    To be fair to Mel with Tomlinson, there were some that had Deuce McCallister ahead of him at certain points in the draft process. The worry with LT was that he didn't have to catch the ball at TCU. Also, Kiper wasn't the only one low on Jared Allen. To be fair, whether a guy becomes a star or a bust is largely dependent on who drafts the player, coaching, etc. Guys like Gronk & Welker are who they are bc they played for the Pats. They're not having the same type of success if they were picked up by the Jags or Jets.

    Nobody is a draft genius. If there was that team would have won almost every super bowl in history. Kiper is an entertainer, y'all have been entertained for 25+ years. He is almost soley responsible for making the nfl draft fun. there wouldn't be all this yearly draft analysis if it wasn't for Mel blasting the Colts for not drafting Dilfer.

    It's literally impossible to predict what a player will do in the NFL before the draft. You can analyse a players talent and personality, but production doesn't translate. You can't predict injuries and what team drafts a player will dramatically change their career. All that said, Mel Kiper is an entertainer, just like everyone on any sports show. They use their knowledge to "analyse" sports, but they are just there to entertain people and the more confident and/or controversial the take, the more views they get.

    My favorite Mel Kiper Moment was when he predicted that both Steve Emtman and Quentin Coryatt would be long term players for the Colts in 1992. They went 1st and 2nd. Emtman never starred because of injuries (something that many scouts thought was likely due to how Emtman played and his inability to lift his legs high - causing multiple knee injuries) and Coryatt was an outright bust. Kiper should have been fired immediately after

    • @redmangc
      @redmangc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My favorite was in 1994 when Mel told the Colts they shouldnt Draft Marshall Faulk and they should have drafted a QB because they had no long term solution there and people doged on him because the colts made the AFC championship... only to proceed to have the 1st overall pick 2 years later because their QB play was absolute garbage. Dude isnt always right on players (but lets face it absolutely no GM is), but about evaluating a team and their long term needs hes got a good eye.

    • @cheswick617
      @cheswick617 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Emtman's injuries were due to his heavy Steroid usage in college. Emtman didn't life his knees high, not because he couldn't, but because he was taught to stay low and out leverage his opponents which he did. when healthy he was unstoppable. But he was always injured in one way or another, which is typical of heavy roid abusers.

    I'm not kidding when I say I look at probably a couple hundred mock drafts every off season before the draft and I actually seek out Kipers sometimes to compare to others and when I see a guy way up or down on his board compared to others I disregard it. I basically just see who's mock is the most different to his and usually it works out pretty well. Strategy has won me some pocket money 4 years in a row.
