rapist walks free and no justice for me

When I was 4. I was raped by my neighbor. He lived there for another 13 years. I had to see him everyday. I had to get cat called by him. I had to listen to him bragging about it. Nother ever happened to him.

if there is one thing I learned from watching the mini series Unbelievable, it's that often times, cops will treat victims as criminals to be interrogated.

I love Steve but he really needs to be more understanding that not all police are like him. There's a lot of crooked cops who don't take sexual assault seriously, and a lot of rape kits don't even get tested.

That’s what they are supposed to do but doing it is another story. Has to be bc the story stinks but i am surprised the police didn’t even call in Dcfs to investigate. It's for TV purposes. Steve Wilkos and the production company got major heat from the Networks for what the guests say on the show. Look at the old videos from 2007-2012 and it's way different from what's being produced now. It's for TV reasons.

I’m all for supporting the police, but for Steve to victim shame at 3:35, pretty much saying the guy didn’t do enough as a father by requesting a rape kit. The guy was probably in shock, didn’t know how to handle the situation, and cops are supposed to know how to handle it. Just because you were once a cop, doesn’t mean all of them share the same ethics you may have had. Stop victim shaming, Steve, and realize that maybe the cops involved weren’t really worried about the situation like they should have been!!

I don't know about that, Steve. Especially if they're from a small town. Corruption is rampant in small areas. We recently had to replace an entire mayoral staff, the mayor, police force, along with the police chief and all of the judges in a neighboring county in my state. The sheriff would've too but he was murdered in a bad drug deal directly in front of the court house right before the "ousting." There was also complaints stating that there was child abuse/neglect on one individual but where his father was someone in the corrupt judges and judge's staff office, no charges were filed even though many complaints were made and many people tried to get help. Thanks for all u do, Steve!

Only Steve episode that rubbed me the wrong way… the only ones that failed those girls was the police, not the parents… us regular people can feel powerless when those sworn to protect us cross their arms and don’t do their damn job… same thing happened in my family; my granddaughter was molested at 2 1/2 by a relative, and after an intense investigation by DCF, and clinicians, the DA refused to charge the monster because in MA, children under 3 cannot testify in court… my baby got no justice! 😡

Steve thinks it’s uncommon when really it’s super common. In the state where I live my mother reported something that happened to me. She took all the right steps she took me to the hospital. But the cops/detectives never read the hospital report. The person that abused me failed a lie detector test & they never arrested him. They just let the case go, my mom called for months & the detectives never did anything. To this day ( almost 11 years later) my abuser is still walking free.
I'm so sorry this happened to you, You can always sue him in civil court. At least you'll get him where bit hurts. That if he has anything.

A lot of them are good people who are just burnt out and tired, and may not do as much as they're supposed to do in some situations. The day I found out my daughter was getting abused by her grandfather was the day I reported it . He got 3yrs in jail but served less . I wish I had dealt with him myself ,I wld have definitely got a longer sentence .
